LV has a script that will allow you to do almost anything you want to do in X3. It's in the script forum.

Why do you cheat? There are several ways to make money fast, and WITHOUT cheating... If you think it's boring to make money, then why do you play this game...?

a space shooter with the strategic element of buying and desiging your own custom fleet? i downloaded a script called deathmatch arena redux, and that gives me about 40 million after winning an arena fight, and i just use that to buy fleets, i just wish it was quicker to get weapons up and ready the ships, i suppose ill have to find a mod for that ;)

Not everybody likes the "THINK" aspect of the game.

If the OP wants to see that comment in an un-complimentary way then it would be wise to consider one fact:

If its boring to make money i.e. there is not enough sence of achievement when they invest there herd earned- then how boring do you think ist going to be not to have to work for it?

Its only cheating per say when they realise that they have just shortened the games value to themselves.

The OP may be interested to know that a lot of people here have house rules to make the game longer and/or harder.

Its up to you how you play at the end of the day

Obviously not a Teladi!
:teladi: say "You make no sense - you tired of making profitsss!"

How about UT's or self sustaining loops, with CAG's selling excess wares?

i think the op's point is that making money doesn't really do it for him; he wants to build and manage a larger empire without the long tedious hours of micro-managing required for UT's and such.

good point to make though; would be: building in X3 requires long tedious hours of micro-managing too..

its an unfortunate cycle :D

There's a big difference between making money, and using money to do the things you actually want to do in the game.

ANY aspect of ANY game will be boring if the player isn't interested in it. The same can be said of video game morality, and the people who get their panties in a bunch if anyone even remotely suggests "cheating". Boring and tedious.

why not cheat? its a single player game, this persons actions do not affect yours.
sure its rewarding to see your first m2 flying out of the shipyard after you've spent all your hard earned cash on it, but maybe this player doesn't want that, maybe they just want to have a huge fleet and participate in huge battles against the Xenon or something like that.
End of the day, its up to the player.

i with you there kari, defeats the purpose.

i have jsut bought the game again, got it in 2005, gave it up due to the bugs.
now the game runs well (apart froma 8800 GTX bug) i have ben plaihg for a while ( few weeks adn still stuck on 5000 K, keen to get my new transprt adn earn the bucks, and when i do i will be done with perseverance and without cheating.

cheating reduces the longlivity of the game and defeats any form of acheveiment

whilst preserving fun and enjoyment, and hence lengevity of a game ;).
If it were a multiplayer game I'd be hacked off that somebody was cheating.
But I can see how cheating apeals to some.
A while ago I used to play spellforce 1&2, once I'd finished there was nothing left to do, any normal person would have uninstalled the game and gone onto bigger and better things, but by cheating and restarting with my character's having everything(even more than was possible) I'm still, to this day, playing it.

Cheating removes the hardship of capping ships, fully outfitting them, trading etc etc, a player may just want to start off with a small band of pirate ships, yet there is no option to do that in game, so cheating is the only method to start from scratch with that.

I would also like to point out that I've played through the plot a few times and done several Dead is Dead games, and I haven't cheated on any of them, BUT! Cheats are a godsend when it comes to testing scripts.

I think, the main aspect of X3 is it needs a lot of time.

If I want to shoot, I load Crysis,

If I want a big fleet, I load SW: Empire at War.

If I want to get good reputations with races, and I want jobs like BBS, I will load Oblivion.

If I want to trade, then I load Port Royale.

4 games. And these are in 1. X Series. These are in X-series. I have never played with a game what has only single player more than a month- but you can play with X more than a year. There aren't so much scripts for other single player games, but there are HUNDREDS of scripts and mods for X games.

This is because I don't cheat. Because if I use a cheat, and I get my capitol ship just half an hour, I won't protect it- it was cheap, it can lost.
But if I played months for my capitol ship, I will be very happy when I get it. And this will mean for me the world in X3. And the half year that took away from me.

And my gameplay: if I get damaged because of stupid autopilot, then I will repair it, I won't load back a save. If I run into 5 M4-s and M3-s(enemies), I won't save my game and try for 20 times, if I can win. I will avoid them. If I build a station to a bad place, or one of my ships has been killed, I won't use the Shift+l combination: I will know that I mustn't go/build to there next time. This is, why I play X3.

Just a theory

I don't doubt that for one second, and as I said, I play dead is dead, meaning that even the slightest screw-up could result in all my saves being deleted and having to go back to square one.
However there is no need to question the OP's wish to cheat as it has no impact on you whatsoever.

I'm sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick here.
This post you made, whilst questioning a players reason for playing this game, came across as rather rude in my opinion.
everybody has a right to play whatever(single player) game they wish, however they wish, without having to answer to anybody.

I don't think, it is rude, it is just a simple question: I don't understand, why he plays X3, if he thinks making money without cheating is boring. Yes, yes, it is very slow, but this means X games. Slow conception. If he bores this, that he won't like the game...

Then I appologise, your post seemed rude, but maybe I was mistaken.

Maybe the OP doesn't have all these games, or maybe they want 3 out of the 4 games that X3 provides. in fact there's often that I only want one, or maybe 2 of the things that X series provides, so that's how I'll play.

@leebee: please don't be put off by mine and Kari91's little discussion, this has been an ongoing debate for not only the X series but games in general.
I fully understand why you may want to "cut the crap" and get down to buisness :).
To submit a pic, upload it to an image file hoster(photobucket etc) or personal webspace(often provided by alot of ISP's), then input:

Code: Select all

Followed by the URL of the image with '.th' IIRC without the quotation marks to make it a thumbnail, followed by:

Code: Select all

[/img]
and that should work :)
