Yes, the 2 more juicy sectors from X3R still include the rock clusters in TC.

..a brief explanation as to why the Split Caimen Miner mounted with 4 x FBL (inadaquate laser gen to boot) and all the pre-quisite software is quite unable to mine an "Nividium Asteroid" might be a welcome addition to the guide :)

That's a simple one. Only guns in turrets are used to mobile mine and your 4 FBLs are all in the front. The Caiman Miner will fit only a MDS in the back turret, which is just as well for you as that is the only laser that will break a sector-class asteroid. So the answer in this case is to get a MDS and install it in the turret, then break the asteroid before mobile mining IS or rock-collecting OOS.

Edit: By the way if you are asking why the FBLs at the front can't break rocks with you IS or even shooting them, that is because FBLs have a problem directly hitting anything small and then do no burst damage. Use PACs/IREs instead.

Hiya Alan, well i never realised that a sector class asteroid can only be broken with the MDS laser, i might well be mistaken, yet, i am sure i have in the past used M\AM launchers to break asteroids and had assumed that the mid range lasers would be sufficiant for the job,

Edit, only just seen your edit Alan, I am IS and will give that a whirl very very shortly, Thankyou :)

Hi York Bro, I just shot up a sector asteroid with Prototype M/AMLs (pretty close to a Terran M/AML I think) and they didn't scratch it. Those must have been big rocks rather than full sector asteroids that you broke with them. I'm certain that you have to use either MDS or a big yield missile to break the full ones.

You probably realise that my edit was about breaking rocks, ie less than sector asteroids, when IS. FBLs probably break rocks just fine with you OOS, but only if they are in a turret.

hi Alan, whilst fairly confident that i was in fact using pM\AM i honestly do not recall if it was a "full" asteroid or not that i was then working

yes, i knew what you was gettin at in your edit and it did indeed help me enormeously(sp), after reading i set about trading the FBL`s in favour of a MD laser and now the exercise is a viable money earner, thankyou for your help :)

Just a note on selling Nividium:

Pirate Anarchy Ports will also buy the stuff (for 16,000 each!). At least, the one I found in LooLeg did. Supposedly there's another in Hat's Faith, but can't find it yet...

How much nvidium can you ofload there at a pirate base?
Do they take 2 units (NMMC HQ) , 38(hub) or more ?

Check out the bartering menus in all stations in a sector where there's a station buying/selling nividium. You can sometimes get a barter deal that wants lots of nividium, and usually at max price.

Using an updated version of X3R (dunno if it included the script mentioned earlier through Egosoft bonus pack but I only play Vanilla -not for moral reasons I am just pc illiterate-) I was able to get them to collect rocks without droping shields via autopilot BOTH my ship and other ships.

Now the interesting part was this: OOS they would take ages but if you were IS and or lookign at them they would ram the rocks like mad (due to how collisions work I think the autocommand was ment to be used OOS) and die fast but you could use Hyperion(s) (I used one as never RE it as I had it Pandora'd before getting PHQ) and let them collect a few hunder and then when shields went dangerously low (3G remember) just stop drop and recollect). I never tried with M2s.

Point is while you couldnt ram yourself as in X3TC you could sit an watch other ships ram around... was just a bit riskier but thats what saves are for :P

Hope it helps somehow...

Hrmm, I'm trying to use your method but I'm having trouble. Every time I hit an asteroid either with the MDS or by ramming it with an M1, it just disappears, no little asteroids spawn at all that I can tell. I tried it in Khaak sector 831 and several sectors where I used the unfocused jump drive. Any idea why that might happen? Happens with Nividium, Silicon, and Ore asteroids. Something I'm missing? All I want is the stupid 500 for the Hub quest.

Do you have an Ore Collector installed on your ship. That's a requirement to recover any minerals.

Yes, ore collector, mineral scanner, though even without these I'd think I should be able to break them up just not collect them. I was able to collect one that started out as a small rock, but anything I try to break up with my MDS is just annihilated.

Not sure if this guide is still active but I found it useful so I would like to add a bit of info on selling Nividium.

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=3149877

Basically load it into TS's for deliver ship missions.

And you dredged up a five year old thread just for that?

Please don't do it again.
