I've already done that. I click on x3:tc and tell it to DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE THIS GAME and then I click close.Alex Vanderbilt wrote:This question has been answered numerous times by now. For you again: Deactivate the auto-update function for X3TC and you will be fine. Where and how you do this you should know yourself, since you chose to use steam.

I even exited steam proper after doing so, hoping it would really for serious save that setting. And it does. Until I actually start the game, and then steam will decide x3:tc needs updating of an indeterminate nature.
Now I'm not even asking how to fix this, I just want to know if other steam users are seeing this or if this is some sort of weirdness on my end. Steam has lots of weirdness on their end so it gets tough to tell some days.

Just so you know, removing \SteamLocation\steamapps\common\x3 terran conflict\mov\00044.pck, and then reinstalling the mod worked like a charm on that. Another steam user earlier in the thread mentioned this problem and that fix posted worked for me.Tharaphita wrote:Im using the steam version aswell and same kind of trouble. It will auto update every time you restart. 1 thing of it affecting the game might be that Betty tells me old sector names mixed with WilmaMeSlayer wrote:This is a most impressive mod, well done on the release -- but a few questions
re: steam x3tc -- I have TC set to not automagically update, installed the mod everything is gppd; until i actually start x3tc through steam and it will pop up a notice letting me know x3tc has completed updating! It only waits for about 5 seconds or so from when i click play before it loads up the launcher but I'm getting worried something is being over-written since this mod changes base x3 files. And of course, after exiting xtc i check and the game is set to always download updates all over again.
So uhm... Is there any way to tell steam "No I'm serious, please don't update the bloody game"? Has anyone else seen this? I haven't noticed anything too crazy as far as glitches in the game but it's worrying me, and the things I have noticed I can't tell if they are WAD or not.
As an example -- how far is the reveal objects scan supposed to go? It seemed like it was only revealing things just on the outside of my scanner range, which seemed like it kind of defeated the purpose. I'm not looking for an exact km measurement but an idea of "lots more than the duplex scanner" or something.
For what it's worth, I tried just double-clicking on the x3tc.exe but it loaded it up through steam with the same HEY I JUST UPDATED YOUR GAME!!!! notice : /![]()
Im allready considering getting a torrent pirate version of the game. So i could play XTM properly
I have no idea of that is symptomatic of larger issues with installing this mod to steam or what though : / Though I it's reassuring to know that others are seeing the same thing I am/
edit- Apologies for the double post, bad form!

Setting to auto-update might not be enough, Steam could be trying to 'repair missing files' or some other nonsense. Have you tried setting it to offline mode, and then installing XTC and seeing if it works?
Since we can't prevent Steam from screwing with the game's folders after XTC is installed... Well, you'll have to go on an all-out prevention; and Steam's notoriously annoying when it wants to mess around

Been using steam without any big problems here. I had the problem with the mov files not being overwritten correctly as well, but manually copying the files worked fine. I think that might be an installer related issue though, not steam. It isn't like steam was trying to overwrite those files. They never got copied in the first place.
Steam normally won't try to re-download and overwrite what is in the game directory unless an actual patch has been pushed out, or unless you specifically tell it to verify the game's cache integrity. The fact that it would try to do any downloading when you start the game is very odd.
That said, definitely don't go torrent a pirate version. If it comes down to it, manually download the 3.0 patch, install it to an empty directory, and drop the executable in your steam directory. The steam hooks are built in the exe, so using the patch's exe should let you run the game without needing to have steam running. I haven't found a need to do this though, and run it with the steam exe with no problem.

Steam will only check the integrity of the ORIGINAL X3TC.exe. If you don't wish for steam to do this then Copy or cut your X3TC directory to another location on your hard drive. A better option would be to uninstall X3TC and XTC and then reinstall both (With X3TC updated).
I don't believe that it is XTC overwriting the original X3TC.exe. so either you have
A) The .EXE is locked and unable to be updated or is corrupted causing steam to download a replacement each time...(Indicating either a faulty steam install, unstable internet connection or a read/write error.
OR
B) Which I remember was something.....but now I just can't remember it
I think I over did it but ah well.
Anyway to your worrying about steam modifying the XTC files...no it won't.
My suspicions are on option B.
Good Luck with it.
EDIT: Yea I have steam as well and I don't have that issue.

Normally I would be building some complexes by now, but the thought of going back to doing it without complex cleaner again terrifies me. Is there anything in Xtended that eases complex construction?
Likewise, what is the best way of using the construction TLs? Is there any way to string them together into a production chain? Crystal free ecell production from the Argon TL sounds pretty hot, as I could just park them in one of those 800% or 900% sun sectors.

After not being able to ask Terran TL to move to shipyard I hired Argon Mammoth. He went to the sector with shipyard in it and then stopped. When I order it to dock to shipyard it just doesn't move.
At this point I can't buy any stations and can't have any TLs dock to Terran shipyard.
IS THERE A WAY TO DO THIS?
I don't think playing without being able to set up any stations makes sense.
Any ideas?

Sure it's the shipyard and not the wharf?ubica wrote:After not being able to ask Terran TL to move to shipyard I hired Argon Mammoth. He went to the sector with shipyard in it and then stopped. When I order it to dock to shipyard it just doesn't move.

I have Steam as well, and I've stopped worrying about this issue. Yes, if you tell it not to auto-update, it will forget that setting, and when you launch X3TC it may occasionally pop up a message saying the game is now up to date. I believe that's entirely cosmetic (related to the setting being turned back on) and it doesn't actually alter any files unless there's been an actual update released onto Steam by Egosoft.

Slowly gaining on the game. I have my Elite up to 15 meg in shields, and 5 pacs now. I swear every time I see a cargo container floating I cant pickup, but that's life..lol Missed two 500 meg shields so far, and some heavy missiles.
Took an "easy" patrol mission for 8k..three sectors, did the first one and killed the M5 there, the second one was empty, the third one ..I entered and.......ran face first into 5 Kestrals. Killed one, but the rest flew circles around me with their turrets and firing small missiles, needless to say, I'm back at the last station thinking it over.

It's a shipyard, if it were wharf it would have no stations on sale and I wouldn't try to dock a TL on it.Point Man wrote:Sure it's the shipyard and not the wharf?ubica wrote:After not being able to ask Terran TL to move to shipyard I hired Argon Mammoth.
