Well thats easily solved by saying that, for example; the pirates are using outdated ships for cover purposes or that they couldnt afford new ones. Simple.

Grissom replied " sir the ship has three AHEPT class Plasma throwers one Goner Transporting device and one.... Jumpdrive engine"

Y'bit shocked in the thought of why this M5 had been fitted with so much expensive equipment couldn't believe his good fortune and as he was just thinking about what he could do with this a stranger wearing a cloak aproaches him

"Hey do you need a job" said the stranger
"umm depends on what that job is" replied Y'bit with a wary tone of voice
"it involves retrieving that cargo pod from those mercenarys" said the stranger

"I don't want anything to do with that now" replied Y'bit his thoughts going over again about what was in the Pod

"Trust me by the time this is over you will be rich beyond your wildest dreams i promise" replied the stranger

"And just who are you exactly" inquired Y'bit

"I am Wolf-Claw Legendary pilot who fought in the Xenon wars"

Y'bit was still digesting this piece of information from the hitherto unknown stranger when dark robed Paranid's rushed him from all sides.

Thrown brutally to the floor he felt the cold chill of manicles clasped about his wrists and then darkness washed over him following several repeated clubbing with stun batons.

When he woke up he was on a prison ship heading fo the frozen mood of Pagen's Turmoil to cut ice cubes for Paranid cocktails. Some while later he realised the ruthless efficiency of the Paranid law enforcment in that he had been tried, found guilty and sentenced prior to being arrested and without even a summons. The only connection he could make was the mysterious metal pod he found floating in space.

3 1/2 jazuras later and still none the wiser about the exact crime he had commited or the length of time he would have to serve and he found himself on a prison transfer flight in a universe he no longer recognised.
