Ummmmmm
Lisa
Is this a log output or a directory listing?
I must admit I don't really know what it is, looks like a log listing of an update, the dir litings at the start look consistant with that.
Is this whats eating you hard drive all the time. Sorry Lisa I think you gotta give us a bit more background.
I dont know what to make of this I must admit..

That's some kinda patch from MS.
I'm running XP Pro w/sp1 and I don't have anything that looks like that.
Restore points are stored at -- c:\system volume information, and I haven't been able to access these files.
edit: You should go to the MS update site, search that file number and see what it says it is. Just a thought

Lisa Hi, I never thought you were Mental.....Torch wrote:This is sitting in my control panal, under the heading Windows xp hotfix (SP) with a series of number Q327979. So, I searched for the Q327979, and that is what is in the notepad in the folder.
See, and you guys thought I was mental. Heheheeee
Lisa

The Q327979 is a patch reference, you should be able to look this up on MS's website. if you want to know more about the patch.
I don't have that particular patch in my control panel but Microsoft list this patch on the SP 1 release data..

So I wouldn't delete it.
Back to the original question, Whats wrong?
Sorry if I seem thick, I cant see anything abnormal atm.

Right, I've just done something similar (update Q329048 in my case) and found a similar file. The file in question is a text file which is 4K in size and is just a log file describing what happened while the update was being applied--you could quite happily delete it, but if you're so desperately short of disk space that 4K matters then you have much more serious problems than a few updates! As for the update itself it will most likely have replaced a few system files with newer versions--it's most unlikely that an update like this will have actually added a new program which wasn't there already (the only update I can think of which would do this is the .NET Framework installer, which is one of the optional updates).
