I have this: https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeFor ... 4G-OC.html

It's a low-profile card with high-profile performance and probably best buy solution right now. Technically it is bellow minimal specs for X4, but it's running on medium details for me just fine. And the game looks really good even on medium (I'm running 1080p on 27" screen btw.).
I think there's also an Asus model.

I'm using an AMD R7 250 4GB that I've had for years. Not a single problem with the game after updating to the latest drivers (something I had not done for at least 2 years). I've seen them new on Amazon for under $50 US.

I would consider a good variant of the RX580 too, they can be found for almost sane prices again, depending on country. Downside is that amd are incompetent when it comes to writing drivers, upside is freesync and better price/performance (when found at non-inflated price)

My interpretation, from all I've heard so far about driver stability of AMD and NVidia: The grass is always greener on the other side (not in the Nvidia green sense :D). Or people are fighting over the greeniness of their grass.
After all, X4 has to deal with a Nvidia Vulkan Driver bug right now that let's you not deactivate VSync ;)

Also, 50 bucks for one? Something's fishy imo.
Ordered from Amazon once. PC security was compromised, my bank account was compromised, and I got a stern lecture from the security administrator. Took a whole lot of headaches to sort everything out. What's worse, the source of intrusions was state-affiliated so there was absolutely nothing I (or my security administrators) could do about it. Just had to "let it go"...

These "authorized resellers and services" are shady AF. Far too often mixed up in politics. Steer well clear and never put too much trust in oligarchs. If you cannot find the physical product you're looking for in-store, then order directly from the manufacturer and go pick it up yourself if you can.

It all depends on your profession and what you use your PC for I guess. People are a bit too careless these days though.

I only use reputable site - Bestbuy.com, smile.amazon.com, etc - and if I use Amazon, it MUST be a Prime listing. I ditched a GTX970 for twin RX580 Black Edition ($299 USD). The GTX970 is over 4 years old and there was nothing really wrong with it, but since I have a Sabertooth 990FX R2 board, and a FX8370 CPU, I thought I would be better to go with a "Full AMD" build. I built this PC about 4 years ago and so far, the performance is great with X4. The only component that died on me was the Corsair H115i Liquid Cooler. I've ordered a Corsair H115i Pro Platinum RGB to replace it. Should be here today. Currently, I'm running my laptop (Acer Predator Helios 300). This has the i7-7700, 16GB RAM and a GTX1060-6GB. Pretty smooth gameplay with the lappy too.

New card arrived, and is installed. Just a note to those using a 2gb graphics adapter: I *thought* I was seeing everything with my previous 2gb card, but now I know otherwise. And I think my random slowdowns were nothing more than my graphics card trying to use system memory... - Thank you to those who recommended the 1050ti. - It's a quantum leap forward from my previous museum piece... :)

Hey OP if you blew up a graphics card playing a game that means you most likely can and will blow up another.
Do you have some crappy chinese £20 psu that says its 750watt or however much? do you have a overheating northbridge chipset? or do you mean the card was old and died after a long life?

From my exp i've blown up a 8800gt because my nb chipset was overheating, i've blown up a 5870 because one of the fans died and the ramdacs overheated and died, I've had crappy cheap psus which had no where near the power they claimed and the 12v rail was unstable with less than 60% efficiency and that killed a 8800gts and two motherboards, and i've even done a dodgy psu wire mod which has blown up another 8800gts, and my most recent gpu a 780ti suddenly shit the bed and failed to work with anything 3d, the kernal would crash and be unusable no matter what which lead me to believe an element on the card had died.

Ah, it's a 3 year old PC with a below min spec card which simply came to the end of its life. PSU is a decent one (came with the CCL PC) but only 550watts, so that's why I was keen to get a low power replacement graphics card. I tend to avoid buying any parts that I can't confirm are genuine, and that's the main reason I started this thread (I was clueless about a replacement card.) So all is well now, but I accept it's just a question of time before I need a replacement PC.

I assume your video card is old? You might have a Warranty option on it still. Video Cards should never blow these days even at 100% day and night.

550w would have been suffiecient for a higher tier card than a 1050. A 1070 needs around 150w for itself, so with a 550w PSU there'd be enough left for the rest of normal system.

I think it was still under warranty (just under a month left) but I needed a better card anyhow. - I was surprised it blew too, and I'm very much a casual gamer; the PC is used for work over 90% of the time. I think (looking at the old card) it was a 2gb RX460 with two huge gigabyte-labelled fans. - I assume the card went. PC wouldn't even power up until I removed it, and then I had to throw in an ancient HD4670 from a previous PC to get a display of any kind. (The HD4670 had been a replacement for an 8800GTS that was so big, as I remember, it came with its own wheelbarrow... :)

And I think a 1070 would've been overkill considering how little gaming I do. :(

I own and use amd, nvidia and intel gpus. Amd have by far been the most troublesome on the driver side, specially on gnu/linux, but also on windows. Even for the 5xx serie which are just rebadged 4xx cards they failed to have working day1 support.. Downside with nvidia of course is their current pricing and lack of any usable free drivers.

I ended up returning the 1050ti I ordered as I found out that it wasnt enough of a step up from my gtx760.

The courier delivered a 1060 6GB for me this morning, looking forward to firing that up!
