Yes totally agree. I believe some explination is required iff this is so. Mind you, if we get THQ again, we may as well go about on bikes putting flyers through people's doors, or it will end up on Ebay again with in 6 months like Xt has.SteveMill wrote:No, it would not surprise me either. But it wouldn't surprise me if it was so.

Haven't seen anything yet I'm afraid. Was this in an article? Or just some text to accompany the movie?SteveMill wrote:Quoted as late 03. Comments green ones? (hopefully of the rebuttal type.)
Scan it and send it you want.
Anyway, to answer the question. They didn't get it from me, so I guess they are just guessing. In fact, if I get the chance, i'll ring 'em in the morning.

The unwillingness of anyone to give a straight answer to the question has had my alarm bells ringing for awhile. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we see it Q1 or Q2. The trouble is that the endless delays will just mean Freelancer and even possibly elite 4, will fill that niche in the market. The Doctor wrote:Yes totally agree. As for XO. It will never see the light of day.

So you'd rather believe some nameless guy from a computer magazine than the actual developers, who have told us it's finished in March? Seems you're never happy--when you have no information you complain you're not being told anything, and when you DO have solid information you don't believe it!SteveMill wrote:No, it would not surprise me either. Hey - let's all make a big push to be positive up until the X2 release date whenever that is next year - at least we have news. Egosoft is a commercial operation - once X2 is completed they simply cannot afford to delay long before releasing or the competition will steal a march on them.

Eh? I thought the games market was actually doing pretty well this year, albeit driven mostly by consoles.robroy wrote:Retail sales (in general) across europe (especially in germany) are low, could this be a cause for concern to publishers buying into games ? bearing in mind that space games are usually seen as a niche market.

I read PC Gamer (well, looked at the pictures would be more accurate) this weekend and one article caught my eye which made sense. It goes something like this
"There's not much point in releasing games in Nov/Dec as there's too much competition therefore it's better to release in Jan/Feb/Mar when the competition has died down and there's more shelf space available." My paraphrase as I don't have the mag in front of me to quote from.
In response to SteveMill's comment about OU not ever appearing, I believe it will but given the effort that has gone into X2 I believe it will take longer than anticipated, bear in mind there's a lot of technology going into X2 which facilitates the development of OU, such as the script engine and I presume the graphics engine too.

In reading a similar (if not the same mag article) it does make a lot of sence expecialy for Egosoft to hold back till they know that there is gonna be a demand for there game.carran wrote:

The only problem i forsee is that there are a lot of games i have heard of that are using the same tactics (Black Hawk Down for one) to increase there sales, now the may not be the same genre but its happening throughout the board.
I am not saying that i believe that Egosoft are using this tactic (far from it) but it might work out in there favor, then again it might not as right now at this point in time there are no games out that i want to spend my money on and i have £60 sitting burning a whole in my pocket.
[edit] but i know after xmas there are a gonna be a lot of games out there that i want and will preorder and buy, X2 being one of them.
