I can't help thinking back to what little pre-release information we got where the developers were so enthusiastic about Rebirth. It's now obvious that they knew it was broken and I can only draw the conclusion that what was happening amounts to deception.

I keep coming back to see if Egosoft make a post declaring a total U-turn and suggesting that the game will get a radical overhaul but I'm not holding my breath. I've given up on Rebirth and am enjoying another run in X3TC instead (it really is a remarkable game and with AP is probably the last great X game we'll ever see).

What I don't get that the new features of X:Rebirth when you delve into them you see features similar to the features you get from the TC/AP Bonus Pack that the Vanilla games didn't have.
Like the MK Booster introduced into the Skunk as the Boosters we see now. The ability to have your own employees which we had with the Commercial Agent Software, better Station Building with managers running it instead of using the command slots.

They've added features that modders added which made the previous X Games awesome; now people are complaining because they "Changed their beloved game".
Putting aside the mass of crazy bugs, crashes and FPS faults it boggles the mind that they gave people here what they wanted and they're not happy?
look a little harder.

Usually a starting point for anything doesn't rank 32/100 on metacritic after 7 professional reviews..... and is thus one of the 5th lowest ranked games sold on Steam.
The trouble is despite the statements by Egosoft there were still a lot of people blinkered into wanting X-Rebirth to be X4 (or believing it would be) and the trouble with end-user reviews such as Meta-Critic is perhaps they were jaded some-what by this want. Certainly some of the end-user reviews that I have read seemed to be biased that way.

Another factor that probably did not help the Meta-Critic score was the overall software quality of the release. Spilt milk now and they are doing their best to clean up the mess and put things back on track, but it will not happen over night.

They told us to our faces that 'this was the next game in the series', with a 'better UI' and 'all the depth and complexity fans of the series expect', with a 'single ship to customise'.

Not one of those statements is true apart from the first.

They mentioned drones.

They did not mention they don't work and that the co-pilot they bragged about does nothing so your ship sits dead in the vacuum while you pilot them.

Not one feature was as described.

And no - they did not tell us it would be a feature-missing, feature-broken alpha release either. Nope. Re-read all the Newsletters and not a mention.

This had nothing to do with false expectations and everything to do with deceptive marketing.

I certainly did not expect this to be X4. I expected it to be a less complicated and much faster version of X3 with more immersion ;P But as usual promises, hope and expectations do not meet up. I figured it's Egosoft, they knew why we bought X3. And you can mess around with a lot of stuff in X3 without annoying too many people. X3 was never perfect, it has many flaws (AI, anything post M6, boring exploration, slow inter-sector travel, jumpdrives not standard etc.)

I guess I am saying.. let's hope Egosoft does X4 and forgets Rebirth ever existed.

I was excited to buy rebirth within 24 hours of it's release. It's completely broken. It's still broken after three patches. Seriously, I couldn't get past the title screen (invisible mouse). After spamming all the keys I'm rewarded with a spinning camera. Imagine if I got an hour in the game. You guys and introversion were/are my hero's. Introversion released an alpha and got continuous feedback on their latest game before release. You guys hit F7, the compiler said 0 errors and you said "Ship it!". And for the forum people that tell me to just wait or read the support forum and do this and that, it's 2013 not 1997 where I need to mod an .ini file and boot in DOS mode.

GG!
Ever thought of reading the forum you post on once in a while, hmm?
