I have X3 (Steam) working under Wine on OpenSuse 10.2, but without music or voice. Looking forward to being able to play it properly using LGP's release.
My one question is would you be able to install the official X3 Bonus Pack (http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=165562) be easily installable onto this release?

IIRC you could install the samescripts for X2 on Linux as you could for the Windows version. The scripts don't depend on theOS, so is scripts are enabled, the same ones should work. There are some script installers that probably wouldn't work, but the scripts themselves shoud work just the same.

You might be able to run script installers under Wine or Cedega and just point them to your X3 directory. Obviously i haven't tried, but they're the sort of program that usually works.Rapier wrote:There are some script installers that probably wouldn't work, but the scripts themselves shoud work just the same.

Me too... trouble is, X3 is now a several years old game, and it isn't a mass-appeal game like (say) Oblivion, so I'm afraid the intersection of Linux users and X3 players who want to play under Linux, *and* have not already bought the Windows version or are willing to re-buy the same game they've already bought is going to be pretty small.Nulfile wrote:I will buy it! what ever the price. I would like to see people buy it just to show how much money can be made by developing games for Linux.
Basically it'll just be the people who are motivated enough to buy a second copy of the game.

Interesting update:
I just received a call for applications for the X3 Linux beta test
I had registered for the X2 for Linux beta, but was not selected (late in applying, rather old hardware). This time my system is a bit more up-to-date and I applied within an hour of receiving the email. Hope I'm in luck now...
