I'm thinking when I'm older to be a work for a company as a 3D renderer. I was wondering for a good program for starters and some tips for rendering when I get it.

as i said on MSN

the one CJH uses - called Imagine

i used it before, never got to grips with 3d Models, way to diffucult for me

but i found it rather quick to learn

so thats why i say that

i have 3d Studio Max, yet i find it extremely hard, so i recommend starting with something else, and working up to 3d Studio Max, IMO it seems Max is for advanced users alreay with some experience with 3d Modelling - unless Grimm can say otherwise??

just my thoughts

CG :)

How do you mean a '3D renderer' thats a process the computer does when someone has drawn all the models and stuff.. do you mean a modeller??? Is so, PM Grimm and ask him how to start or get hold of some Free ware to have a go, i recommend Strata.. i made this in about 1/2 an hour [ external image ]

BUt you need some idea of what you want to do before you just decide to be a 'Renderer' IMO. im waiting to be proved wrong...

EDIT, just found this ani gif of the above ship. if it works hmmn, need to get some guns going on that me thinks... [ external image ]

A few top tips if you want to do this as a career.

Learn to use the industry standard products (the ones that the companies you will be applying to do jobs for will use) but don't keep yourself to one or two of these products, keep a wide 'skill-base'.

Learn to use Adobe Photoshop, as most people like to 'touch up' images after they have been generated by adding lens flares, and that sort of thing. Also learn to use the other image applications such as PSP or even MM Fireworks (though not many people use that one).

When that's done, put together a portfolio (the word that strikes fear into the hearts of many a college student) that details how much experience you have in the field as well as a lot of sample images. Don't just stick to renders of ships though as you will have to show a lot of scope, so render other things as well.
