That's an interesting precis. And one that in my opinion is just a touch wide of the mark. My precis is "some customers complaining with valid comments / observations, mods accepting that but defending against some of the wilder comments, other customers defending Egosoft, and too much bluster".Dave242 wrote:This thread was a good read!

Egosoft, I am your customer, without me and others like me there will be no X universe, just crazy AI ships crashing into each other.
We may stop buying your game. Think about this. Who would you have to torture with your notoriously bad programming?

The missions are horribly imbalanced in almost every respect. It's not just up to what different people think is balanced. When you get billions for a few missions and millions (that's a thousand times less) from any other activity in the game, something's broken. Badly.
Now i just have to keep myself from playing the missions, since they are so badly broken, and this means i can't play a significant portion of the game. Well, right now i'm not playing it anyway, since i'm waiting for all the issues to be fixed, but you get my point.
If you really want to tailor the game so that you can buy anything in the universe in half an hour, you can just cheat. I don't see any reason to provide that opportunity in the default game, for it just makes it boring after a few days when you have 20 destroyers.

Speaking as a long term fan of the X series the problem is that Ego make no effort at all to address the serious issues. The same bugs, even ones fixed previously in patches, are born anew in each incarnation.Capt_Newbie wrote:It's good to be king. Wish I could say my piece and then lock the threadexogenesis wrote:Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Satires.
To the OP: one good thing about buying the game early is, you might get a few bugs, but at least you'll be reporting them when the bug fixing activity is at full tilt and everyone benefits from the input, whereas if it's something specific to your own computer, months later, Egosoft aren't going to be too worried about your plight. Address the issue now, and they might come up with a solution to your problem even if it doesn't end up on a patch.
Notorious short-comings, like a combat AI that would shame a pacifist amoeba, are just ignored. The functionality added in by modders to address the at best rudimentary factory and combat fleet controls in the previous version is ignored etc etc.
If they would just take the functionality of the final iteration of the previous game, including all the scripts and bonuses, as the starting point for the next it would be a start.
Instead it is the same old, 'tweak the graphics engine, change a few models' then sell it to the beta testers and wait for the modders to add back in real functionality.
Unfortunately it is the only game in town.

They've slapped a bit of a graphical interface over the top of the same old same old. nice to have but it is not a radical departure.Andaius wrote:You do realize with TC they changed a big part (UI, mission interface, and so on.) that pretty much makes what was used previously not compatable?
If the wing command worked properly I'd be excited. It's one thing to add an option to a menu and another to have it actually present and working.
Hell, at this point I'd settle for the half-baked 'follow' and 'protect' commands not to in reality be the 'ram repeatedly' command so I could order my M7 to escort my Colossus.
It would be nice if my Colossus could actually fight without me on board. If the Attack All Enemies command was not the 'Sit head on in front of a hail of fire from the Xenon K Until Dead' command.
etc.
Or if the save facility didn't disable flaks.
etc.

It's been costumer vs customer with the mods keeping the peace
The reason they are sent to Dev net is because if you want to be heard by the DEV this is where they will read it. It has been stated many times that this is how you do it. The Dev don't come here and read our threads.
I will still play in the X universe and what ever game that comes next. Egosofts a small company. If I have to wait for a year for the game to be patched, so be it. I'm confident the the X games will be supported long after that.

I have been playing X-Games since X2:The Threat yes they sometimes have bugs, but Egosoft unlike many many other developer's listen very well to its customer base, alot of the people who answer the questions on these forums carry no tags to identify them but they are part of the development team and will endeavour to fix issue's when they arise!
And another point about the bugs in all 3 X's I have played there has never been a complete game killing bug that has stopped me playing.
Egosoft works with small amout of employee's and provides a game that fills the need for many for a space sandbox with bit of plot on the side game that never seems to get boring and I and many other player's will continue to buy Egosoft games for as long as they keep making them.

