Wonder what the X-Pilots think may be the size for the forthcoming(?) playable demo of X2 is?
I know it maybe a few months yet but it can't hurt theorizing.
Anyhow here are a few examples..( Let me know of any inaccuracies where possible. Cheers)
Orb - 260 mb
X-BTF - 36mb (playable?)
Hegemonia - 175 mb
Earth And - Beyond - 1077.91 MB
Though the last one is technically a full game (only if you buy to make full use of it after 5 days)
Anyone got any thoughts or know their limit on the downbload size..(unless we get it on a PC mag cover-disc soon after )

I am still pondering whether I should download a limited X2 version at all, or wait for the big bang (full game) and get everything the first time I see it.
I like the idea that you get the full game for X amount of time andd if you like it, you pay for an unlock key. Of coursse, I would buy the key the moment I got the disk!
i don't get it !
they are delaying the release date because they are so busy and now they are releasing the demo ?
what for?
the video tells that its a cool game the creenshots tell the same
and we all know its good
why bother to make the demo at all
i say bring me the full thing and as soon as possible
heck - i have good connection so i say make the full game downloadable and i pay for it and no need for useless manuals and shiny box
Marketing purposes.
Playable demo's get more use than rolling demo's.
From the video the game looks like a space-sim-shoot-'em-up, from a playable demo people will be able to see what the game is truly like.

Although broadband still isn't avaliable here, i do have access to it and if the Demo is released first i will get it no matter how big it is
As will I
Demos wil get released for marketing purposes(publisher-wise maybe) and to get a fan base. This i don't think will delay any completion date for the game.
So I shall be playing the demo to whet my appetite for the full gamne.

Indeed.
I'm all for a demo, any size, don't care (broadband ).
Just as long as the demo isn't causing any further delays in the final release date. I'd hate to think that every demo/trailer/screenshot/news was putting the release date back a month each time.

Ahh yes, same as the Jumpgate demo (offline).
This would work, good plan.

Maybe a couple of Khaak ships thrown in against you in your only discoverer No shipyard present also leaving you to either capture something or have some kamikaazi fun with the Khaak. .

How could that work? For example, the trading element would be pointless as you wouldn't get that many upgrades.
What about then, having it, so that with the demo you can only get to a certain point before it stopps and then you will have to buy the game?

It worked well with Jumpgate, gives you just enough of a taste to want to sign up and play online. Also a single sector means a small download.
Although, perhaps full access to the whole game for a limited time (eg. 10 hours then it cuts-out/resets, would give those not aquainted with the X-series a better idea.

Exactly - it's only a demo, remember? Limit trade and upgrade possibilities, but give a taste of how the game would work nonetheless.
