Hello, This is pretty much the first time I've posted on this forum. If you guys ever pop up in the "X-Universe" one, you'll probably see that it's recently been peppered with my posts.
This post is to introduce myself firstly. I'm an X3 player, never played any of the X Universe games before X3. Once I began playing X3 I was hooked.
Obviously from playing the game you get limited background information on each race and their histories. A lot of it you are assumed to already know, and the plot plays out in a very 'en medias res' fashion. Well, franklly I feel I'm missing out, but this doesn't bother me in the least. I always love being confronted with a new fictional universe and figuring out how everything works in it.
That being said, I need some resources. The main thing I'd like to know is more about each individual race. Like the political system in each race, or general philisophical ideas. I'd also like to learn more about the Yaki, and the Goners in particular. I guess the main question is, is there some sort of 'sourcebook' I can go to to get an overview of each faction, the history of the universe, and then be able to delve deeper into each faction at my leisure?
I would like to start posting some creative writing based in the X Universe, but I don't want to seriously flub timelines, or screw up race's behaviors. Things like that can ruin an otherwise good story to me.

First off, Argonopedia is a great place to look for the backstory. It's got a general timeline that's fairly accurate- nothing from X3 (hasn't been updated since X2) but everything pre-X3 still holds true, obviously.
Also, look for SilentWitness's "Terran Report" or something to that effect. It's a good insight into each of the races and factions- it's fan created, but I'd call it all pretty close to canon.
And of course, just give everything that's been written a good perusal. Everyone has a unique take on the X-universe, and most of the writing is quite well done. I'd recommend The Zig's "Terraformer Dreams" (which is finished) and SOTS's "Siege" (which is not *nudge nudge*) for a couple of good starts.

wikipedia, believe it or not, has a good selection that tells a good deal about the races
you can find these by simply typing in "argon federation" "split dynasty" "boron Kingdom" etc etc
i cant give youa full race breif now cus i gtg to school but once i get back ill tell u what i know.

I second Wikipedia.
This page gives a very solid overview of all the races and factions. I can vouch for most of the info on it, as I've done a fair bit of editing on it, and the person who merged it together knows his stuff.
The actual race pages are slightly obsolete now, in so far as that they've been merged into the one above, and are really just fragments sitting there awaiting the inevitable deletion nomination (wikipedia editors really don't like pages devoted to talking about the fictional settings!)
I'm not sure if anyone is still maintaining the old pages. They might be worth a look if you want more info than the main page, though I can't vouch for their quality. A lot of not-really-canon fan-ficcy stuff seems to find its way into these kinds of page. And they don't touch on factions like the Goner or Yaki at all.
Aside from wiki, the best page for all round info, and especially detail, is Argonopedia - though it is still stuck in the X2 era.
