Not too worried about the state of the game as I see these games as a long term investment and treat them as such. I expect Rebirth to get to 3.0 as well.
It might not get to version 2.0 if Ego-soft quite rightly get fed up with working hard on fixing it whilst some people on this forum and elsewhere keep acting like deranged cabbages towards them.
Give it a rest. Egosoft never has, and probably never will, respond to criticism in such a manner. They're not a bunch of little kids, you know.
I am glad to hear that "THEY" are not a bunch of little kids otherwise we all really would have to worry now wouldn't we, this is very reassuring for all of us i am sure and thank you so much for enlightening us all......

Reassuring to hear a developer and publisher will not respond to criticism on the scale this release has received, not child-like at all..(BTW I'm taking my ball and going home)

Using a controller to play pc games............unfathomable really, and quite handicapping.

especially an xbox controller thats the most uncomfortable controller ive ever held in my hand since i started gaming in the late 80s

The only reason i would use a controller on my PC (and it would be a ps3 controller) is for my NES, SNES, Sega genisis, N64, PS1, PS2, PS3 emulators, which are games, surprise surprise, limited to controllers.

One thing that ive seen developers continuously fail at is user interfaces. I hope one day they will learn that PC gamers dont want controller interfaces, but im guessing its the cheap way out to do a crappy interface.

Speak for yourself, i'd rather have a controller interface on a game like this any day. If they can innovate and make it work, i can lie naked thrown out across my couch and still enjoy this game

In Regards to Customers...Being one myself since around 2001 or 2...

Post by harold5187 »

When people post their comments on the forums, they are not so much pointing fingers at the Devs, or trying to make anything personal towards them, because it's not personal towards them... It's directed towards as a motivation to Bernd to hold up his end of the bargain...

The game took 7 years to make, but I've only been waiting for it for about 2 or 3 years, because I had no prior knowledge of X Rebirth 7 years ago, so they kept it under a veil of secrecy for some time... But having to wait so long regardless, we expect the core elements of the game to work...

As it is, the core parts of the game did not work at release, which makes me wonder at that point where the programmers are writing the code, and testing that code to ensure that it works, because if they had done such testing would indicate that they too were having the same issues that they knew we would be having, and having released it in such a state, is questionable to the standards gamers expect when they buy these games, as apposed to the new standards adopted by the gaming industry to release half-baked games, in alpha, or beta...

This was not advertised as either, alpha or beta, so we were led to believe that the release would have been followed by extreme beta testing on their end, to ensure that we were not given the equivalent of an alpha/beta game release.

Egosoft is still my favorite company, but I expect more out of them, to at least keep to the standards of their previous games... which pretty much worked at release, with the expection of common bugs, for the most part, the trading worked, the docking worked, the core parts worked, but not in X Rebirth...

If I write code, I test to, before I release it, but what I do not do, is release it and expect our paying customers to act as our beta testers, so can you understand our frustration... You do not pay to work at Egosoft, but we have to pay to deal with core problems that should have not existed at the release of this NON-alpha/beta.... It would be understandable if they had released it as a beta, then we would have no reason to complain...

My point is that when the developers are creating this game, they would test each part they are working on, and say, it's not working, it needs to be fixed before release... This did not happen, which makes me think it's part of ObamaCare's Healthcare Website, was there any end-to-end testing, obviously not... So where did the 600 million dollars go, hypothetically speaking...

Thankyou

Come on, folks, it doesn't matter how much $50 is worth 'to you,' what matters is the price point when compared to what else you can buy for $50. It's the cost of a major PC title. Obviously, a lot of people feel let down.

Now imagine you've worked for Egosoft for a long time. Unless you're The Boss, you probably feel let down, too, because you know better than most what your company is capable of, and you also know quite a lot more than anyone else on this forum why XR is so far off that mark. That fact and the likely struggles the team faced in getting this product to market is going to be responsible for career moves, if any. I live in a town with a lot of game developers (Austin) and none of them would pack up and leave because of what somebody said on a forum. They hire people or get volunteers to read forums precisely because there is so much noise and vulgarity.

The space sim market is still shaped in such a way that many of us will be happy/eager to see where XR goes in the next few months. Not as many will be as tolerant as they were for TC and AP due to the chasm between the expectation of some bugs and not-yet-fully-implemented features and the release state of the game. That trust will be very hard to get back and if I worked at Ego, that credibility is one thing that would cause me to question working for a company whose internal controls are insufficient to keep something like this from happening.

But unless and until Elite and Star Citizen are released and provide real competition, there ain't anywhere else to go. I hope Ego pulls through because they have a unique product. But I won't ever pre-order one again.

Thats the beauty of the PC, the choice of control available, you want less choice by the sound of it. Can't understand that train of thought, more choice is always best.
You don't seem to realize the whole of the game's UI is determined by the use of the Xbox controller. It's not a choice. Per example in Arma you have a choice, in The Walking Dead, by Telltale, you have a choice, in GTA you have a choice, as well as in Risk of Rain. In X Rebirth you have sub-par keyboard and mouse support because the Xbox controller was given preference. I'm all about choice when it comes to control surfaces. This is not choice, don't fool yourself.

--- What follows is not directed at anyone in particular.

