Hi
Just thought i would finally give that rogeys mod a go and started playing last night.
I did my usual thing, get the Argon express for the MI Tong mission and piss off and trade with it till i can buy a Mako.
While trading i ended up getting stuck up around Atreus Clouds with a full load of Stott Spices and the gate to The Wall is gone?? most inconvinient! so i have to go all the way round to Presidents End before i can offload the stuff bloody hell!! i won't be trading any Boron stuff again with that gate gone!!! GRRRRR
Anyone know if all the missing gates are just hidden or something? I don't remember seeing missing gates mentioned in the mod description? I don't think i would have bothered installing it had i known. Are there new gates elsewhare to make up for it??
Anyway, it seems to be taking a hell of a long time to get any amount of money saved - even after selling my disco, and after 5 hours trading i can barely afford to buy just 1 Beta Hept!! I don't remember it taking this long to trade up some cash before - although admittedly i havn't been getting any useful BBS missions, so i think that is the main thing holding me back?

What intriguing weapons and shields will you use to protect your trade ships and sectors from the Khaak when your not home? unless you can afford capital ships *and luck* its all for nothing, NOTHING! Mwaahhhhahaha

Looks like the X2 modding forum is a bit quiet?
If anyone happens along who has played the rogeys mod, i would love to know how it plays compared to vanilla?
What are some of the more significant things you will need to do differently compared to vanilla?
How will the normal sector patrolls hold up?
any other interesting advice as well?

Roguey's Mod is AWESOME, I wouldn't play without it. It does change where some of the gates are (all the supergates are gone now too) but once you've got jumpdrives that doesn't make much difference really.
This mod makes the game both a lot harder and a lot more interesting IMHO - best bits off the top of my head are:
- there's now some point to trading everything (not just silicon!) as all the price modifier %ages have changed so just about anything can make you money if you trade wisely.
- The Pirates now have a point to them - the new Pirate Renegade can take out an M6 OOS. And yes, they can be capped
- Capital Ships now absolutely OWN like you'd expect them to; no more Luke Skywalker-style heroics taking out a destroyer in an M3 - if you want to play with the big boys you need a destroyer fleet of your own. A Gamma Photon Beam Cannon will total a corvette in maybe 2 seconds flat, from 7km away.
- The Xenon will eat you alive, and not just in the sectors where you're used to worrying about them.
- A lot more variation between different race's ships than before (read ship specs carefully before you purchase, some have changed quite a lot.)
re sector patrols - depends what you call "normal". I'm running patrol groups of 3 M6's in each of my developed sectors with destroyers on patrol paths around my two main HQ sectors and suffering "acceptable losses" of around 1 M6 a real-time hour. Lost a Titan OOS in Interworlds a few days ago when a Xenon K came to visit tho....(ouch!).
You can probably tell I love this mod
It does make the game a bit more heavy going to start but I think gives it a lot more longevity - I do run other scripts alongside Rogueys but in my current game I've got over 500 stations and well over 1000 ships and I'm not bored yet, and it hasn't got too easy either.

Thanks for that reply.
I have been playing the mod allot this past weekend and yes it is difficult to get started! But it seems to be a great mod so far.
Well when i finally got my first combat ship - the Nova, i went off and did allot of dying until i realised i have to give up attacking pirates totally, and could only kill Khaak, thank god for the Khaak!!!
First up i managed to cap a Khaak M3 with 3 kyons and 2 shields, then sold the Kyons for an obscene amount of money (after discovering the Khaak M3 dies even quicker than the Nova) and started building my empire.
I was able to start defeating pirates with an Ion plus Beta HEPT combination in the front of my Nova but still, not quite enough weapon energy to defeat those pirate renegade ships very reliably without dying - "attention, energy low"... oh, theres the view of my exploding ship from behind!! lol
Managed to cap a pirate crusader and once i had that as my personal ship, i have no problems killing those pirate renegades now. But with only 500 credit reward, and being forced to hit them so hard and fast with no time for capping, i have realised it is simply no point to attacking them, so, sadly, i just ignore them unless their right nearby, dissapointing.

