Big Problem, Help!!!!!!

hey all, i just recently installed xbtf again on my computerand have had the worst problems. i can see the stars in the galaxy through EVERY object in the game and when i go to dock i often blow up unexplainably (yes i know how to play and no i'm not running into the bays with my shields low or anything) anyways i have a p4 2.0 ghz, 64 mb geforce 4, 512 mb ram etc.etc. if that helps. thx for any assistance you can render.

Ummmm.... This is a strange one. I haven't heard of this problem before. Seeing the stars through everything is something that could just be a setting for your GeForce. I mean, in the Nvidia software. Maybe anti-aliasing or something like that.

As for the unexpected exploding while docking, I have no idea. Sorry. Someone else may have some ideas, though.

I know its not an ideal solution but you could try a reinstall in case something was corrupted on install.

I am sorry mate i have never had this problem or even heard of it but a fresh install is always my first solution.

If it is a new gfx card you might need to install the latest drivers for it (the ones supplied on the disc with new cards are often out of date). Could be worth trying in any case.

You say you reinstalled the game - when you played in the past was the pc the same?

Well when i place a factory (Wilst building) i can always see stars + The Sun's Through My Factory and then they go away after its built... so... ?

only time i blew up when docking was when entering to fast(green line) but i suppose youve already checked that ?

eh i still see stars through certain objects but at least i don't explode every time i exit or enter a station lol.

Hmm, don't call me that, I REALLY don't appreciate it - you wouldn't have been the first new poster to have reported problems only to discover they are using a pirate copy.

as fer suggestions

1: i have also never heard of this seeing objects trough bug, u might wanna post a picture so we might be able to help a bit more...

2: u have all the lastest drivers etc and patched xbtf to the latest version (u prob did but asking anyway)

3: did u untick the use settings option in the starup menu???

4: dunno of this works but try changing this option: go to the properties menu of ur nvidia card then click the tab more properties (or something similar, translating from dutch u see

) then click the direct 3d settings tab in that tab u will see another button with more direct 3d click it and u will get into the anti aliasing menu, try changing the value by one up or down from what it is set on now.

5: e-mail egosoft

6: if u have WIN XP try the compability mode...

hey please tell us exactly what Geforce do you have and what company
the wors geforce4 i ever had was Chaintech GF4 MX420
if you happn to have MX then it must be model 440
MX420 is a crap

anyways the solution could be in the updating the drivers
don't use the default windows drivers
also the drivers that are on the cd that came with GF are not the best ones
the best drivers you can't even fin on the nVidia homepage
thats ironic but thats the truth
so what i recommend is to update the drivers to version 41.03
there are some others but this 41.03 is so far the best for me
you can find the drivers here http://www.guru3d.com/files/
go to Videocard drivers and then NVIDIA Detonator drivers
pick the right one like for XP you must pick the 41.03 for Winows2000/XP
don't try the others

I could be WAY off.... But I think the 'seeing stars through objects' he is talking about are the velocity /direction stars that move around you to show your speed / direction of movement. Those aren't really stars at all, but created on your HUD to give you a sense of location in space. No, you cannot turn them off. You are not seeing them "through" an object, they are drawn right there on your view port.

, anyways thanks to the rest of ya for suggestions, no i'm not being a stupid newbie and screwing up w/ the green line, i know how to dock after having the game for 2 years lol (at least i sure hope so), and no they're not the directional stars, they're stars off in the distance shining through the stations. also have the most recent drivers for nvidia geforce 4 so i just dunno. oooooooooooh well. thanks for the suggestions though.

If everyone chills therir boots including the newb to this forum 'netforce' then there will be no need for large angry smilies....

I think carran was well in his right to suggest that you may have a pirated copy, we encounter so many people that have its a standard question when folk come here with problems, so.... ok you have legit copy with a problem.. at present no-one seems to have the answer, but this is a well populated place with people who have a broad range of skills and talents. hold on a day or two and tell me we hav'nt sorted your problem
