I take it from your post that there is no way to start them producing again. :o Right? If so I *cry* too. But to clarify I'm not an upset user nor do I want you lynched.

There is a way... I guess I updated it in one converter, and did not do so in the other.

Well then, I'll provide a fix.

What happened to the Terrans?

Post by Sean Murray »

I copied over my vanilla (well, XTM) gamedata. It went nicely. However, when I went to heretics end, it was as it was before the missions (I completed them all)...no gate to the earth, no angry hostile terrans...it was back to a standard sector. That means I have to do all the missions agaiin in order to access the earth sector and any beyond it??

Help!

Sean Murray,

You don't have to redo the vanilla missions. Use the XTM AI menu to "enable terrans in non-plot game". It works for plot games as well and will open the Terran Earth Gate. But you will not have a very good rep with them, if you had a good one with XTM before, so you'll have to get that back.

You can use LVs cheats to get various race reps back to where you had them.

Chessmon: Download a.x2x3converter.kickstation.zip, unzip it, stick it in your "scripts"-directory and start the game. Then open scripteditor, look for the script, select it, press "r" and twice "Enter". This has got a chance to solve your problem with the non-working stations.

Clarification and many Thanx

Thanx for this I’ve downloaded it. However I won't be able to try this until the end of next week. :(
I will put those files in the X3 “Scripts” folder. Then load my Converted game with the frozen stations. Then in Script editor with your script selected I press “r” once and “enter” twice. I know these are picky clarifications and even show my endless ignorance, but I just want to be sure. If any of what I just wrote is wrong, then post a clarification. If I don’t see another post I will assume I understood you correctly. Thanx again for all you work, I hope they pay you well for this. :D I'll tell you how it went next week.

I am doing an X3 to Xtended conversion. I successfully created the file and did all I needed, but X3 crashes every time that i try to read the file and transfer everything in Xtended.

seanmoshier,

When I did my first attempts, XTM is very sensitive to any non-vanilla items being imported (ships especially). I had to delete some imported ships from my fleet before I created the write file.

Also there used to be an issue if when you renamed the txt file it didn't retain the proper UYTF-8 format. One check is to open the text file with a program like Notepad++ that will show you what format it is in before you rename it.

And then finally, where did it crash at? Did it give you any error messages at all to show it was starting? When I ran mine I checked that the file was good first in a vanilla install. And then made sure XTM was running clean before I ran the converter again.

When XTM starts, it is going to use up a whole lot of resources and have a ton of stuff starting in the universe. If you are running it as soon as a new game starts in Argon Prime, there may be too many elements. Try flying to the cleanest sector you can in your new game.

seanmoshier,

Okay, I'm not a scripter, but just that list sounds like it burped from the vanilla save game.

Unless Symtech or someone recognizes a simple glitch I would save some frustration and digging by starting clean.

I would suggest you stop here and then re-install a clean X3 2.0.02/BalaGi/Bonus3.1.07.

Before you do that, do you still have good clean last save game(s)? If so save it somewhere outside of the saves folder.

Re-install clean vanilla and check it runs fine. If you can start a new X3 vanilla game, then copy the entire install folder to a safe place. That will always be your bakup if anything burps again.

Now clean out your saves folder and only copy your good save game(s) back into the save folder and see if you can get back into that save(s).

If that all works, install the Converter using the Plugin Manager. Don't forget to install the extra XTM file as well. EDIT BAD INFO The converter is listed under the Piracy menu.

EDIT BAD INFO If the converter (WRITE) works okay then save all of the converter built files in a safe place. Make sure you check that UYTF-8 format and make sure you rename the files properly. Follow the instructions on where to put those files.

Now try running the converter to copy your save empire (READ) to a new Vanilla game. If it burps here then we at least have some other issues to work on. Only if that works you are then ready to try installing XTM.

Now install XTM and make sure you can open a NEW XTM game. Only if XTM is running okay, then make another copy of your X3 install folder. That is now your clean XTM bakup for as long as you play.

Now you should be able to try importing into a NEW XTM game start.

Through all this, make sure you allow the converter to run and finish, it can take a long time if you are copying a large empire. Also read through the message log and see if it had any problems along the way before you go on. That will at least tell you something is burping from that vanilla save game.

Sorry if that's a lot of work but at least from then on all you have to do if a script/mod ever burps (as long as you have good working saves) all you have to do is copy your bakup files back into the X3 install folder, reinstall any mods/scripts and go back to your last good save. If you get all the mods/scripts you want working you can update your archive and never have to reinstall again. The plugin manager will always read your install and re-list the active mods.

I humbly defer to Symtech and the scripters if they recognize a simple fix here and then you can ignore my novel.

My X3 game and the saved games are A-OK. Besides that, would you please put the abbreviated version? The only thing I can think of is that it is this mod that is the problem.

Unless you were able to copy back into Vanilla there's no way to know if your logfile (log08758.txt) is not corrupt to begin with. Unless your text file has entries like this below, you never installed or ran the converter right from vanilla.

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?><language id="44"><page id="8758" title=" " descr=" ">
<t id="1">uG4RWO11111E8PU08X5Z8UGM8SP18.......</t>
<t id="2">s8E0VH0GP0JT00a00000n65cywF010KewB00A00xHQ SILICON L 71</t>
<t id="3">s8E0UD0Gd0Jf00Z00000n65SwB00A00ywF001XAxHQ ORE L 53 B</t>
<t id="4">s8E0Uc0H20IR00Y00000n65cywF010KewB00A00xHQ SILICON L 70</t>
<t id="5">s8E0WN0Il0KJ00Xm0000n63dwG012XAywB00K00xHQ SOLAR L 1</t>
You can't open an old save game in new XTM install to run the converter w/o likely corrupting. It has to be done in Vanilla first.

Unless you have a perfectly fine XTM install running before you try to run the converter there's no way to know if you already have an XTM problem.

If you say both those are fine, then the only thing I can offer you is that the XTM mod has some internal codes that both add and lock out non-vanilla/XTM content. And many mods/scripts/content cannot be used with XTM.

If you had any additions to your Vanilla game that are incompatible with XTM, then when the converter tries to bring them to an XTM install, it is going to crash or corrupt (readtexts).

You can check through the list here and see if you have any thing that just won't work.

http://www.thexuniverse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2479

That's all I can offer you, sorry.[/code]

As I said before, there is only one mod installed, and it is the egosoft official mod. Vanilla X3 runs good. XTM runs good. It is not X3's fault.

I tried the copy in Vanilla X3. It apparently didn't work.

Sorry then, it just works completely for me. If it isn't working in vanilla and the file you say has readtexts in it then your problem is beyond me.

You still haven't said exactly what happens (messages etc) when you run it, in vanilla. I would suggest to provide that info to Symtech.

Symtech, over to you.

Okay, we're gonna burn up more forum than they'll probably like.

Need to take this to Private Message.

Send me a PM. Tell me verbatim how you installed the converter? Did you manually copy the files or use the Plugin Manager with the .spk file?

The Controls-Interface screen is where you set all your in-game hotkeys from within the game. It's on the Quick Menu you get at the bottom of your screen.

I'll look for your PM
