Re: TrackIR Support is Critical

Post by BigBANGtheory »

I was disappointed not to see TrackIR support from the start and although there is every chance it will come (just like it did with XR and X3:AP) if its going to be months away then that's all the game time and hours spent as a pilot without it :(

So yes I would agree that TrackIR support should be re-added asap pls, hopefully something Egosoft is familiar with now.

On the plus side, pleased that head movement is in and I will try to map that to the joystick PoV hat switch as the workaround and would encourage fellow TrackIR + Hotas users to do the same its not ideal but it does at least mean we can look around which is the main thing.

Fully agreed with the OP - TrackIR support is a must-have for any good simulation game.

I was honestly surprised that the game did not ship with native TrackIR support in v.1.0. Back in the days when I played X3 a ton I did not yet have the device so I don't know if it was supported back then already early on.

Usually, I can use the "mouse-joystick" on the Saitek X52 Pro Thruster as a stop-gap measure if TrackIR doesn't work in a game, however, said joystick is unfortunately not recognised by the game either...

There is no need for people to keep "+1"ing this. This is a feature we have already said that we plan to work on. We just didn't have the opportunity to do so before release, and right now we have some higher priority items to deal with. Rest assured, it's on our radar. :)

CBJ, are you allowed to say...

...is this something that needs some final testing and polish, or something that isn't coded yet at all?

That would certainly give us a better idea how long we're going to have to be patient.

The code is still there from XR. It just hasn't been enabled and tested with X4 yet. Doing that probably won't, in itself, take long; it's just that we can't start that until higher priority items, such as issues preventing people from playing or preventing them from progressing, have been dealt with.

Thanks, that's comforting to know that you guys won't start from scratch. I get the part about fixing gamebreakers first.

Thanks CBJ, i think most people or atleast a big chunk of people who play space and flight sims use TrackIR/VR and like alot of users said its really difficult to go back to not using it in a game that would benefit having it immensely.

At this moment, not only there is no TrackIR support, but no matter what buttons/hats I assign on my Saitek X56 Rhino to looking around, nothing. So in the heat of battle I have to let go of the hotas and start hitting the numpad keys in order to look around. I hope that at least the latter can be considered an important issue.

I assumed after the previous title had TrackIR, that this version would have it baked in from the get go. Very disappointed it doesn't, and probably won't bother having a proper go until it does -- most first person games/sims without it are just too frustrating.

I'm glad to hear that support is coming. For me, not having it is like wearing a neckbrace. I do understand you're in triage mode right now, and you have my patience. I didn't intend for this thread to provoke some of these rude posts. You guys did a phenominal job on X4. I'm having a blast and I've been giving it good reviews on every site I can.

I have the same issue too, though I've not tried mapping the joystick controls to the default numpad view bindings yet.