This is what I object to!The reason they are sent to Dev net is because if you want to be heard by the DEV this is where they will read it. It has been stated many times that this is how you do it. The Dev don't come here and read our threads.
I am Egosofts' customer. Read this again. I am Egosofts' customer. They sold me a shoddy product. Why should I be ushered into another *controlled forum* to be heard?
Forget it.
Let's see how the 1.3 patch turns out. If it's bad, then we'll be back to square one. If it's good, I've still learned a very valuable lesson: NEVER buy version 1.0 of anything Egosoft.
They don't deliver on time, don't listen and don't keep us updated.
Simple.
Feel free to continue with your lemming behaviour...

Suggestions should go in the DevNet forums because it provides a reasonably controlled source of suggestions. Trawling the main forums for change suggestions is simply not practical.
Posts in tech support which actually are bugs get referred to the development team (as I understand it).
There's no particular point in developers reading every comment on how good or bad the game might be, although I'm sure someone at Egosoft takes note.

Apart from a few plot bugs and a problem with the UT ive not had any game stopping bug. performance is crisp with no lag and graphics on full.
90% of the "bugs" people are reffering to are minor annoyances at best if the game was CTD every 2 minutes sure thats a bug to moan about. ego has done a good job with this release as far as im concerned how many patches are out now 3? in what 6 - 7 weeks from release??
I have not kept track of dates cant even remember the release date ive been busy playing what some people refer to as an unplayable game
alot of games are lucky to get 3 patches at all especially games with no multiplayer.
relax and enjoy or go back to X3R til its more polished

Devnet is for submiting ideas to be added to the game or future games. If you have a suggestion you want to see in the game, then thats where you have to post.Dave242 wrote:This is what I object to!The reason they are sent to Dev net is because if you want to be heard by the DEV this is where they will read it. however, devnet is not for bug reports, if you have a problem with the game, then just post in the tech forum
If they didn't listen, then y have many ideas from the community been added to thier games, y have many of the problems reported by users been fixed in the patch ?Dave242 wrote: They don't deliver on time, don't listen and don't keep us updated.
Simple.
y have things been reblanced based on the customer suggestions ?
if they didn't listen, they wouldn't have been able to add in any suggestions.
Also, you have been kept updated, theres been lots of messages about a patch coming out, also there have been quite a few replies in posts saying things would be fixed in the next patch and asking for additional help to fix the bug.

Lots of people are reporting that it seems to help with performance issues and although I've not had any CTDs or performance problems myself, the response seems even crisper than it was before...

People need to stop asking for bug ridden missions and decreased performance in Devent.Cycrow wrote:Devnet is for submiting ideas to be added to the game or future games. If you have a suggestion you want to see in the game, then thats where you have to post.
I used to post in Devenet but the i realised its just ignored. I know there is a lot of suggestions there but they are often pointing to the same basic flaws in the game.
The lifeless dead universe.
Terrible economy.
The joke of an AI
The nightmare interface.
Instead we get new ships, weapons and graphics. Its nice to have them but the problems just continue with the new stuff.
1 last thing Cockpit view. I know a lot of people hated it and wanted it removed. So instead of the option to choose to have it or not its removed from the game.
While flying in my centaur i had a big pole sticking out the bottom of my screen that looks like some badly drawn gun from a FFS.
Scripts I use.

I really could have done without the HORRIBLE new control system, the existence of which damages the 'classic' control system, removing features which were present in the X3:R control system from the 'classic' controls. Most notably the ability to bring up the mouse cursor and use it to do stuff.
Lead me not into temptation,

Not that I am overly critical of X3's interface, but it *IS* the exact same interface as X3R. It just has some different graphics representing the exact same mechanisms.
Nothing is actually different. The only thing that has changed is the appearance. Everyone's problem is with the functionality of it, which has changed little.
This is an expansion pack, so I would not expect major changes in the interface. It is still the same game with some minor additions.
And crippled performance, even post 1.3. But that is a different complaint.
I too despise the changes to the flight controls. Classic mode does not even resemble X3R.
