Unfortunately the flashing texture issue in X² is completely unrelated to any visually similar issue in X³. The X³ problem was an issue with certain ATI driver versions which they eventually fixed anyway some time after the workaround had been added to the game. There is no known solution to the X² problem which was, incidentally, not limited to ATI hardware.

Patch is as patch does

Nice TradeMark and good response!

I'm not really sure how to take that response, especially the last line, since I'm actually shocked to hear you say that your coders do not know how to fix a somewhat pronounced graphical artifact in their own engine. But thanks for explaining your side to me. It will save me the trouble of installing X2 to try the new patch out. X3 for the win!CBJ wrote:Unfortunately the flashing texture issue in X² is completely unrelated to any visually similar issue in X³. Think of the lag when you enter a sector with lots of different ship/station types.
Of course they could load all the model up-front, but you'd need that extra gigabyte (or two)
of memory in your PC to cope.

i wouldn't say that would as much of a problem as the time needed to actually create all those graphics in the first placeexogenesis wrote: If I had to guess, I'd say that the extra number of ship types in X3 vs X2 gave a big enough

Finally some news! Thank you!
But since we didn't get any hard information I take the liberty to speculate wildly
Wild speculation number 1: Egosoft is knee deep into the next project and realized that some of the new features could be easily implented into X3. This could be an improved scripting engine or (something I am really hoping for) a way to make complex building actually usable, non tedious and with less impact on computer ressources. A new script engine would actually make sense for both X2 and X3
Wild speculation Number 2: Egosoft liked some of the mods (XTM?) so much that they decided to implement parts of it in the vanilla game. Since most of the work has already been done, this would not divert too many ressources from whatever they are working on right now.
Wild specualation Number 3: Egosoft implents pink space bunnies that, when you fly into them, slowly cuddle you to death. If you shoot them, you can sell their hides at the local pirate station.

I was thinking (my wild idea), that maybe Egosoft made X2: The Return (I know: The Return became X3)? Or at least they took some ideas from it?

In fact this reminds me of the game Elite that I played many many years ago on my commodore 64 (I know this shows I'm getting oldJimmy Jazz wrote: Wild specualation Number 3: Egosoft implents pink space bunnies that, when you fly into them, slowly cuddle you to death. There was a mission of some sort that, if not done right, you ended up with yellow furball like creatures filling up your cockpit

Anyways, I'm looking forward to both updates

Spoiler
Show
They actually turn into Killer Rabbits when shot at, and you need top rank with the Emperor to buy the Holy Hand-grenade of Antigone.

Did the original Star Trek series have something akin to Trumbles? Too bad they left my ship while I was scooping for fuel.

A question of real interest is, when was the decision for making the patch made? That will naturally remain unanswered. So what were our "wishes" and "hopes" back then?
A patch sounds like a "free patch". "Free patch" creates questions: "what has paid the pizza?" and "resources away from working on something revenue-generating?"

Yes, they were called Tribbles. The Trumbles were a homage to that. And sun-skimming was the only way to get rid of Trumbles so it's not surprising that they left you when they did.jlehtone wrote:Did the original Star Trek series have something akin to Trumbles? I am sure ES have commercial reasons for releasing the patch. Even if it is just to keep peoples interest in their company and products alive.
After all customers are still buying these games - so some coin must still be trickling in - maybe another new disk release is imminent the 2007 X mass complilation DVD.
ho ho ho have another merry X mass.
I did the unmentionable and started the Christmas madness in October hangs head in deep shame.
