Since my video card is only a ATI 9600 pro and MB is AGP (almost no support for AGP cards anymore PCI Express), I would need to build a whole new computer to support the latest greatest EXPENSIVE monster vido cards.
I am sick and tired of having to upgrade every two years. Too much money.
I can play the rolling demo at low resolution 25 FPS, but medium is about tops at 10 FPS just barely tolerable but any graphics setting lower than this just looks terrible.
The demo is very much interested in to see how it plays on my system under real world conditions.
I have been waiting for this, how the inferace is, and no cockpits plays.
My purchase is very much tied to the demo.
Demos are very important to me for any game.

A Question for people who played the full version and this demo:
Is argon primes as busy in the demo as in the full version
(not including Argon 1 and Titan)
Is argon primes as busy in the demo as in the full version

I find the demo pretty cool. Get the patch guys --- it works.
I only wish it had a save feature on it. After 4 hours playing I was "like what .....@#$@", I had many stations and ships and was kicking ass.
I wanted to save it for tommorrow. Even if it was only one save slot it would be awesome. The constant waves of ka'ak were great.

Hey guys, try reply to this ASAP please, we all know how frustrating it can be when you have a problem like this-
I got the demo, appropriately more excited than a puppy on 50mg of adrenalin , after eating a crate of skittles.
The demo crashed, and couldnt be started again because of a a "file not found" error
I downloaded the patch, and installed it
Still doesn't work, but different this time. The game wont run at all, even straight after install, but no file nt found, this time just standard microsoft "This program has encountered a problem and needs to close". I can't get it to start at all....
??????
Help?

There is a small update to solve the file not found error also available from the download page. I'm a little surprised if you are getting this if you downloaded the playable demo from here because the version on the downloads page has had this problem fixed.
With regard to your other error message, you'll need to post some system specifications preferably in the form of DXDiag output. There are several possible causes for this, most of which involve not having hardware that meets the minimum requirements or having some other system configuration problem such as the wrong DirectX version.

Ok... Normally it wouldn't surprise me if it were my system specs, considering that im using a very weak PC. But the nature of the problem is very strange - The demo ( which i got from Gamershell and therefore probably wasn't patched up yet ) worked fine, right up until hte point where i changed the mouse inversion (which would have deleted the file ) and then fired my lasers (which crashed the demo) I was confused, since i hadn't yet read these forums, and so tried it again. The same thing happened, and the demo still worked right up till that point. Then, after reinstalling it (I've tried every different combination, fresh install, fresh install w/o patch and w/patch, and no matter what happens, it won't even display the splash screen at the beginning (I'm not sure if it's called splash screen, i mean the little window where you can set the graphics before playing the game.)
I have the dxdiag here, but i don't know how to post it for you without taking up a huge amount of post space. i can tell you, however, that I have 512 RAM, a 128mb radeon 9200 and a 2.2ghz processor. i have direct x 9.c
Any ideas?

It sounds like something is corrupt now. I suggest first of all using the Star-Force removal tool (see link in the copy protection sticky thread) and deleting registry entries associated with X³, then reinstalling the demo followed by the little demo patch that sorts out the file not found error (that error only happens on the second and subsequent runs, not the first).
Don't worry about taking up a lot of post space with your DXDiag, but in fact it probably won't help if you can't even get to the initial options screen.
Incidentally, just a quick warning. Your graphics card is one of the very slowest that is technically capable of running X³ so you will need to turn all the graphics options down as far as they will go. Bear in mind that there are more options in 1.4 than in the demo, so you may be able to squeeze a little more graphical performance out of it than from the demo.

OK. I uninstalled the demo, and used the copy protection remover tool. However I couldn't find the X3 registry entries using regedit.exe. Could you tell me where they are, or even if they should be there? All that was in software/egosoftware was the X2 files from the prequel. Incidentally, after uninstalling the demo and copy protection, it still fails to run even the first time.
And regarding my graphics card, im ok with that, X3 was always about gameplay for me, not graphics.
I'm still praying you can help me with this !
