Could the people for whom it did work, please also specify their CPU/GPU? Maybe we can figure out a pattern for the cases where it didn't work.
I get this problem on my linux desktop too, and setting CPU affinity with taskset or renice-ing doesn't solve this issue. There are at least two other reports in the linux support thread, too.

CPU: Intel Q9550; GPU: Radeon HD4870

Works fine on my laptop though (w/ Intel i5-3210M).

game: Albion Prelude (GoG version)
mods: Litcube's Universe
CPU: phenom II X4 B50 3.5GHz
GPU: R9 270
driver: 15.3
OS: win 10 x64

Affinity-changes helped a little with menu performance, but total fps is still very poor.
Tried to use atiumdag.dll from older driver but game crashed every time.
BTW, using my previous gpu (gts 250) I got much more fps even without CPU overclock.

"Tried to use atiumdag.dll from older driver ..."

IIRC, that driver hack only worked well with the HDxxxx series AMD cards, and not with the newer R7/R9 series. Also that older dll will always crash with Win10.

Yeah, jackpot is mine. Hope devs will deal with it. In future. Maybe. :(

Great fix the RadeonPro tweak. Had to RMA my 970, now running smooth on a r7 250.

There is now a Public Beta of an updated version which should hopefully fix this problem, finally. :)

So what was causing the issue then (if you don't mind me asking)? :)

There was a particular graphics-related action that was being performed many times when drawing the UI, which caused no problems with NVidia drivers or with older AMD drivers, but which suddenly became ridiculously slow for some people with certain combinations of recent AMD hardware and drivers. We only managed to reproduce the problem fairly recently, but once we did it turned out to be relatively easy to fix; we just perform that particular action less often!

Blimey, that may explain the issues I was having with my AMD GPU... I swapped to an nVidia based laptop and the problem went away.

At least you guys replicated and fixed it. :)
