I bought No Man's Sky at release, refunded it after a couple of hours.
A year to the day after refunding, I bought it on sale for $20 USD. I got three times the game I bought for $60.
It's steadily improving.

NMS is still boring as anything. Despite all the "content updates" they've done, there is still very little actual content there to get stuck into.

I still think if you're on the fence at all, it's best to just not buy the game until you've seen someone else playing the game.
Believe me, there will be PLENTY of gameplay come Friday/Saturday.
ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: Wed, 28. Nov 18, 13:17 ...then I would still play it anyway. My favorite race is the Terrans, because of their ship design and advanced tech. They aren't in the game, yet that won't stop me.
Not playing a game because of a single race being excluded for now is a rather poor reason for not playing a game, but it is your choice.
Terran is also my favorite race from the X universe. I always loved getting their tech in X3 and "policing" the commonwealth with my superior technology :D
Shame they weren't in Rebirth, and (possibly) not in X4 :(

So far there was no test or even public preview of the game, so what to expect? Do the Devs know the game is not ready for launch? Nothing learned from X Abortion?

But the game is being tested as we type, it's just that it is under NDA (so no one who is testing is allowed to talk about it).

The same happened with X abortion, and there was a day one embargo from Egosoft in place prohibiting everyone to talk about the game before it was released. Why, because they know it was broken.

The thing I'm looking forward to most about X4 release is that hopefully it will stop people referring to X:Rebirth in such a disgusting manner. We get it, you didn't like the previous game, but no need to be so crude really, I'm sure you think it's funny but it's in very bad taste.

You are a fanboy ok, no issue with that.
If the new game would be so much better, and really ready for a release, then why do they not provide test examples for magazines???
Day one embargos are a cheap method to grab as much money as possible with preorders.

Do not start the whole childish "fanboy" and "troll" thing. That is not acceptable on this forum and never has been. Discuss a subject like adults, without name-calling, or don't discuss it at all.

As I said, I have no issue with that. I was it myself. And I simply put out things that repeat itself with the upcoming release.

It's nothing to do with being a "fanboy" and entirely to do with good manners and being polite on a forum.

As for not releasing a review version of the game, who reads magazines anymore? It's 2018. Most people watch youtube or twitch "let's play"s to make their game buying decisions, or they are already fans of a franchise and would like to support the devs by buying as early as possible.

It has been said thousands of times here already, there is literally no reason to pre-order if you don't want to. Simply wait for release and see some post-release reviews and then decide if the game is for you to pick it up.

I don't really get why there is some sort of entitlement which rises to the kind of thinking that there absolutely must be a playable review version of a game before the game is actually released. Yes it used to be like this in the past but times have changed with instant access to games on download platforms now (as soon as you put your payment in, you can download and play the game).

We no longer need to make decisions before the game hits the shops then physically go outside, buy a physical box, and come home again. We can make much more snap decisions on-the-fly and also with no negative side to us as consumers if we simply wait 1 or 2 days and see reviews before deciding to purchase or not.

Good manner is too close to PC for me, and I always prefer the direct brutal and often dirty but honest opinions.

Well the Magazines are also online, and yes Youtube and co are there, and I didn't see anything about X4 there also.

It is not about entitlement that I would want to play a preview version, but to get a preview/Review at all about the game from someone that actually used the product.
If I want something with prerelease access I just go to some Early access titles. Which was also hugely recommended for anything after Abortion took place.

I just see the same things happen like before, and therefore expect the same things to happen. For someone who might want to buy the game It is worth mentioning the past releases.
If the Game is actually a finished product, then fine. But something like Day-One embargo, just not a good sign, never.

There is no day-one embargo though :gruebel:

People are more than welcome to post any footage/reviews/commentary they minute the game is released. There is just an NDA on the testing (which is usually what most developers do).

You're right in that there is no review copies sent out. Review copies usually require some sort of "review build", you have to find trustworthy people to do these reviews (or get in contact with trustworthy review sites), and coordinate the review process (when they will get the review copy, how much of the game they are allowed to play/talk about/reveal). There is a lot of work involved, usually done by a dedicated PR person. Egosoft probably doesn't have the resources to dedicate to such a task.

EDIT: And we are going really off-topic here (which I've sadly contributed to). I feel like OP got plenty of answers/advice for their question. Perhaps we should move this to another topic/pm :P

I really hope x4 will not be another rebirth desaster
I am waiting like mad for gameplay reviews and can't wait for the release
But i am happy that ck2 holy fury and red dead online beta was released so i am busy anyway and can wait

Nevertheless i am a bit pessimistic still... i wrote that some time ago and i still think the same... the lack of gameplay vids or pre release lets plays is a bad sign... but please please proove me wrong

Even if it was full of bugs at the first release, how could you not support just the idea behind a game like this, it's amazing, for what we have seen from videos and screenshots it looks like it will be an incredible game, and even if there will be some bugs, knowing how they worked in previous games i would definitely say that they would fix them in a short time

Kai Lae wrote: Tue, 6. Nov 18, 17:05 Ok, while I doubt that I'm going to get a definitive answer, here's my question. I have played the X series before (X2, etc) and like the sandbox stuff. So I know I enjoy the type of game that X4 is suppposed to be. However...I also know what kind of software egosoft puts out, in that frequently after release it's a buggy, sometimes unplayable mess. I haven't been following the development of the game closely; I haven't played the X series recently (didn't like the form of rebirth and was warned off of it at the time of release because of bugs) so my question is to those that have, what do you all think? I'd dig a new X title but I don't want to undergo a root canal to play it, which is my experience with egosoft titles on release. Has anything changed?
you have 3 chooses:
- watch on friday at twitch and look whether the game runs or not. This doesnt mean the game runs on your system either.
- Buy it and try it.
- dont buy it, wait weeks for official tests.

the game will have bugs, but they will be fixed.
I dont think it will be as hard as with xrebirth, cause it was a completely new technologie for egosoft.
