Sorry, that's a typo. It should say "16 or whatever the next highest number is." Really, I'm assuming anyone who downloads this knows how to install a fake patch. And if you release a patch for XTC that uses 16.cat, then obviously anyone who wants to use this 500km comm patch will have to rename it to the next highest number if your patch overwrites globals.txt, but again I'm not assuming the users are unfamiliar with the fake patch system.X2-Eliah wrote:I hope you checked all wares and scripts that rely on that variable, and not just "no ctd? Awsum, workz!"..HotSake wrote:I made a 500 km comm range mod from XTC's globals.txt file to ensure compatibility. So it will be overwritten the moment we release a patch. The 14.cat/dat is there for a reason, and overwriting that is NOT encouraged, at all.Assuming you don't have any other mods installed, just rename the CAT/DAT to 14 and drop them in your X3TC directory.
As far as wares and scripts that rely on comm range, I take no responsibility for what others choose to do with this global variable. All I've done is saved someone a few minutes of time who wants to use this tweak, and if it winds up being incompatible with XTC because of poor script writing, then so be it. This is just a quick hack, completely untested.
edit: I'll add that after a few issues with scripts/mods not installing properly under the Plugin Manager, I've taken to unpacking all scripts/mods into a temporary directory first to check for conflicts, then copying them over manually. I backed up the vanilla scripts/t folders so I can revert whenever I want. For XTC, I installed it into a temp dir, looked at what it overwrites, then backed up those files so I could revert to vanilla or my own preferred tweak pack without having to reinstall X3TC. For users who understand what I just said, I highly recommend this method for ALL scripts and mods. It's a little more work to do everything by hand, but it saves the headaches caused when automated methods break, like the occasional Plugin Manager bug, or XTC's installer not being written to backup vanilla files and reinstate them when uninstalled (not a difficult technical feat, guys).
