Mis-spent Childhood!!

Post by Roobarb »

Ok people. Here's a pressing question for you lot who were children of the 80's. What was your favourite cartoon of the 80's? I have limited the selection to the decent action cartoons that fuelled my imagination whilst running round a playground in primary school getting in the way of 'The footballers!'.

I have not been exhaustive, just the main contenders. Have fun!

PS. I haven't included puppets, just animation. (Terrahawks and Starfleet)

As silent bob would say: " " :D

Well, I'd have to say the Transformers are the only one's I can remember. But I was still in my larval stage for the entirety of the 80's so I can't be expected to remember anything from those years! :D

I also remember a cartoon with robot cats (tigers and lions and stuff) which connected together in a disturbingly powerrangers-like way to form a giant robot warrior. Can't for the life of me remember the title, might have been thundercats though. dunno. it ruled tho!

Well, seeing as I grew up in the 60's, I guess all these are after my time. Though, I did watch The Transformers a few times. I think I saw Thundercats a couple of times, too. Wasn't impressed with it, though.

When I grew up, my favorite Cartoon was Speed Racer.

What a cool car. I still want one. ;)
The new PC I just built for myself:
i5-13600k, 32GB DDR5 RAM, RTX 3060 12GB
It'll do until I can upgrade the graphics card.

the one that all these cartoons got there momentum from (literaly)
'Robotech - Macross Saga' (long winded but possibly interesting reason for that statement but it is true, but I'll spare my fingers the ache)

I can hardly believe noone else voted for Dungeons and Dragons (narrowly beat Transformers, but those two were way ahead of the others, imo).

Robotech? is this the same one I remember?

Well, actually I don't remember it, but I do remember the title and it zings in my head from the fond half-memories I was too young to store properly. :(

I remember watching robotech, but I don't remember it!

IMHO though. Technoman was just about the best (and it was the first) manga show I ever watched, but that was in the 90's so it doesn't count!

Hmmm... I think I know about them, but I couldn't say if they were on german TV at that time. Later on into the 80's I developed a habit to zap right through cartoons when they were on. Perhaps I just missed them this way...

Yup Technoman aka Technoman Blade aka Blade aka ..... is cool as, yes but late 90s unfortunately :-P

Robotech, was manga, the transformer Jetfire was a direct unadulterated rip off of a veritech from robotech.

where all the shows listed above came about in mid late 80s robotech was early 80s and is also credited as being the 1st sci fi cartoon space opera to make it the the western audience and directly led the way for the air time that the earlier of the shows above managed to get (ie transformers and heman were gap fillers for robotech :-P, which is actually true)..