I got the renegade and the crusader mixed up in my last post. It is the crusader which is the standard 'pirate' ship that has the deadly rear turret, wheras the renegade has very weak rear turrets. This means i can take my time to capture a renegade but the crusaders are useless, i have to kill them quick or die, so theres no point to them at all, the best i can hope for is a 500 credit reward pfffftt so what! Whenever i see them, i have to ask myself, "now why would i bother going after it?" the answer is.... "no reason at all".PeteM wrote:The renegades aren't really there for you to attack them, it's more the other way round.... they don't generally come after you personally but they do love an undefended station
The pirate sectors seem to have very agressive pirates, it is just as dangerous to enter some pirate sectors as if they were Xenon sectors!!
It is very difficult to tackle more than one pirate at a time as well, since one brief strafe from another enemy will wipe out half your shields!! It is not like you can get hit a little and evade, no, you get hit a little and die!
I have repeated my battles over and over and there is no way i can stay alive against a squad of more than 3 pirates that can mount BHEPT's because of the speed at which my shields are reduced from the briefest second of getting hit.
So i guess my question is, how the hell can you dogfight multiple BHEP mounting pirates in rogeys mod? is it even possible? (without using an M6 or higher).
I can do it if i use a gate for cover, but out in open space.... HOW?
I can easily defeat a squad of 2 BHEP mounting pirates, by hitting the first one hard and fast for a quick kill, but more than two..... HOW?

Oh i forgot to mention that i found an Argon Centau pirate in Brenans Triumph. I assume this is a special thing that is supposed to be there?
I killed it without registering any race drop.
I was thinking of trying to cap it but other asseholes rush over pretty quick so theres no time for capping, besides there would be little possibility of keeping it alive anyway.

Ummm, you haven't been to a Roguey Xenon sector yet have you?The pirate sectors seem to have very agressive pirates, it is just as dangerous to enter some pirate sectors as if they were Xenon sectors!!

It's probably possible if you're a better pilot than I am but can't say I ever managed it either. Roguey's is definitely a "bigger ships are better" mod - I went for the M6 as soon as I could get one.So i guess my question is, how the hell can you dogfight multiple BHEP mounting pirates in rogeys mod? is it even possible? I've never seen a pirate in a Centaur in my game, are you running anything else it could have come from? If not I'll have to go hunting (in a destroyer!) for him.

I'm running only Rogeys mod. and the Centau wasn't too difficult to kill in my pirate renegade..... i was suprised that i was able to do it! but when i reloaded and wanted to cap it, that is when other pirates came over and i was dead meat as soon as that happened!
So it is definately not cappable ..... i would need to get an M6 to clear out all the other aggressive pirates first. But then of corse if i have an M6 already then i don't need to cap it!! catch 22. so i will stick with my dead centau reload.
I have been practicing allot to defeat multiple BHEP mounting pirate groups. Now the main difficulty usually occurs when i try to make the second kill.... at that point, another pirate will take me out, and there seems to be no way around this problem. But what i discovered last night was the docking computer trick.....
I usually use the docking computer trick for large Khaak clusters.... i go and kill several Khaak M5's and then dock, recharge, kill some more M5's and dock again. This works because i am already used to killing Khaak m5's without targeting them (so i can target the station for docking). It is no use targeting khaak M5's because the targeting system is totally inadequate for keeping up with Khaak M5 attack patterns.
So i can now go and nail a pirate ship and then dock before his mates can take me out.... priceless!

My game progress so far.....
I have about 8 wheat farms, 4 rimes factories, 1 power plant, 1 crystal fab and about 4 silicon mines.
I am planning to make Home of light and Argon Prime my power hubs with multiple crystal fabs fed by Ore Belt. These fabs will then feed multiple power plants in Argon prime which will feed all surrounding sectors.
I will be forfilling the resource requirements (especially secondary goods) in all Argon sectors. That should take some doing, and i probably won't need to expand beyond that.
Since the gate between Atreus clouds and The Hole is gone, i won't be doing my usual Telardainium strategy - dissapointing!

Heres the link...jlehtone wrote:Could you add link to the mod? Search from the "plugins index" comes up with two mods by Roguey.

I don't know how to make it orrange, so people will have to copy and paste to their web browser.
Edit: oh it became orange by itself! that was easy!! lol
Anyone who wants to download the mod will need to join the rogeys forum. This fact is not explained in the site, i had to figure it out myself!!
Also the readme for installing the mod told me to install it to the 'Mods' folder in my game directory. There was no such folder in my games directory!! so once again i had to figure it out for myself that i can simply create the folder 'mods' and it works!!

So anyhow, i still have two main things i hope to find out?
1) When and how can i expect to see khaak capital ships?
2) What is the story with that enemy centau (which had a paranid piolate)?
Also i am interested in any other general comments about what people think of the rogeys mod?

