I've never actually played long enough to get money to finance taking over a hostile system but i'd imagine those new drone ships would prolly have some sort of imbalanced OoS combat rank that allows them to destroy everything.

I thought the mod allowed the player to claim a system--are you telling me that even if i clear a sector i'll still have endless hostile ships spawning out of thin space air continually? cause thats really gay. My dream was always to take over a pirate sector arm then slowly make an incursion into a races space claiming them as i go until i have a sprawling private empire.

Is OOS combat completely broken for anyone else or am I just horribly missing something?
normal Vanilla OOS wickedness... can't really be changed. You could try Gazz's better OOS script, no promise that it will work though.
What is the usual stuff that you have to deal with there? Fighters i would combat with fighters actually. A Dronecarrier for example, and you don't have to worry about replacing fighters - it does it on its own (if you have enough money).

what commands do you give your ships?

As of now, I have two Titan M2's set to defend pos @10KM on the gates (Otana Prime), then have a Thresher fully loaded set to protect one and a Panther with full drone compliment set to protect the other. I've kind of solved the problem for now by dumping a massive amount of laser towers at each gate, which slaughter everything the second it comes through :P

Does the STO script work with Xtended? That'd be a hell of a thing for my armada.

EDIT: Yeah, I know OOS in TC is pretty messed up-and I hadn't really made it up to a level of having armadas patrolling sectors in vanilla. So I was wondering if I'm just completely missing something obvious :)

EDIT^2: As for what I'm dealing with-Boron tech. Hydras, Heavy Hydras, Krakens get wiped out in seconds-but the minute a Thresher shows up it takes out everything. Including my own Threshers.

Final EDIT: STO script worked. The Otana systems are now official property of the Northern Sector Exploratory Company 8)

For oos script that Gazz made I think you'd have to input the laser stats from the X-tended mod in order for it to work properly. Least that's what I can remember from reading something along those lines a few months back.

  • - Is it correct that the scram cannon does actually use way more energy then stated?

The whole point of having an ammo-based weapon was for me to have (almost) no energy drain.
  • - Does the production of ammo with the ammo generator cost anything?

The manual states using a missile generator to produce missiles would be very expensive, so i guess that it'll drain your money as it works. I wonder if that applies for the ammo generator too? some information there might be nice...
  • - Will red units at some point eventually turn blue again?

I've appearantly upset part of the split military, and even with me at rank 10 with the split, those ships will shoot at me sometimes if i get to close. Has been this way for a couple of game days now.
  • - How to script my reputation with the aldrians up?

Since nothing can affect the relation with them, there is no other way.
  • - How to further train marines?

The training menu doesn't show up in EQD's, military outposts and mercenary stations. Guess there has to be another way, or the player is intended to use the pre-trained marines.
  • - I'm not able to complete the new combat missions. What am I supposed to do?

I mean the ones added with the mod "blabla apply for sector defense duty here!", not the vanilla patrols)
There is no yellow bracketed target to intercept...
Even if i kill all pirates in sector and no freighters die the mission ends as a "failure" as stated in the message i get after ending the mission with sending the report.
  • - There are sometimes missiles surviving the usage of chaff/ecm. is this intended?

The manual states chaff would only kill anti-fighter missiles. it most certainly also kills m8-missiles and hornets.
Hey. Has someone answers for my gameplay-related questions? :-/

This list of questions is just too long to be answered by one person - thus most people will just skip it :D I suggest making single posts next time ;)

However, what I can answer:
- Will red units at some point eventually turn blue again?
when they leave the sector
- How to further train marines?
pirate bases
- There are sometimes missiles surviving the usage of chaff/ecm. is this intended?
Probably because the ECM needs a certain time to recharge

[EDIT:]
How to script my reputation with the aldrians up?
Why? The used Aldrin-race-slot is broken, and there is no way to fix that for 1.2. In 2.0 we will use another slot, which won't have that issue - but why for the heck do you need to script them up - they don't attack you or do they?

thank you for your answers :-)
i didn't intent to double-, triple- and quadruplepost, so i edited it all in the first.

well, that split battlegroup does not seem to ever leave the sector. guess i will have to live with it.

training only at pirate bases, oh crap, i just made good efforts to kill each and every pirate i could find... guess if i blow up a base a new one will spawn thats hopefully blue. but at rank -4 with the pirates? meh..

ecm needs time to recharge, sure it does, but that wouldn't explain why some missiles survive while others not.

they don't attack me tough some costums are red to me for something i did very early in the game, i'd just like to have the opportunity to dock at their shipyard and maybe buy an springblossom at some point. aside from the weak shields its a very nice ship...

Iirc on some missile types the ecm has a chance of failure, to not make it in a guaranteed missile insta-killer.

Besides that the separate install versions and might I add the more up to date scripts that the bonus pack installs are around the script and mods section. Minus the turbo boost.

