Containers
Heres the text from a post I did in 2004 (which seems to have disappeared off the forum - it was post number 44923...
Finding Containers
Crystal Fabs normally have up to 4 - sometimes one in the blue at the top of the entrance near the branch for the two sides. Then on the right side, near the pipes under the floor grating - you have to go past it and then under the grating. Then as you get to the docking bays, under the central ramp on each side. (The one under the grating can be tricky if it contains M/L/XL as you have to use your M5 to nudge it slowly to the gap where you went under the grating, up out of the grating and then you can pick it up with a TS).
Most Technical factories in the little bay under the docking bays, there are sometimes 2 in this large square hole.
Bio-Gas & Bofu facts - as you go in, just point at the floor and you may just spot the little black dot just to the left of the green pipe way down on the floor where the fan blades go past - there are sometimes two here, then, still at the entrance, turn right and look just under the large gray pipe, in the corner, there are sometimes 2 here, and halfway along this pipe underneath, there is sometimes one.
Mines, just behind the central ring in the middle, about halfway to the docking bays, sometimes on the right, sometimes on the left.
Teladi trading station, in the outer ring - you have to go through one of the two tunnels out into the rotating square ring and there are often two lots probably 180 degrees apart, sometimes up to 4 in each section against the wall. These are on the wall nearest the Docking bays - you have to orient yourself before you go in and remember which way the docking bays are, then travel around using a little bit of up-elevator to keep the roof just above you (as you are going in a circle) and the goods will be on the left or right wall depending upon which way around you are going.
Cahoona bakeries & similar types, at the very top, just to the right of the pipe.
Shipyards, just behind the two green pillars just to the right of the entry, and at the end of the twisting docking tunnel on the left just before youturn hard right for the bays.
Solar Power Plants - go to the set of rings going all around the middle, and start flying through them. If you look at the ring itself, about halfway between the floor and the top attachment point, you will sometimes find one there - there are 16 rings to check though! and it could be any - also, you cannot often see it until you are flying right past it, so I just look to the side as I go past aand often you see a little black flash - stop and back up to have a good look.
Sectors.
I have restarted a couple of times, and Both times, I have found that the sectors around The Vault and Mines of Fortune are rich in pickings, as are the sectors around Ianamus Zura and Lucky Planets, and further, the sectors around Bluish Snout, and the Teladi sectors around Scale Plate Green.Pickings in these sectors are sometimes running to 400k or 500k per sector and most of the Teladi sectors net around 200-300k. Best ever was a haul of 600,000cr in one sector and 250,000cr in one Teladi trading station (there were two groups of containers, a group of 4 and at 180 degrees around to the other side of the rim were another 3).
You can hear Missiles as they Buzz!
I have found:-
Missiles (Mosquito, Wasp, Silkworm, Dragonfly and Hornet) - you get more in a crate of Mosquito and I have found up to around 35 in a crate, but only ever 1 Hornet.
Mass Driver Ammo - lots of it mostly around 12 to 15 at a time.
Space Flies - mostly in 10's until you get to Siezwell area then 15's and 20's, then when you get into Split space, around 25's and 30's - when you get to Mines of Fortune area and Bluish Snout area, you can expect to find 30's and the occasional 40 - my best was a 45!!! (which sold for 173,000cr)
Space weed - generally in 10's and up to 20's
Space Fuel - generally in 10's and up to 20's
Nividium - in 2, 4, 5, and an 8!!! - difficult to sell - only at Paranid Jewellery
Squash Mines - Note XL
Crystals
E-Cells - very common and mostly in around 150-ish
Nav Sats in 2's
Advanced Sats only in 1's
Salvage Insurance - in 2,3,4
I think that is about all I can remember
I have found the best track to take whilst searching for containers from a start is :-
Mission 1 to Ore Belt, Into CBSW, up to Kingdom End (Drop a Nav Sat here), East to Ceo's BuckZoid, Into Siezwell and then down to Company Pride. Into Thuruks Beard where you have to get Docking rights by killing 1 Pirate (By this time you should have around 300,000 and a couple of Mantas/Dolphins just finding containers alone). From here, up to Family Whi and then off to the Vault and Mines of Fortune.
By the time you have finished up in Bluish Snout and Menelaus Paradise, you will probably have around 2 or 3 Harriers, a couple of TS's with 2500 cargo and Jumpdrives, and probably around 3 million credits at probably 20 hours since the start.
Now you can go and buy some serious equipment to go & do Mission 2 where the Turbocharged Pirates await capture - however, at this stage, I spent a few hours practise in capturing some Bayamons and Orinocos in a Bayamon I captured in Thuruks Beard (using a couple of Wasps I FOUND in a container and some IRE fire as it was coming out of a JumpGate).
NOTE:-
You will need to get a Harrier asap as there are lots of items which contain more than the Discoverer's cargo bay and you just lose the rest - say you find 20 flies (with a volume of 5), if you pick them up in a Harrier with 104 Cargo space, you will get 20, but if you use your disco (which has shield and IRE's, then you will probably pick up only around 8 or 9 and the rest are just lost!!!
Further to that, I would have suggested 2 Mantas so you can pick up M/L/XL cargo - but patch 1.4 will probably make this not a good idea, so 2 TS's with Jumpdrive as soon as you can will be a good idea. That is why I put a NavSat in Kingdom End on my way up so I can buy a TS and send it straight for a Jump drive, then jump it to where you are (you can easily afford a jump drive by the time you are in Company Pride).
Containers are not easy to spot as they are coloured the same as the background from a distance - when you get up VERY CLOSE, then you can see them.

Back in my X2 playing days they were a very important source of early game credits - made the X-Treme start a lot more playable as there were usually enough in the Argon Prime stations to get the money for SETA and shields. Then the surrounding sectors would yield enough for guns at which point capture a couple of pirates and you're away...

heh, on my first two days of playing X2 I didn't even know you needed to buy sheilds, or that my ship didn't have them.WillWilk wrote:Back in my X2 playing days they were a very important source of early game credits - made the X-Treme start a lot more playable as there were usually enough in the Argon Prime stations to get the money for SETA and shields. In X2 you could find them in almost every station. Sometime difficult to spot, hidden behind pipes or in corners. Had several in the Goner Temple far away from the berths, deep down between the columns.
They also respawn after some time.
Some are too close to the wall to scoop them. You need to go EVA an push them (slowly !!!) off the wall or corner. Save before (!!!) you attempt that. If you hit the crate too fast (max 2m/s) in your spacesuit then..... 'THE END'
