I actually cant get over the fact that more than 50% are against steam. I find that significant, even with this few votes.

I was expecting 10% to be against steam. Or in otherword, I was expecting to be in minority.

I've a number of games that force me to use Steam and in general it is ok, but if given the choice I'd rather avoid it.

Having to HAVE a working internet connection every time I play is a liability, no matter how trivial this is these days; and I still prefer keeping a physical disc on the shelf rather than having to download gigabytes every time I do a reinstall.

Huh? You don't need an internet connection to play games on steam lol, you only need internet connection for achievements and updates.

And I prefer being able to download it whenever or where ever I am, because if you lose a disc or damage a disc, you have to buy another one.

I've never lost or damaged a disc.

With the exception of those I deliberately threw in the bin, or snapped in half.

This is a path I'm not prepared to walk down. My interest in Rebirth ends here.

Just to put it in perspective, once we get to 100 votes, the margin for error starts to drop to something meaninfiul- It is around 10% at that level.

This is normal. More so when the demographics (many 30+ gamers) of this forum is considered. When "Fallout: New Vegas" was announced as going Steamworks there was the same kind of threads being spawned. Even better most of the haters ended up pre-ordering the game anyway. I would be very surprised if even 50% of those that claim they won't buy XR because of steam will be able to keep that vow. They'll just won't pay full retail.

i don't really mind steam, i just don't like having to have it running at the same time i play.
I might need those extra resources for the game.

i voted just for activation though with 2 previsos

1 i dont need anything but a current e mail adress (changable if i re install with a new internet service previder)

2 i can then remove steam from my pc and install patches the old way

if not my vote should go to never touch steam

the main problem with the poll, like any poll, is only the people who feel strongly about it will vote.

that means that most who dont like steam will come to vote, but those that dont really care either way, prolly wont even look

I dont mind that Cycrow.

Just knowing that 19 other people feel the same way as me, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy instead of feeling like an outcast.

If the poll just points out how many people dont want steam, then its doing a good thing.

How many people dont care, isnt anything I am particularly interested in. Dedicated pollsters and statistics people may need it, but I dont.

Whenever I'm hot under the collar I always let off a little steam :)

Crappy jokes aside, should XR be under steam's controlling grasp then my money stays in my pocket and I continue playing my current TC game.

Trying to understand the steam hate. . . .

I just don't get it, thus far as far as I'm aware the only hideously invasive DRM comes from Ubisoft, who I tend to avoid like the plague.
I have never had much of a problem with Steam in terms of DRM and have never had a problem playing a game offline thus really can't understand all the hate it gets.

I only have one minor issue with it:
- I have an instinctive objection to being advertised at via the client every time I want to play a game.
However you can bypass this fairly easily to load direct and to be honest Steam can be extremely convenient and incredibly cheap when they have a sale, steam sales and discounts have probably cut the amount I pay for games by half . . . these two things on balance are probably a more than fair payoff for sitting through a little advertising.

Looks like most voters don't like Steam, this is a good thing. :D

Actually I bought it on the XBox instead...

I love steam, if I can help it I no longer buy physical discs.
Exceptions are there though, for instance if the CE has anything shiny I like.

Settings > Interface tab

Uncheck the bottom box. It's been years since the steam client threw up an unsolicited advertisement in my face.

Just like I've never lost or broke a phone, doesn't mean it can't happen.

So you only paid more money for a version that can't be modded. Just saying....
