It's much more like X3, with a better UI (not better as in bug free, but regarding capability and how flexible it is), better support for endgame with sector takeovers, similar graphics as in XR, and a smaller universe.
Imo it will catch up to X3 soon, once more content is released and it got some more polishment/bugfixes.

It also has a real nice station build/design interface if you're into that kind of thing.

Ship models lack variety and generally bigger ships look worse imo then in X3. Less AIscripts/commands compared to TC/AP, and still quite a few bugs ofc.

I assume you'd buy it sooner or later, question is how much later - 10% discount might be worth it if you aren't planning on holding back the purchase by half a year or so.
I've noticed it's now been reduced by 25%, like before it'll only be this way for a couple more days.
Probably worth a shot.
Though i had to stop playing after 2.0, game has some weird stability/sound issues plus some changes happened i really don't like. One of these are max trade range being reduced to 5 sectors, which means lots of trade runs have to be managed by hand, or you have to build lots of smaller stations scattered across other races space.
And a couple annoying bugs are not fixed since 1.0 which make at least larger scale combat pretty frustrating (but they hurt elsewhere as well).
Think 2.0 was a huge leap and the changes it brought would need well polished basics - i'd suggest checking on it at next dlc or 2.5.
Since there might be no discount until then it still might make sense to buy it (if the discount is still on), but save your gaming time for later when the game is better.

Wisest thing - unless you have fun paying to work as a beta tester - is to still wait. Most likely at least until the first DLC. How much better the game will be by then and if it's gonna already offer a fully fleshed experience is hard to say, but it's very likely the base game will be on offer at about -50% around that time, as it usually happens when such dlcs come out. The dlc itself is probably going to be, guessing from how much they charged for the Collector's Edition, at no less than 14.99$, more likely 19.99$. If *that* is gonna be worth the price is going to be a new good question in itself. Depends how much content will be DLC only (just the Split? More?) and how much will be freely released in the updated base game.

In any case, at pretty much any sensible price range it could reach right now, the game is going to feel at least somewhat disappointing to most players.

I paid full price and I have no regrets. Also I am poor and live paycheck to paycheck and sometimes have to dip into cc even when I am careful with spending. So don't call me a rich boy just because I paid full price. I think the game was worth every penny.

No, not at the moment anyways.

As a trader you'd be let down, the economy's a lie. It's citizens produce nothing and the ecosystem is entirely driven by exploding ships and AI factions that spawn money out of nothing.
As a explorer you'd probably still be let down. There are minor points of interest but they're all essentially the same, fly in, shoot a few things to unlock a lootbox. No strange/mysterious/unique ships or items to find, just a few static points of interests, what you see in the beginning is pretty much everything there is to see in the world.
As a builder you'd probably be let down. Sure you can build your own stations, but they're lifeless stations, civilian shuttles float about with no purpose or meaning, people stand around your station without a single purpose in life, you can't really walk around your station, and performance takes a huge hit with big stations.
As an empire builder you'd be let down. There's not much land or factions, the enemy of everyone is never quite a lasting threat and wiping them out just requires throwing endless units at them until they die. Everything's expendable since it's quite trivial to take down any ship from the smallest to the largest. Course also once you wipe out a faction you're killing off a potential source of income and just life with a giant void.
As a 4x game you'd still be let down by most or all of the above points.

Possibly a maybe if you really like flying in a "spaceship", quoted since there's little space about it and re skinned the game can be resemble quite a few things space or not. Though there are far better space combat sims out there, what you see is everything there is right off the bat. There's not much more depth asides from modifications which is really the only interesting customization in the game.

I would say no. Not as a reflection on the game itself, but because if you feel the need to wait for a discount in the first place 10% isn't going to leave you much better off.

Enough to spend a few hundred hours in... though of course depends what you expect of the game.

As a sandbox.... great!
If you expect a great story for playthrough... you won't find it.
+1
It's already better than XR after just 3 months and patch to 2.0.
For X-Rebirth I haven't touch it after initial release for over a year and had to wait even longer until 2.5 when it become playable (and actually fun).

I'm quite confident that by 3.0 X4 will have most of core issues and bugs resolved. Not to mention Split DLC coming soon after.
