PDF file conversion to text on topic success!

Post by Gandalf The White »

Hi all,

I have recently stumbled across someware that will convert PDF files to text files. Which means thatt it may well aleviate some of the problems I have encoountered in the passed. It may even save people work on hear when I ask them for their PDF files to be converted. I haven't actually tested this myself but I am told that it is effective.

The email address is pdf2txt@sun.trace.wisc.edu

I believe that you send the file as an atachment and it sends back the converted version. I haven't tested it yet, but I am on the look out for a PDF file to test it with.

Oh, can we put this address on the new website?

the catch is thats your work you send to them..
they keep a copy of your work for their own priverate
use and then they will proberly sell it off to some one for money with is why they do it for free.... :) You dont get something for Nothing!

Hi Avis,

It's sort of screen reader friendly, with a patch or 2. But the PDA I have the software doesn't support PDF formats. So that's how I found out. I belong to a discussion list there and as a result, this was posted and I found it.

I think the PDF manual on the XT/X Gold disc will be just a bit too large to send someone via email.
The new PC I just built for myself:
i5-13600k, 32GB DDR5 RAM, RTX 3060 12GB
It'll do until I can upgrade the graphics card.

Yup! It works. Sent the Xgold manual to it. All 1. what ever MB of it in PDF and it converted the file into text. I don't know if there any spelling mistakes, because obviously the speach wouldn't pick all that up. But, it just sends you an email with the translation in it. So don't expect any formatting, you will just get the text. Which would be all I want. My suggestion is to send a small PDF file to the translation thing just to see what you think and to see how acurate it is. But yes can this go onto the new website? Would be useful and it means that the PDF files already in existance wouldn't need to be altered in any way. Although, I don't know if there is a size limit. I might try and find out more about that from the source that posted it origionally.
