the star icon represents that he's had over a certain number of posts that have been rated "good" or something loke that.....

yup as mentioned,

the star is a forum post rating thingy-me-bob,

basicaly, when you get a thread/post getting consistent good ratings you end up with a star,

rated occasionaly seems to be sideways thumb and consistantly rated badly gets a skull thing (which looks much cooler than the star )

basicaly avatars,, another name work slightly difernetly but essentially the same thing.

ie I've just rated your thread
thus you get a symbol thing (i think)