I must say that while I don't condone the way some people have expressed their disappointment, that disappointment is very much justified. Egosoft hid the truth about the state of the game before release, and that is not justifiable. The brutal reviews the game has gotten are well deserved and not taking into account the way it was expressed, I have seen no bad opinion that wasn't deserved as well.

You don't have to go all out fanboy just because you like the game. It has some good things and a lot of bad things. I for one want the game to improve, and can see myself enjoying it, but that doesn't mean I'm blind.

I for one am thankful for all the effort the people at Egosoft are doing for us. Working evenings, working Saturdays. And I love X:R big time! Even in it's current state I find it an enjoyable game. I can't wait until it gets even better! :)

OK, so basically I get robbed of 50 euro getting a COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE TURD instead of a game and I should be grateful that the devs kindly fix the mess they created on their own (took them SEVEN years too, now that's a laugh)... Wow, really?
Maybe I should apologize, send them flowers, and go buy another 20 copies so that they feel appreciated enough?

Are you guys for real?

I really miss the pre-broadband days when the product (be it game or a program) had to be actually FINISHED before releasing, because there was no patching and no going back. But now, you get an unplayable POS and wait politely until it gets patched to a condition that it should have been in at release date.

By the way, don't worry about them quitting and finding another job - when a potential new employer hears that they were involved in X:R, he will fall of his chair laughing.

It's not right to release a game for fifty bucks and have it crashing so hard you can't even play. Seven years and this is all they could do? EGOSOFT or not, I expect a finished product that works. Not to mention the quality of the game is so low, I've seen better on consoles than this.

Even if the devs did fix all the bugs (a couple of years from now...) then that still wouldn't be good enough because the game itself is broken. This game is a lost cause and a sinking ship.

I think if you look deep enough, you'll find most people aren't angry or disappointed with Egosoft, but angry and disappointed with themselves. I for one have a "no preorder" policy which I kind of broke by buying Rebirth on release day. These days I like to wait a while and check reviews and stuff before buying, as I've had several titles that have burned me before, and that's what I had intended to do with Rebirth. However, I let my excitment drive my purchase decision, rather than reason, and now I have something that I could have easily avoided having by waiting a day or two and seeing the response. The desicion to purchase was mine and mine alone. As a gamer, I know the routine of demoing pristine software to reviewers, and only showing the best parts of the game in previews. That's what lead to my policy in the first place. I ignored my better judgement in this case, so I blame no one but myself.

I've forgiven myself for breaking my own rule, and now I'm going to make the best of it. Perhaps some people here need to look at their own qctions and forgive themselves too.

Which you took because you "trusted" Egosoft. Visa vi, ergo, the anger and disappointment should be aimed at Egosoft, not themselves.

People are used to getting buggy games from time to time, but what happened with X-Rebirth was far beyond that, ones of the few games that can easily fall into the "worst releases in gaming history" category. The marketing and description for the game was and is outright deceptive.

Dont forget, the video game industry died at one point in history (aka, video game crash of 1983), and thats because games were being sold in buggy broken states. They were rushed, and under developed. Publishers came about as a form of quality control (ironic because now it feels like the opposite is true).

Customers should be upset at Egosoft for this one, not themselves.

For some reason people think this would make a difference? Getting shouted and screamed at on the internet is hardly going to make a difference, surely? Wouldn't it be better to vote with your wallet and not buy their games?

I'm quite serious, though. Do you really think yelling abuse at Egosoft is going to change things? Wouldn't it be better to a) criticise constructively, or b) not respond financially?

If only they would have released the game as an Early Access all this would have probably been avoided.

They'd have been allowed to have all these bugs as the game would still be thought of as 'In Development'

Objectively? It absolutely makes a difference. When done in mass numbers, it sends a powerful message, one that says "if you dont want this reaction, change strategy for future releases". It also has an impact with the investors tied to the publisher.

Additionally, venting frustration on the internet is also helpful for the consumer, if they feel betrayed or ripped off... then there needs to be a coping mechanism.

Whether or not you choose to call that abuse is up to you, but that doesnt make it true for everyone.

If steam allowed refunds, then yes people could vote with their wallet in this case, but that phrase doesnt always apply depending on the circumstances.

So the outcry on these forums, on the steam rating system, on metacritic... does have a financial blow associated with it. Perhaps what you really want is censorship?

btw, they did say they had a demo ready but chose not to release it to the public because it wouldnt be big or long enough to show off the best the game has to offer. Seems more like they were more interested in hiding its incomplete status.

A 7 year project means it didn't have a clear goal, or fully fleshed out ideas, or maybe it wasn't their sole focus.

You can't expect a game to be great just because of the time it was in development.

You only have your self to blame for purchasing the game. It may have taken them 7 years before they had something they wanted to release to the public, but it could have taken you an hour to read some reviews once it came out.

I'm not sure why you're around here trying to stir the flames even higher, but if you don't knock it off and show a little more respect for everyone, and I mean both sides of the debate, your stay here won't last much longer. So once and for all, enough, Gupster!

Yeah, luckily I waited to see the reviews on the forum and some gameplay on other sites. Ever since SWTOR I made a promise to myself that I would never pre-order.

The only thing I bought was the soundtrack, and I must say I'm loving every bit of it. To be honest, the only thing I like about X-Rebirth is the music that Alexei did.
