But, y'all forgot about one very important thing, maybe if there was a way to lower the resolution to say 800x600 or 680x480 we all wouldn't have so many damn slowdown problems, that would be a sweet option to turn on, in a new patch, at least for X-3 anyway.

That option is not possible for X³ - sorry.

And not needed. As we all (should) know by now, that X3's biggest performance issues are CPU related and not the graphics.

And if you can't run X3 on 800x600, well then you really need an upgrade. :P

Yes, I'm quite... suspicious... of what the proposed patches will contain. Obviously not major game enhancements or bug fixes. Perhaps just a slight compatibility fix to allow the Mission Editor to work with them? I guess we'll have to see what this super secret mystery surprise patch is all about.

I'm wondering what could possibly be added to X3. With all the mods and scripts out there, can you possibly add anything else?

I'm pretty much with apricotslice here in saying the autopilot needs majour sorting out. Especially since, last night, I had to read the message Your "Mobile Base Yggdrasil was destroyed in Merchant Haven by Teladi Trading Station"
I turned the game off after that.

But don't bet me wrong, I'm no nay-sayer. Cause if its one thing I like, its sexy ships. So if the new patches have lots of sexy new ships, Ill happily keep reloading my game after the AI has tried to fly my TLs through stations.

I see everyone is theorizing on what the new patch could contain: I doubt the roids will be cleared from the space lanes, or ability to use screen sizes of 640x480 (no-one runs a prehistoric pc in X these days). I would love the AI path-finding to perform better but I doubt we will see much improvement really (especially since I doubt the roids will be cleared out of the space lanes). Improved CPU usage will probably be included (it always is to some extent) but remember they will probably introduce something new so that will equal out maybe?

So what new things do I think might be in it? Well a few weeks ago a small rumor went around saying that the XTM team were working with Egosoft. Maybe there was some truth in this? Maybe we get some new sectors and ships? Maybe some of the best and most balanced bits of XTM, but please don’t give us the shipyards, they may be nice but they’re too big for such confined systems.

Some things I would like to see is the re-introduction of AEGIS and gunnery crews, maybe the ability for a TL to carry a limited number of TS/TP ships, M2’s to allow a docking of a M5/4/3 making M2’s useful again, more sectors for sale.

One thing I would like to see removed is ‘Intermediate products’, they’re just a problem for the trading scripts making them over complex and it was a bit of a silly idea really.

But at this time we can theorize away, because whatever is in the patch is almost ‘set-in-stone’ and no matter what we talk about here will probably get into it (if it’s not in it already and anyway this is not DEVNET).

The way they are speaking is like there shall be a big difference in our game? But something to take note of is the version number… its V2.5 not V3… this maybe significant and maybe not? But I'm sure we will all enjoy it and find the game has matured again.

I must admit i think speculating on this one is especially futile. Because we don't even have a hint of a clue. In order to stave off any regrets it is best just to look at whatever it is as a pure bonus - which it is.

I think it is especially good of ES to be doing something more with X2 since it is no longer the current flagship model!

Co-op Mode. That would be fantastic to have a couple people running through the system.

I'm thinking the patch to x2 will contain one of the same things that gets added to x3. And I'm hoping for multiplayer.

a multiplayer patch would never happen, there is far too much work involved in creating the game multiplayer to put in a free patch

Who says it would have to be free ;) (I'd love to play on a 8-64ish player server, alas, another topic).

While I understand all too well why you don't want to say when the patch is coming out, could you at least drop a hint if it will be days, weeks, months, next year?

I get the feeling that they enjoy making us squirm a bit...

However, I will not be setting myself up for inevitable disappointment with statements such as "I hope it has this" or "It better fix this" etc. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be awesome or at least better than nothing new at all. Not to mention, this pretty much solidifies the fact that Egosoft is working on another commercial release. I would find it hard to believe that they are just spending all their time on the clock to support and upgrade an old product for free.
Also, I'm further intrigued by the big version jump from 2.0.02 to 2.5 . If that says anything about how much work has gone into it, they could probably get away with selling this as an expansion. Whatever comes next, I know I'm buying!

One of the reasons why they dont tell us when its due is that the forum becomes unbareable if they have to push it back a bit.

Anyway I will be thankfull for a nice chrissy present even if I dont know whats inside, and i dont mind waiting.

I actually have a legitimate request for EgoSoft:

If you are going to the trouble of patching X2, please implement an option to fix those flashing textures when using ATI cards. You added it to X3, if I remember correctly. Wasn't it disabled vertex optimizations? I don't really notice too much on stations, but on rear turrets (when in the cockpit) and most asteroids, it looks like the textures are flashing black several times per second.

I would be most greatful if you could do something about that while you're working on your new patches for both games. Thanks! :D
