what happens to the goner 1

During the perseus mission the goner one asks you to find an asteroid with 88 ore yeild. Once you find it and he follows you have to quickly go to the perseus. I would have thought that he would at least build a ore mine but today I saw the asteroid still floating in space and the goner 1 nowhere to be seen.

Well today I was flying round and just saw the asteroid, does he move sectors :?: This is about four - twelve hours after the perseus mission.
