Re: Conflicted...what should I do?
I run a small software team for a larger company plus have years of coding experience.
Saying that Egosoft is too busy therefore must be dealing with major problems is a non sequitur.
There are many other possible reasons for a team to be busy up to deadline which don't involve jumping to conclusions that amount to scaremongery.

I tend to not trust 3rd party review sites. Then you'll get stupid downvotes ("too much space," or that the title screen was too difficult to beat).
It might be better to watch some gameplay presented by Youtubers such as SpaceGameJunkie and TheXPGamers, people who will actually go into this game with a good idea of what to expect from an X game (and in the case of TheXPGamers, played them before).

It's your decision, nobody can make it for you. I have a bit to spare, so I bought the CE, but if you can't afford it and you're considering the normal version, than just wait. You will loose nothing and after some gameplay clips are out, you will know what to do.

The general consensus is: Buy now if you want to stick it out, come what may. Or, wait until reviews and patches are released to your satisfaction.

Re: Conflicted...what should I do?
I'm with you and the decision of what to do is very easy for me since I'm not interested in the the collectors edition and the normal edition doesn't seem to have any benefits for pre-ordering. I'll wait to buy it until it appears to be in a stable and fun state of development. I hope that will be on release however, based on the past releases I highly doubt it. I wouldn't be surprised if we have to wait 3 to 6 months.Kai Lae wrote: ↑Tue, 6. Nov 18, 17:05 Ok, while I doubt that I'm going to get a definitive answer, here's my question. I have played the X series before (X2, etc) and like the sandbox stuff. So I know I enjoy the type of game that X4 is suppposed to be. However...I also know what kind of software egosoft puts out, in that frequently after release it's a buggy, sometimes unplayable mess. I haven't been following the development of the game closely; I haven't played the X series recently (didn't like the form of rebirth and was warned off of it at the time of release because of bugs) so my question is to those that have, what do you all think? I'd dig a new X title but I don't want to undergo a root canal to play it, which is my experience with egosoft titles on release. Has anything changed?
One good thing I know based on history is Egosoft will support the game and get it into shape eventually. I prefer to start playing it without major frustration so waiting a while works best for me.

Re: Conflicted...what should I do?
I have a comment on the possible added benefits of preorder or day 1 purchase and play of either version and that is that late-comers to the game will have to be very, very careful about not having their game discovery experience spoiled by gameplay and 'mystery' disclosures in the Steam and Egosoft forums. Yes I know that some players will race to post spoilers and 'how-to's and that they will quickly outstrip the average gamer's progress in any case. Just a thought to consider though.

Re: Conflicted...what should I do?
OP, if you're concerned then wait for a few weeks post release. Simples.
For me, I pre-ordered the CE to show my support of the company for making "my type of game" in a time period when that's pretty darn rare. Either it'll be a smooth experience right out of the gate, or Ego will need boots on the ground helping to sort things out in which case I'm more than willing to provide input. Having pre-ordered XR I was there when it launched, and even at it's worst I still had a lot of fun noodling about tinkering with the game to get it to work.

Re: Conflicted...what should I do?
Its an interesting point and one it has to be said that has probably ruined the gameplay experience for many Elite players who thought they'd be getting one up on the gameplay instead of missing the gameplay.Alan Phipps wrote: ↑Thu, 15. Re: Conflicted...what should I do?
This is one of the reasons I want to get into the game on day one. I want to discover and explore things for myself, at least for the first few days. It's also why I don't mind not seeing more videos released. I for one can't wait for release day, bugs be damnedAlan Phipps wrote: ↑Thu, 15. when I way up the disadvantages of having my game discovery experience spoiled against those of my first 2 weeks in X Rebirth, I tend to prefer the former to the latter.

Re: Conflicted...what should I do?
Did you know that there are abandoned stations that you can explore to find new tech (such as a teleporter) that will give you an edge over the AI?
Did you know that you can also (as far as we know, as there is no evidence to the contrary) utilize aforementioned stations or large ships as a base by laying claim to them?
Did you know that you can control almost every ship in the game?
Did you know that the jumpgates now work, and suddenly everyone has access to Trans-Orbital Accelerators, despite Terrans not being mentioned? (though this could just be a Community of Planets reverse engineering attempt)
Did you know this game is set in space?
You have now been spoiled.

Hope for the best but expect the worst is my logic when it comes to Egos games
I'm sure game it self is good but I have same concern as you in that regard... Just wait to se what people say about stability and bugs and than go from there.

If you're on the fence, it's probably best not to pre-order. However, you could always pre-order, try the game out (as long as it's less than 2 hours played), and refund it if there is something majorly game-breaking for you.

Everything we have seen, aside from the screenshots, has been in Alpha, and a year out of date. Due to this, many things can change, or not be as we expected them to be based on what we saw.
Go in with an open mind. Don't be upset if the complex editor isn't as detailed as you imagined it. Know that if Egosoft changed something, they had a good reason for it. Enjoy the game as it is, and improvements, if needed, will come.

I shall be waiting until the boron are added as least it feels like crappy game without them I know people will have different views, but think of it a different way, what if it was Argon that were missing and not the boron or the paranoid or the spilt? how would that change your views. So I shall wait and see

...then I would still play it anyway. My favorite race is the Terrans, because of their ship design and advanced tech. They aren't in the game, yet that won't stop me.wellmadman wrote: ↑Wed, 28. Not playing a game because of a single race being excluded for now is a rather poor reason for not playing a game, but it is your choice.

Re: Conflicted...what should I do?
I just bought no mans sky, after 15 hours i was bored. X4 is worth the odd bug. ive put in thousands of hours into each of these games over the years.
I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!
