I've a number of games that force me to use Steam and in general it is ok, but if given the choice I'd rather avoid it.
Having to HAVE a working internet connection every time I play is a liability, no matter how trivial this is these days; and I still prefer keeping a physical disc on the shelf rather than having to download gigabytes every time I do a reinstall.

Huh? You don't need an internet connection to play games on steam lol, you only need internet connection for achievements and updates.Charlie Whiskey wrote:I've a number of games that force me to use Steam and in general it is ok, but if given the choice I'd rather avoid it.

And I prefer being able to download it whenever or where ever I am, because if you lose a disc or damage a disc, you have to buy another one.

This is normal. More so when the demographics (many 30+ gamers) of this forum is considered. When "Fallout: New Vegas" was announced as going Steamworks there was the same kind of threads being spawned. Even better most of the haters ended up pre-ordering the game anyway. I would be very surprised if even 50% of those that claim they won't buy XR because of steam will be able to keep that vow. They'll just won't pay full retail.

I dont mind that Cycrow.
Just knowing that 19 other people feel the same way as me, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy instead of feeling like an outcast.
If the poll just points out how many people dont want steam, then its doing a good thing.
How many people dont care, isnt anything I am particularly interested in. Dedicated pollsters and statistics people may need it, but I dont.

Trying to understand the steam hate. . . .
I just don't get it, thus far as far as I'm aware the only hideously invasive DRM comes from Ubisoft, who I tend to avoid like the plague.
I have never had much of a problem with Steam in terms of DRM and have never had a problem playing a game offline thus really can't understand all the hate it gets.
I only have one minor issue with it:
- I have an instinctive objection to being advertised at via the client every time I want to play a game.
However you can bypass this fairly easily to load direct and to be honest Steam can be extremely convenient and incredibly cheap when they have a sale, steam sales and discounts have probably cut the amount I pay for games by half . . . these two things on balance are probably a more than fair payoff for sitting through a little advertising.

Uncheck the bottom box. It's been years since the steam client threw up an unsolicited advertisement in my face.
