If you use the beam method (beam stands for something but I can't remember what!) it might be possible.

Instead of programming functions into a beambot, they learn them. And it's not a learning programme, it's circiutry(sp?) designed to function the same way a braincell does. Groups of transistors act as braincells and then linked together the act in a similar way to a brain.

Unfortunately they're only up to earthworm or basic insect-type brains (very few braincells) but in a while it'll get better, with miniturisation and all that!

When they are first turned on, it takes a few minutes for them to learn to walk, then they also head for sunlight as most are solar powered. It's a pretty poor imitation of life, but it's in the right direction!
