UPD: Warp tunnel simulator RC2

Post by TheBypasser »

This is NOT that old warp tunnel prog, this one was coded from scratch (lol I lost all my older source codes :P) and is a highly improved remake of that idea with way better lighting, overall look and interactivity. The only thing I managed to get from the old sim is the wall texture.

For those who miss the warp tunnel in X3 :) This is a small 64k program rendering an infinite warp tunnel, with some interactivity involved (holding the spacebar acts as an afterburner). It's pretty hardware-friendly - only needs DX7 to work.
In order for it to work it should be placed on any writeable drive as it needs to dump a small texture on it. Use the small button to the right of the main window for some info. Btw the tunnel shape is generated randomly each time you launch the program. All the feedback and especially a bug report if you find any is highly appreceated.

[upd]New update
* CRITICAL: startup crash issue solved
* shake effect is made smoother, added ramping to avoid "snapping"
* added slight mouselook capability

Trippy :D

Well, seems really nice to fit in 64k only ;)...only thing is I don't see the randomly generated shape...always seems the same to me :|, maybe something a little more "circular" would fit better the X tunnel type :)

The afterburner thing is cool :D, as the ending effect, nice job!

ty!
Actually 64k is kinda too big for it, but lol, I kinda suck at programming on other languages so this was all written on Visual Basic :lol: As for the bump - it's random, but too hard to notice as it's a smooth noisemap generator, so has no noticable parts (the tunnel mesh is generated only on startup so there are no modifications later on during the run). As for the non-circular shape - lol I just like how it blows you away each time you watch it long enough, especially if you give it a long afterburner run first and then release it to feel it coming back to normal speed :)

When I try to run this I get the following error:

"Run-time error '429':

I am trying to run this on Vista, and have tried running it both normally and with elevated privlages.
