Doodles (ZOMG, creatures?)
Just quick doodley stuff, but I just had to go try and draw some of the odder looking races to try and clear up in my own mind how they should look. That and for some reason nobody seems to have done any before.
The Boron has some question marks, in that the Argonopedia description say they have 4 primary tentacles that work as their dextrous limbs, and cannot move about unaided out of water thanks to their physiology, and thus rely on a kind of environment suit with built in anti-gravity, it never specifies *where* those tentacles originate, or how they form (ie. do they have legs, and tentacles or just tentacles), so heavy artistic lisence there. It also says their have "eyes on stalks", but the X2/X3 comms window piccies show them as having a uni-brow.

Yeah how ARE they shaped? - I couldn't find any reference piccies anwyhere, the only piccies of boron I could find (including one that appears in the backdrop of an X3 cutscene) showed them as being true humanoid, right down to arms and legs, but Boron are definatly not meant to be like that, so I went with a compromise that kept a humanoid configuration, but a cephalapoid anatomy.Avis wrote:though boron are not hunamoid in shape

yup we had the same problem (we being the now defunkt X Graphic Novel Team) I did a few consepts sketches, nothing quite as good as these though, but think a mermaid with a squid/octapuss top half and a lobster like tail with a squids natural jet in the tail (boron in their natural environment move about much like a squid by thrusting water through their bodies to create a kind of jet).
if I can find either the 1st chapter of the graphic novel or the concepts I'll post them for you.

The boron are suposed to be squids (i think)...
But their anti grav suit is human formed to simulate walking cause "floating" pisses the other races off
And for the teladi... They use their toes to flip on light switches, steer ships and other "normal" activities
That's the bad part about the x3 manual... The lack of description on the races.
By the way, have anyone noticed that argons look a bit wierd in the face?

It's all that inbreeding, I mean, how many people made up the survivors of the old Earth fleet? - and now they've colonised scores of worlds, they must have like 16 kids a family, and never use contraception to populate that many worlds - unless it's a side effect of "having a girl at every trading dock" - even the Boron onesRozgilious Taralius II wrote:The boron are suposed to be squids (i think)...

Well, the Boron comms windows, they seem to have shoulders, well a distinct neck at any rate and are sat upright.... but then they also have furrowed eyes instead of on-stalks. Meh, someone needs to do an absolute certain, no questions asked "This is how they should look" reference sheet.

Well my two buckzoids is that egosoft screwed up in the description of the race
Borons seems to be a enigma. Split, paranid and teladi are the only aliens i can picture (by the way, your pic of a teladi seems to be right on the button!)
Split (in my mind) looks like argons in a way, though a bit more built and with another skin.
Paranid are insects (no question there) and their com pictures doesn't say otherwise.
Boron are.... erm... a mystery...
Teladi are shorter then argons but a bit more agile (hence the use of the feet)
Argons *are* a offshot of the human race... Like you said Ryuu... Inbred sub-race... Almost like billy-bob in the southern america having sex with his sister
If we should take up the topic about argons vs. terrans... Then i would say that argons should *never* be allowed to return due to the "primitive" state of evolution they are in (in comparison to terrans who have nano tech and can even build their own gates)
All in all... Boron are WIERD! And boring!

Excellent picture mate
I love it. Im definately going to be joining you, I'll be doing some sketches of what I see the races as, and then Im planning on doing some 3d work to come up with 'race specific wallpapers', Got some really cool ideas for them.
