Seems like an OpenGL issue mayhaps? Which granted would be more of a Linux problem, but if standard starts work fine I wonder if we can track down whats being loaded differently in XRM as compared to Vanilla?Xenicide wrote:For point 1 : Every time selecting custom start with striped image have this error :D1g1talDragon wrote: D1g1talDragon wrote:
First off, and above all else, thank you for supporting a Linux build of these games. Devs like you guys give me high hopes for the future!
Now to my issue. I have no problems running vanilla X3AP on Linux. I mean zero. It's awesome.
However, a 3,0 specific build of the XRM mod has recently come out, and I figured I'd try installing it on the Linux build, since I almost exclusively played on it under Windows X3TC/AP. Everything seems to work great as far as I can tell, with two issues:
1) XRM adds a few custom start scenarios. A few of them have the pilot portraits turning into a random set of vertical color bars that change every time you select them. Example: http://i.imgur.com/MWvr4RB.jpg
2) Many of the custom starts, when I move the selector to them, crash the game instantly. No error message if launched from the console. Just BAM, crash to desktop. Every other start I've tried so far works flawlessly.
I had a few posts in the XRM release thread, and the dev is looking into it as far as he can (nobody else there seems to run Linux), but I have been asked to also post here in case it is something related to the Linux port as well. I understand if you can't really do much past the vanilla port, just mentioning it in hopes that I can narrow the issue down.
Thanks again!

Well that sounds like the implementation of opengl on Linux doesn't support the dxt format used for the portrait images.D1g1talDragon wrote:New info on my issues with crazy portrait issues and crashes selecting new gamestarts under Linux! User Xenicide posted errors he is getting with the same problems using XRM with the Linux build. Copied below from that thread. Maybe some of this will help narrow it down. Thanks guys!

Looks like it has something to do with image compression.
Edit: Formatting.
Ooookey... Copied X3 & AP off my steam-folder, re-installing EVERYTHING.paulwheeler wrote:From your descriptions it seems as though x3 is not seeing the xrm tships. EDIT: tested, not Smart turrets.
The strange thing is that x3 seems to be reading the xrm text files, which it wouldn't if part 2 was incorrectly installed. That suggests a rogue tships somewhere.
OMG! Please tell me there is a way to get rid of that stupid controller overlay on the load screens?!?!
If a new game is OK, it must have just been a weird bug with the save.swatti wrote:Ooookey... When i load my old (started in 1.28 & patched to 1.29) save, i have the odd "placeholder" name for sale in Cloudbase shoutheast BUT when i started a new game, flew there and it was not sale. Did my save just go boo boo?
Where can i find the new ships exactly? If they work fine and everything else works, i may aswell "abandon" my save, re-start and cheat myself the same ships i had in my save. I dont mind the reputation-grind or re-discovering sectors ^^
Or if there just is some wierd bug there and everything else works, il just leave it there. Anyway, new ships: Where?
EDIT: i only run small mods like MDM, marine-repairs, SEWN, etc on top of XRM, none that alter or add existing ships.
Hooray! Thanks a ton, looking forward to trying it out.paulwheeler wrote:Well that sounds like the implementation of opengl on Linux doesn't support the dxt format used for the portrait images.D1g1talDragon wrote:New info on my issues with crazy portrait issues and crashes selecting new gamestarts under Linux! It should be fairly simple to fix - I just need to switch the format.
Are you using the No-Steam .exe for AP 3.0?joelR wrote:launcher is showing that my game is v 2.5.3 even though im using the no-steam .exe.
I have found that, if you have multiple copies of x3, the launcher shows the version number of the original installation.joelR wrote:This may be a tech support thing but the launcher is showing that my game is v 2.5.3 even though im using the no-steam .exe. I have updated the game through Steam and relocated the folder elsewhere on my drive.
Is this something to be worried about? Is it still launching 3.0 even though the launcher says my game version is different?
