Thanks Nuklear, I'll give that a go with a tasty looking minotaur that I've finally foundNUKLEAR-SLUG wrote: I think the key issue is the command running on the target ship. When you attack it then it goes into combat mode and runs an attack command on you. At this point it still has weapons. Once you destroy the weapons it's still running that original command but doesn't realise it has nothing to fight with.
What you need to do is get it to reset the command it's running. Most of the time just changing to another ship seems to do the trick as when it assigns a new attack command to the new ship you're in it suddenly realises it has no guns anymore so it gives up. Try jumping out of the sector and then back again so you're no longer the ships target, then hit it a couple more times. See if that does it.

Well, I took on a Heavy Hydra, patiently grinded away its guns until it had none left, but still had 13 missiles. Since I didn't much fancy being a sitting duck in my Nova for its missiles, I flew back to my Hyperion and docked with it (through a docking computer).NUKLEAR-SLUG wrote: I think the key issue is the command running on the target ship. At this point, the Hydra apparently decided it had had enough, and it proceeded to fly towards the nearest gate. I harassed it constantly throughout its flight, and it just stone cold ignored me. I'd whittle away its shields, fly 5km or so away (good missile range), nothing. It just kept flying. Exactly the same as that damn Ryu did.
Do you always manage to get ships to completely stop on you?
In the end, I did manage to cap it with use of Cycrows Improved Boarding script, since it gives the marines a speed boost and they were able to catch up with the Hydra once I'd whittled its hull down to 60% or so, and they had little trouble capturing it. Yay

Cost me my two best marines (Grrrrr, four star guys...) but at least I now have an Ion capable M6, that should enable me to be more daring in my raids, and I hopefully won't have to sit there for 45 minutes blaring away with 1 Ion cannon to try and fry its equipment.
I appreciate all your advice Slug, thanks again

As we all know, there is no definite end to the X-Universe adventure for anyone who wishes to stay alive by reload. In a DiD enterprise, though, there is only one end. What are your plans, Squiddy? Your wonderful story just passed the 100000 mark views, so will you live up to your high status? With no end in sight, as it seems to us you keep going faster with each day? What's your limit? (I wouldn't bet anymore on that Brigantine as your highest goal)

thanks to the adventures of Squiddy I have captured more ships over hte weekend. Have not managed to get them to become stationary but to be honest I only tried with the first. the other I simply got the shields down and then dropped the marines from my M6. Got both a Yaki TM and then a TL as it appeared just as the guys were finishing capturing the TM. First attempt on the TL failed at the hull but I just picked them up and sent them in again and it worked. Lost 2 marines, 1 each time but its a small price to pay for some new ships. Think I need to concentrate on getting some marines multi-trained.
I'm also going to try and get some of the lower skilled recruits fighting experience before training them up to hopefully give them a better chance of survival.
Really looking forward to Squiddy's next installment