XTC has it's own turbo boost feature.

Do note if you don't hear any music in game that's an issue of having installed it to the programs directory.

I fixed it by making a separate install somewhere else and installed the mod there.

This lag issue is becoming very apparant to me as of lately. I cannot use seta anymore. 5x seta needs some time for the pc to recover from it when deactivating seta.. Like a couple %. 10x seta needs like hours and hours to recover. 10 hours of seta at night means xtc has to recover for a whole day. That means sluggish implayable stuttering for a whole day at 6-10fps. Then it will go back to 60+fps

I have a 4200 mhz running core i7 920 with 6gb of 1600mhz ram and 2x gtx 280 in sli. So if anyone tells me to upgrade then i can only laugh as hard as possible. What would you have me upgrade to??? LN2?

No, atm i'm battlemaster and magnate rank, total value of my empire at 11 billion credits. some 300 ships and about the same number of space stations. Outputting a constant flow of space ships from a large array of shipyards.

This late game lag is really killing the experience now for me. Don't know if i should go back to some other ship and universe overhaul mod and throw a couple of smaller mods into the mix, and start anew or become nuts until 2.0 is released. I know it has been said that there is a lag which atm is unresolved and will be in 2.0, but if we could at least disable or work around it, because this is getting more and more terrible. This is at 37 hrs[correction days] of playing time.

Battle is really unenjoyable as at this reputation level the sectors are overflown with enemy spawns like last patrol was 220 enemies in just one sector destroyed of which about 10-15 polacca's and the same amount of morrigu's. My small intervention fleet of 100+ m3-4 fighters, 4 carriers and 8 destroyers shot them to dust at really impressive frame rates of like 4-5 fps.

I love this mod and what it does, but it seems there are some mods around who do not ruin the late game experience and you can actually enjoy having a huge empire and just rule the galaxy on your own. So what will i miss??? The spawn system, the loot system, the bailing system, the new racialised weapons? Hmmmm anyone with an idea???? Maybe like... this or that mod will give you most of XTC's changes and is very stable and tested. Or like this lag issue is going to be solved prior to 2.0's release which could take months?

Because i can tell you, when i hit 6fps in battles the fun is over. Your pretty much bound to space station building and trading.

besides what Eliah has said, what is important in this game is... two things... CPU processing power... even though this game only lets it use one core and 2... ram, more ram you have the better. For your CPU and Ram I hope your rig is well ventilated because if it heats up your game will slow down considerably. Heat = slower processing and handling of game stuff.

Edit: Eliah meant this

UPDATE
Some performance issues have been identified and fixed to help reduce late game lag issues.

This hotfix also includes the blank mission fix from the previous hotfix.

Also included in this patch is a blocking script to remove the issue caused by the steam 3.1.1 patch. This will only stop the issue from occurring in the first place, any damage done to the map due to this patch cannot be reversed by us.

Performance hotfix: http://downloads.thexuniverse.us/XTC_Re ... otpatch.7z

This can only be installed after 1.2a is already installed. To install the fix just extract the folders in the 7zip file to your main TC folder.

My rig is really well ventilated and temperaturs in the netherlands have been at an all time low for summertime. I believe this was the coldest summer i ever saw in my 32 years of existence. Actually i have a thermaltake hightower something case with 3 large 120mm fans on the entire front, 2 on the back. a 300mm fans on top. a huge heatsink extreme ultra 120 (thermaltake???) with 2 120mm fans blowing in and out of the fins. Actually this thing makes some noise, but it's in a different room then my tv. So i don't care if it makes jet propulsion noise, i won't hear any of it anyways.

And memory. No matter how much memory you have this game ain't using anything beyond ~3.6gb, and thats accounting for the large memory flag. The executable isn't 64 bit. So 6gb should be nough.

The performance hotfix i did install to T and Director folder. Tho i have to add that i did see some blank missions even after having installed it, tho only at the very start of the game. Late game these blank missions don't show up at all. But i imagine i do not have to run some script command to initialise the fixes or do i??? Because if that would solve the problem then you are my hero. But i doubt it. i might add i know what i'm doing when using folders. And no my x3tc isn't installed in program files. Thats only where operating system dependant installations go. if i ever reinstall windows most of my games don't need reinstallation. Just a reg file (maybe vc libraries) and things are fresh as newly installed. Also i seperate my games from my system hard drive for performance. No swapfile lag. No system lag.

And talking about cpu. There really isn't any upgrade. x3tc uses 1 core. The next best thing for me would be a core i7 980x and who'll guarantee a 4.2ghz overclock for me? And as you've said it x3tc is NOT multithreaded. At all. So more cores means more idle resources. But x3tc isn't going to profit from any of it.

So to me it sounds as a beyond me case. But you seem to think that all those lag issues were resolved with the latest patch right?
