price
Of course cheaper is always better for us
, but if I was egosoft, i'd sell x2 for $50-$55. Almost all of the new games that come out are that much, and most of them aren't as good as x2 is going to be. All of us will still buy x2 at $50, it would make them more money, and the game is going to be better than most of the other $50 games.....well, just my opinion.

The pricing of X was probably a good thing: people looking for that kind of game from an unknown company would say, "Sure, why not? It's cheap," and would play it. If it was good the players would develop a hard-core fan-base.
Fast-forward to now; X2 is a spectacular product from a well-established company, so they can reasonably charge the current market price for it, which is $50 - $80.
I don't think they made a mistake with X, but they're all grown up now and don't need to give away X2 -- it has everything going for it.
Not so sure about the "hard core fan base" though -- a truly "hard core" fan only pauses between writing chapters of fan fiction to capture a few more Orionocos ... err, on second thought ...

Actually, from what I recall X-BTF cost as much as any other game did (£35 in the UK). X-Tension only cost £15, provided you already had a copy of X-BTF--if you didn't already have BTF you had to purchase the full X-Gold package, which again was £35. Therefore the only people who were getting a cheap game were people who already owned X-BTF (although I suppose you could technically say those people were getting the same as the X-Gold people but for £15 more)--everyone else, including all these newbies they were trying to attract into the fold, paid full whack.Aye Capn wrote:The pricing of X was probably a good thing: people looking for that kind of game from an unknown company would say, "Sure, why not? Well, not really. The newest version of X-Gold was released in 2001, so it really isn't that old, but since I payed more for shipping than the game I would have to agree it's faily cheap ::PAye Capn wrote:LOL I guess the cheap price I paid for X-Gold is due to how old it is ... I can't believe I hadn't heard of it until a couple of weeks ago.