After a veryyyyy long lay-off from X2 % X3 I'm back on the space wagon, i have downloaded Rogueys mod ver2.0 and proceeded to play, the first major mission where you are given the transport to get Mi-Ton at Atreaus Clouds(sp?) well the route given by Kho requires me to go from the HOLE to Atreus, but I cannot fine that gate , as the Hole now only has three gates..Is this an intentional modification?? so I have to re-route my travels by going through Presidents End and beyond??
Thanks to anyone that replies

Ah welcome to the game!
Well i traded quite a bit and collected the hidden crates inside stations with that Argon express before completing that mission. I skipped over bying the Mako which i would have done in vanilla game and went for a Nova. Got the Nova and only then completed the mission.
The gate between the Hole and Atreus clouds is gone. This is in my opinion an absolute disasterous thing to have done for the mod. I don't see how it improves the game at all??? It just serves to be a pain in the ass and nothing more. I seriously considered bailing on this mod just because of that thing alone. Even after playing and enjoying this mod for several weeks now, even after all that, this missing gate still pushes me hard to drop this mod.
To complete the Mi Tong mission, i chose to go via Presidents End and return Via Kingdoms End.
The pirates were not able to get me during the ambush, and just when i thought i had wone, one of the pricks rammed me and that initiated the M6 cutscene!

I would like to know if anyone can tell me what sort of ship configuration is needed for reliable sector patrolls in Rogeys mod?
I am having some trouble with Ore Belt at the moment, My Teladi osprey keeps getting creamed by pirates!
At first i gave my Osprey a Nemisis wingman like i have in Home of Light. The Osprey gets killed anyway! so i reloaded and put two fully equipped Pirate Renegades plus the nemisis on the Ospreys wing. It still gets killed!!
Now i have two nemisis wingmen on the Osprey and the jury is still out on wether that will work, but i suspect not..... why? I have been watching those nemisis wingmen from the universe map and i do not like what i see..... They are falling behind a little bit during the patroll cycle. This is leaving the Osprey vunerable for the first few seconds of OOS combat - more than enough time for it to get killed when it comes to pirates!!
Now the whole point of using nemisis wingmen is because they have about 50 points more speed than the osprey, which should prevent them falling behind, so i dunno what the hell is going on?? I might have to switch to Dragons for wingmen?

Sounds like your game is cracking along at a good pace then!
For sector patrols I use 3 Centaurs per sector, one set to Attack All Enemies and the other two set to Protect that one. It works reasonably well but I still lose one or two if I get a whole squadron of Pirates on the rampage at once.
I think the biggest issue is that the Pirate Renegades are usually packing Hornet missiles, which are ridiculously powerful in OOS combat (I seem to remember reading its all just worked out mathematically as weapon score vs shield score or something).
One solution is to give your patrols Hornets as well but that gets expensive when you have 30+ systems patrolled and it's a PITA to keep them all resupplied.
Now I use Titans to guard my most vital sectors and keep a "floating" destroyer that I can jump into any particularly hot zones on demand, which works well as long as you're keeping an eye on your empire. I've given up leaving it on SETA for more than a few minutes while I put the kettle on as it invariably ends in carnage!

Thanks for that, so what makes the Centau good compared to other M6?
Anyway, my Osprey in Ore belt seems to be doing well now that it has the two Nemisis wingmen. Also the Nemisis only needs 1 Gamma HEPT which makes it very enticing.... since there are only 2 Gamma HEPT Fabs in the entire universe!
On a seperate issue - it is really weird how OOS is no good when pirates attack a station?? If a large Khaak cluster is attacking a station, it is definately better to stay OOS or the station can be destroyed, but with pirates, the opposite is true! I just think this is weird?
I had a wing of pirates attack one of my power plants, so i tried to take them out OOS using other ships as i would if they were Khaak. The power plant got destroyed before my ships even got close! So in desperation i reloaded and jumped in there myself expecting the station to go down quick as ever - but no! Then as i got close, i can see the pirates floating around spending most of their time manouvering rather than attacking the station - so this is the reason in sector is much better than OOS!!

Today is my last day of work before i go off on my honymoon trip! So i won't be around to continue this thread. But you guys are more than welcome to continue this Rogeys Mod discussion without me!
So this comming weekend will be my last weekend in my old rental unit and then on Monday i will be busy cleaning our new unit which we own! Then comes the packing all my junk process and then comes the moving in process AAAGGGHHHH. Not much time for X2 will come.... well not unless i want to see the blood curdling, hair raising death stare from my future wife!!! lol
Then will come the wedding on Saturday which i will horribly despise!! - not the getting married part, but the wedding process itself! Oh well, grin and bear is all i can do, grin and bear.
then on Wednesday we will be getting on a plane and heading up to some tropical resort in Northern Queensland Australia (i live in Sydney Australia) and, well, somehow i don't forsee me despising that process very much at all
