Nice.. even made it's way on to my desktop as the newst background :D,

like the nice dark blue and black background in the image. The yellow/tan planet with it's volnaic state is nice:p and the green ships is especially nice.... should go in x2 as a secret ship that you can get from a secret place from secret people with secret motives :p maybe some people like the shadow team  really like the pic though...

Very nice Jon...Quick question. How did you do the laser effect, That's one thing I can't figure out how to do.

Hi Grimm. I'm still using Cinema 4D, While learning (Trying anyway) 3D Studio Max.

From what I can gather the two are quite similar in respect of material's and textures thou'

Well, there's a thing you can do in MAX that makes a much more realistic laser, like so:

Two steps -

1. Make a direct light, thin diameter, and as long as you need

2. Apply an effect called "Volume Light", found on the bottom of the modify panel at the right of the screen.

I can be more specific if you need...

That sounds like the thing I need, Cinema has similar options, so I'll give it a go soon, When I'm happy I'll stick some of my pic's in your gallery for all to see.

Thanx Grimm

Ok, I got the beam of light, but doesn't glow like your does..Am I missing something basic and being stupid?

I have been at work all night so please forgive :)

Also I would like the light to also illuminate to ship.

Thanx Grimm

Ok, if you're using 3D MAX, here's what you do:

1. Make direct light. That's one that goes in a straight line, and you said you've done that.

2. Go to the Modify panel on the right by clicking on the SECOND tab from the left on the panel there, go to the bottom, and open up the Atmospheres and effects panel. Click add, then click "Volume Light" and click ok. This will give you the glow.

3. To make it liiuminate the ship, you will need to add another direct light that shares the same central axis and colour as the first, but with a diameter that encompases the ship. Do not apply the volume light to this one.

That should do it - unless you're still not using MAX (hint, hint) :D

Cheer's mate...No I'm not on Max yet, I only have access to that at work, and I'm at home right now.

Playing around with cinema, don't think it has that ability, like I said before it's not that powerful.

Still didn'y solve my texturing problem with Max, and got very wound up. wondering if it's cause I imported the wireframe instead of drawing it directly in Max.

Thanx for the help

CJH,
has to be said, youre planets are ******* stunning, not sure if i've mentioned it, but ever single time I see one of your pics regardless of what I think of the ship the planet is gobsmaking..

The space nebular background is a bit patchy still, and the beams seems to be some kind of liquid hose than a beam (not glowing enough) ship now sure can't see enough, but hey who cares that is one seriously lush looking planet :D

[avis scuries off wishing he could make planets look even half as good as that,, grump grump] ;-)

Hello people,

I like the design of this ship, especially the effects in the background (beautifull planet!) but.....

Are u sure this is a laser shooting out from the front?
Looks more like a huge jet of something sick being squirted out
