Hi all,

My experience:

- No assigned crew as service or marines required
- Turrets not working only on captured ships... i bought ships and their turrets are working

The reason why (just my guess):

When you buy a ship, you are forced to assigne a captain to that ship, which is the major difference to a captured ship. The captured ship has no "visible" captain at all, unless you used a marine to capture the ship for you. You may fly to a shipyard and fire the captain or assigne him to an other ship. The captured ship has now a crew of zero. When you try to equip your captured ship and try to assigne new crew members, like a new captain, it shows that this captured ship already has a captain. This "invisible" captain may be trash-data of the captain that piloted the ship before you captured it, which messes up the turret scripts.

EDIT:
I tried something else now: I found a ship without any ownership. It was created by a mission, where you have to capture a ship in a mine field. Normaly i do this mission by sending marines to capture the ship. this time i took over the ship by scanning it. It turned green, indicating my owner ship, but i was not allowe to board it. Then i reloaded the savefile and sent a marine to capture the ship. Before it captured the ship, i manualy took over the ship and coudnt board it like before until the marine i have sent out before boarded it. Then i got a ship with full equipment. After swaping the mining turrets to laser turrets they were working against hostile targets.

In short:
1) unmaned ship found -> send a marine to capture it
2) Take over the ship personally before your marine lands
3) Wait for the marine to land, then turrets may work - needs further testing or a patch

Where icons??? :0) In my Mercury Vanguard I see three letters and 0 under my hud 'FLR 0'. Click on them...nothing. I also see a strange looking shape followed by three dots I thought it represents the pulse cannon status if present.

OP here, all the ships I actually bought since then had working turrets, however the ship in the screenshot and every other Minotaur Raider I captured has had disabled turrets (whether from HAT or SCA). The distinction is important, because regular argon Minotaurs are fine.

Basically, there's 2 problems being discussed here:

Confusion with regards to the UI

Actually broken turrets on at least the Minotaur Raiders (the pirate, 2 turret version of the Argon bomber Minotaur)

I had an issue with my captured Odysseus where the turrets didn't seem to work at all - the icons didn't even appear a the top of the screen. I think they worked fine when the ship control was delegated to the NPC captain though...

This needs to be in a tutorial. Or in the encyclopedia. So far I've been unable to discern from any menu in the game what those icons do.

I am using a bought Drill Vanguard with two mining turrets.....none of these work at all....I have 2 service and 2 marines as well as a backup pilot.

If I am in pilot seat, nothing works at all....I cannot target the asteroid to say: Mine Target.....which should be the case. You get a big fat - under the description Asteroid and it never changes at all...all asteroids cannot be targeted by myself in a manner that allows some sort of action against said asteroid...you can target it to see it bracketed but it does nothing for you.

If I let the backup pilot go and configure the ship to auto mine, then the idiot pilot starts whirling around and blasts a bunch of empty asteroids....so far I have not seen her gain a single ore piece yet while I was watching her twiddle around in the ship trying to make me sick by doing various loop the loop and barrel rolls - I watched in second view because otherwise I saw nothing happening....in second view I saw the turrets engage asteroids, but they were usually empty so having set my miner to auto-mine ore has been for nothing.

Now why does the stupid control NOT allow me to mine at all? You guys talk about the various controls......there are two sets of controls.....the lower ones deal with normal laser stuff...in my regard the single Pulse MkII gun.....the Mining Turrets are supposed to be controlled by the upper two icons.....and they show blue asteroid icon and below them the same icons that are utilized by the laser guns the weird bullet looking icon....and it never EVER goes blue as I ran right into an asteroid trying to go below 500m since that seems to trigger most things in game.....you can toggle the upper icons to swap between the asteroid to various other modes and the only option on the two icons below the asteroid ones is ON/OFF so I am very interested in knowing how the hell anyone has managed to get these to work (AS TURRETS not as guns) while YOU were in the pilot seat. I cannot do it at all....the ship will not do anything for me and when I let my Pilot-2 skilled Captain do it, she so far has not done a very good job with me in the cockpit (I am now wondering if you have to be out of the ship in order to get them to work properly)??? which sort of negates the fact that I cannot mine with my ship myself using mining turrets

As far as i know marines are for boarding only.. as for service crew, if you ship has too few of them, when you are docket in Wharf or Shipyard and try to update/repair your ship if service crew shows red, you don't have enough to operate your ship efficiently enough, so you have to hire more crew till it's in white text.

And about turrets, don't forget targeting/turning speed many of turrets have 90 degrees/s which is slow if you are maneuvering active + count in your target trying to out maneuvere you, they just can't catch it and those best dmg, projectile speed etc. are the ones who is slowest.. however still seems like you have to be in perfect angle for them to be able too shoot, which is pretty dumb and negates any proper use of turrets

Gonna hijack this since i got the same issue

@Linolafett

the issue is that no matter what mode i set, the guns remains the same even with red ships attacking me, they simply do not fire back.
top line all 4 i cycle doesn't work
bottom is either a cross out symbol or a grey out icon even at range.

how do you fix this?

can egosoft make a video on it working?

Turrets are broke, there been broke since release...

Any bailed and claimed ships turrets will not function at all on M size and is iffy on L/XL
