that's the only thing I can recommend. Like I said, I started off just like you appear to be starting off. I am now a good 20 hours into the game and 3-4 levels of positive rep across the board for the 5 main races, and there isn't a station I can't dock at....except for that blasted Dyson Sphere.

Sorry I couldn't tell you exactly when it happened though. I just realized (fairly soon too) that I could. But as I said earlier, even if it is a legit bug and whatnot, you can get around the no docking with the trade extension to buy ships.

It says there's a bunch of new wares in the game. Like what? More primary and secondary station requirements? Interesting items like tobacco or computers?

Also, have any changes been made for players that do mining?

Or is this just another combat-oriented add-on?

Correct me if i am wrong, I thought there was suppose to be another storyline for the Xtended Mod. I just don't know how to start it, I lost all my saved files after screwing up X3, so I just started a new game. Do you have to complete the Main Story or can you start the Xtended missions via another way. I don't really want to go through that story again...

Also are there stories for the other Universes or whatever they are... Pirate Warlord, Tycoon, etc?

There are two or three extended mission sets in X-Tended; the "main" one you get by accepting a Teladi offer to give you the co-ordinates of a ship he thinks is up for salvage. Just like Bala Gi, these missions are independent of the main plot and can be done at any time, AFAIK.

ncc386: It has to be admitted that most of the new ships added in the game are combat vessels--there are one or two heavily-armed transports included, but that's about your lot. I've not personally noticed any particular additions that are helpful to traders, but I could well just have missed them since I don't usually play that sort of game anyway.

Well, in my opinion the T0 Class can be very helpful to traders.
But you're right, most of them are combat vessels. But this isn't too bad.

That's too bad for me, I guess. But it seems like an impressive accomplishment from a combat/war standpoint. Not that we're running short on those scenarios, these days. :P

I'm looking for the SY's that sell big factories, like Ashley's stuff. The docs say there's something in here "potentially compatible" with Ashleys, so does that mean a variation of Ashleys is in here, or a clone that does the same work?

I don't see Ashley's facts in the usual places, and no "extended" hubs at any shiyards. I used the X3-X3 converter, but some of my stations didn't port over due to an error, I guess, in matching up similar stations for XTM. Now I need replacements, but I can't find them.

Help!

IIRC there is a version of Ashley's made specifically for XTM. I don't have it personally, but I am pretty sure it's out there. I don't the standard Ashley works in XTM.....

note that I am saying this strictly on a memory from something I recall reading over a month and a half ago....

You know you have had enough when you dock at a pirate base and toss a couple bucks at the monitor...

Ok, next question...

I'm playing the game and managed to cap a few things. I'm seeing a lot of new equipment and not sure what to make of it.

First, what's the difference between regular shields, pirate shields and military shields? Are they interchangeable, or are the pirate/military types only for special ships?

Next, I killed a couple of dragons... No, not the Split M6's... actual dragons. They were infesting some sectors I use for stations, so I had to "clean house". Anyway, now I have some scales. What do I do with them? I've also seen rock beetles and 'drones'... Weird, but great work on adding "life" out there.

(I especially liked the rear-firing weapon on the dragon...is that what you call an a$$ blaster?)

I personally can only answer 1 of your questions. That is the rear firing weapon on the dragons, it's a Khaak weapon called a Kyon emmiter.

IIRC each shield has a different recharge rate.

And as far as I can tell, the only thing you can do with the scales is sell them. They sell for a pretty good chunk of change according to the XTM forums.

You can only currently sell them by loading them onto a ship you're going to sell and selling it at a shipyard, though--however, you get enough money from the scales that it's worth buying a ship just to do this! (Example: bought Teladi Vulture for around 400k, if memory serves, loaded 109 scales aboard it, and then sold it back for over 1.2 million).

I believe the military grade shields recharge faster than the normal ones, and the pirate ones have a chance of blocking a scan from a police ship. I believe both types have to be specifically supported by the ship you're flying; you can't use a military 25MJ shield on a ship whose max shield is a plain 25MJ variant, for example--my Otas Elite lists its max shield as "3x Military 25MJ", and it wouldn't need to do that if they were interchangeable with normal 25MJ shields.

I'm wondering if you get more for the scales of the larger shivan dragons than for the smaller ones.
I make that about 7400 per scale for your sale,
I sold 420 in a similar way after reading your first post on this,
I got 5.1 mill (!) giving around 11500 credits per scale.

Also it would be nice to know what

Cargo Bay Shielding is for, is it similar to the Software Signature Scrambler ?
And what ship can use an Anti-matter Missile (at that price they'd better be good!)

OK like the new version, some strange graphic gliches every now and then, but otherwise great stuff.

BUT (there always has to be BUT).
Spoiler
Show
I'm at the stage in Bala Gi, where I'm trying to tow the yacht back to the Teladi shipyard for repairs.
Slight technical problem.

The following sectors are flooded with pirate ships.
Spoiler
Show
The Unknown sector west of Maelstrom, and Maelstrom itself.

The pirate ships seem to be moving from Nst's Retreat to Lost Profit.

This is an endless conveyor belt of ships.
Now I like a challenge, but requiring capital class ships to finish Bala Gi does seem a little harsh.

Under any other circumstances this many pirates is great fun to have around. Especially when I get better and bigger craft (reminds me of Thynn's Abyss in X2). However, at the moment, it is just a little frustrating, when I trying to complete, what should be a fairly nice little mission.

Cheers ZB
