Clean fresh install through Steam. And here's the part you tell me you can't support: Linux version of AP. Can anyone point to a way for me to try to get at least an error message after the crash or something? Launching through the terminal doesn't leave any message after the crash, which is quite unhelpful.

The game starts I CAN get to seem to work just fine, so I'm otherwise golden as far as I can tell. I just want my PP Hyperion!

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Just figured out I could Page Down to get through the menu. "Cunning Charlatan", "Formidable Freebooter", "Seriptitious Smuggler", "Xenon Rogue", "Advanced Start" all crash as well once moved to. I can't test a few due to not being able to maneuver around the land mines, but the trend does seem to be the new starts. Hmm...
That is very strange - I've never had a report like this before. All I can suggest is that you double check your installation.

Can you post a screenshot of your installation folder? That way I might be able to spot what is causing this.
X3TC Install folder:

X3AP addon Folder:

The extra cat/dat files in addon are as follows:
04 - XRM part 1
05 - XRM part 2
06 - XRM Cockpits
07 - Low Poly Asteroids
08 - Immersive GUI and HUD

I tried XRM alone in the clean install initially before adding those, and had the issue occur. I added them in figuring I could at least play other starts in the meantime. I also have a few scripts installed, namely M.A.R.S. and Bounce. MARS is using your fixed t file. Again, these were installed after the issue occurred so I could at least play around.

See anything obvious? I'm more then happy to be the test subject of whatever experiments you'd like to run. :)

Well since the game isn't actually running when it crashes you can rule out a script problem.

Is your base TC installation clean? Having a mod installed in TC and trying to run AP usually ends in a crash on the load screen.

Otherwise, I'm really not sure. Are you seeing lots of new ships on the load screen animation? It should begin with a Tempest flypast.

The only other thing I can think of is that your rig is having trouble with the graphics used for the xrm gamestart portraits. Ill check them tomorrow, but I think they are just standard jpgs.

As Paul says, it does not appear to be the mod itself causing the problem. The Linux port is still in beta, isn't it? Or, at least, it is very new. I suggest logging a bug report.

I am seeing everything else like new ships and stations and what not, even the PAR shipyards, so could I had installed incorrectly somehow, or is it something else?

I am out of ideas... perhaps Paul has some.
  • The reason that I asked how old your game is because there was a Hotkey Bug (AP) in games started prior to AP 2.1.

TC is totally clean. I never even launched it, only AP on this machine. I do see what I think are new ships on the title screen and in game, but I'm honestly not familiar enough with all of the games ships to say for sure. All of the other new stuff I can think of looking for seems to be there, and the scripts seem to fire just fine if I use another game start.

Well I would, but since everything but the custom starts and portraits seems to work fine, I'd think they would simply decide it's an XRM problem. I see your point and thought the same thing before I posted here, but given the very specific issues I'm seeing and the fact it runs flawlessly vanilla/modded without XRM, and all the old starting scenarios work flawlessly as far as I can tell, I would think there has to be a common thread within those files. The portraits I really could care less about, I'm just curious about where to begin looking to track this issue down.

If you guys are stumped and would simply not be able to support due to the Linux-y state of my particular build, I totally understand. It's hard to track down multi-platform bugs on these things. Had the same kind of situation with Crusader Kings II mods when they pushed a Linux build, and met with outright hostility when I asked about standardizing file name case in mod files so Linux users wouldn't have 10,000 edits to do before the game wouldn't crash. Just getting replys with suggestions here is above and beyond what I honestly expected. :)

Let me check the xrm portraits tomorrow - perhaps they are not in exactly the same format as vanilla. They work on the pc version, but maybe the Linux version is getting upset.

I am suggesting that it sounds like a bug in the linux port. Some array not counting correctly, perhaps. Works with vanilla list of starts, but not modified list? In any case, you should tell the developers so that they will be aware that there is a possible issue. Whether or not they do anything about it is up to them.

The hotkeys should be under the interface tab in the control options.

If you're not seeing them, then you have not correctly installed the xrm scripts.

You need to copy the scripts from the "scripts_AP" folder into the addon/scripts folder. You'll need to restart your game after doing this.

I hear ya. I'll figure out exactly how I'd want to present it once I get home tonight. Worst case scenario would be they decide they can't support a modded game (they have plenty of work put into simply making the port work vanilla).

Looking forward to any further ideas Paul. Thanks for the assist!

Edit: Posted on Linux port thread. Thanks guys.

Hey everyone what's up. So I'm just starting out Albion Prelude, just finished getting caught up to egosoft, felt I had to finish there other games. Anyway I was wondering about the plots and starts added by XRM, Does each one allow access to the sub-plots like shady business etc... and the two main ones, umm Terran Commander and Argon Peace Keeper, are they both disabled?

Also if anyone has the time and could give me a little background info on some of the other starts, or point me to a page that already goes over this, I love the amounts of choices and the keen ability to role play but it's a little overwhelming from the 5 or 6 choices I had with Reunion.

Ok. I installed XRM like I've done since 1.27 and for some reason. I'm not getting the correct intro screen. I'm getting the original AP screen. Although I see X Rebalance Mod under the title screen. Did I do something wrong? Or is there a new way to install XRM?

Steam does give you a key to register in the forum for X3TC, which you inevitable have, if you play X3AP. ;)
I appreciate the reply but it's basically useless. Nowhere in Steam does it let you view the cd keys for X3: AP, X3: TC or X3: Reunion. I've even launched the games to see if the key is hidden somewhere in the launchers themselves or main menus.

If you right click on TC in the games list on Steam, you will find the CD key is there. I did it just last night myself. AP does not seem to have one.

Does it need to be installed? I have no CD Key option even for TC.

It might, I don't know. All I can tell ya is AP doesn't show the option, but TC does. It should be right near the top of the list that pops up when you right click it.
