Mel informed me we were 10km's from the north gate in Argon prime... i must of dosed off to sleep. The hole asteroid thing had felt so realistic, but it had been a long day i guess. I stood up and stretched.. my nice captains chair had given me back ache. I wondered out into the kitchen area. The kettle was still warm, result i thought, maybe i'll have time to drink my brew before we go through the gate.i leaned up against the teladianium paneled side, wondering about the dream while waiting for the kettle to boil.
Brew made i decided to go back to the control room. as i sat down, the computer beeped... i already knew what it was.. sure enough.. the computer was telling me i had a new message on the interlink system. i clicked on the read message icon.."where are you headed know ? i've heard there's some big profits to be made in teladi sectors at the moment." without thinking I hit the message reply button; "I'm on my way to Herron's Nebula."
i was starting to feel a little freaked out, i'd heard of deja vu, but never experienced it myself. i already new what the replied message said, so i decided i'd make a change to my schedule, found argon one on my radar and headed off in it's direction. Mel informed me of my new course heading and gave me an approximate time of arrival, the 10 minutes seemed to just dissapear and as i looked out the main window, Argon one was all i could see. I opened a Com channel to the Captain.
" what can i help you with " was his reply.
wow, i thought to myself.. maybe someones taken a chill pill since our last encounter.
"i'd like to know some information reguarding space fuel and why it's illegal" i asked.
"It just is" hollared the captain and continued " Why are you wasting my time with such stupid questions"
well...i guess the chill pill hadn't worked then.
"sorry to of bothered you.... Sir.." i replied sarcasticly and closed the comm channel.
i set the north gate as the target again and wandered off to my living quarters to fetch my pillow. The captains chair might not be comfortable, but it's mine..and i can't afford another one at the moment. i chucked the pillow onto the chair, then wormed about till i was nice and comfortable, then set about changing mels volume level.. i knew where it was, i'd seen it in the dream.
The gate to Herrons Nebula made my mercury look tiny and as the ship started to slip through the event horrizon, everything felt all strange and light. seconds later we were rematerialised in Herrons Nebula. i got mel to scan for asteroids.. but there we none for a good few kilometres. now that was strange.. the only part of the dream not to have been real. i set target for the Argon Trading station.. i wanted a better chair, this one was starting to annoy me.
i checked the radar, there were alot of fast moving ships about, maybe they were running space fuel to somewhere i thought to myself....
Excuse the cynicism lol, again really enjoying the more laid-back style. Really this is the first post I've made on this, but I've been following it with a lot of enjoyment. Keep up the good work!
i slowly guided the huge mercury into the docking lane of the Argon trading station and backed the power down to the 40kms speed limit. I really hoped they had some better chairs in this place.
The docking clamps made a dull thud as they magneticly attatched themselve to the side's and hull of the merc. As i walked out of the control room, Mel informed me that the docking clamps were secure, late as usual i thought to myself !. I headed off the ship and to the nearest ship equiptment zone and started browsing through the chair section. After spending maybe 20 minutes just sitting in one chair i decided i wanted that one, big comfortable cushions, reclining leg supports and everything, although, for a staggering 799 credits, it wanted to double up as a bed too !
i handed them my docking pass, and my trader card for them to take the direct payment. i wandered round the station, it was interesting to walk around for once rather than heading straight to the station managers quarters to see what sort of bargains i could pick up. As i wandered into the main hall of the station, i looked around and it reminded me of a picture of my great great great grand father on a planet known as earth, standing in a massive complex of shops all in one building. Things back then must of been strange, confined to driving vehicles on the ground and only specialists could fly after many years of intensive training. Life had certainly progressed since his times, everyone was entitled to fly, and even on my home planet of Argon prime hardly anyone used a vehicle with wheels on it.
As i continued back down to the docking zone of the station i noticed they had a huge automated board showing the prices of there most traded resources. One of them Caught my eye, this station bought space fuel. I almost ran back to the mercury, hoping that my new chair would of been installed in the time i'd spent browsing and generally looking round the huge Argon trading station. As soon as i got back on board Mel informed me that my new equiptment had been instaled and the credits had been transfered from my account. Heading towards the command room at a quickened pace, i suddenly realised.. all this rush, i haven't had a brew in atleast an hour, there's always time for a brew i told myself and headed towards the kitchen.
5 minutes later, brew in hand, i walked into the control room. My new chair beckoning me to sit on it, which i did and it felt good. I sent my thanks to the stations docking team for an excellent job with fitting my new chair. The ship lifted as the docking clamps released and i headed straight towards the docking lane, pushing my luck at nearly 50kms, i wanted to see just how much money could be made from selling space fuel..
The lights of the docking lane blurred past and as i neared the end of the lane i accelerated to maximum speed. As soon as i was clear of the docking lane mel informed me we were clear - so much for super computers !, i got searching on the navigation system for the space fuel complex and set it on the auto-pilot. i shuffled about in my new chair, enjoying every comfortable second of it, so much so, that i could feel my eyes starting to droop. i couldn't go to sleep yet, i wanted, no needed, to know what the deal was with space fuel.
Making best possible speed, it would take another 15 minutes, not too bad i thought to myself as i looked at my empty cup, 15 minutes is long enough to make another brew and even have a spot of dinner. i headed down towards the kitchen deciding wether to have a meatstake cahoona, a meatstake cahoona or, a meatstake cahoona, descisions descisions i thought to myself, as i ripped open a twin pack and threw them onto the hotplate. The kettle boiled just after i flipped over my meatstakes, which were smelling rather tasty, and i made myself a brew.
i decided it would be best to sit on the floor again, after Mels previous outburst, and ate every bit of the meatstakes. Mel informed me that we were 10 minutes away from the space fuel complex, so i thought i'd best clear up and head back to my big comfy chair.
Looking out of the window in the control room i could see we were heading through some kind of asteroid field, i looked down at the computer screen, then looked straight back up again... something flashed passed the window, i was sure of it. sure enough... 10 seconds later, another green flash. i checked my radar. There were two Argon Police vessels about 400 feet above me. I opened a comm channel to the lead ship.
" Whats going on, what are you shooting at ?" i asked
" Mind your own business trader boy, attend your business and we'll do ours" the lead pilot replied.
charming i thought, i guess arrogance and big ego's are a must when you join the Argon military.
The streaks of green light continued flickering across infront of my ship. I wasn't taking any chances and cut the engines. Almost instantly, another vessel appeared on my radar - he was hiding under my ship making him almost invisible to radar. The two Argon police vessels swooped round and with a large barrage of fire, the other vessel errupted into flames. My radar started beeping, what now i thought to myself.
There was a small dot on the screen, maybe 3 kilometres infront of my vessel i selected it with the targetting system which was included in the basic ships system package and headed towards the dot. I had a quick look through the ships computerised help program which was about as much use as a chocolate tea pot, but i eventually descided i'd take my chances and stop next to it, thinking that if i opened the cargo bay doors, the vacuum would suck what ever it was inside my cargo bay, for me to inspect as soon as i'd docked.
At 2 kilometres distance from the target, i turned the engines to low power, it would take another kilometer and a half to come to a full stop, but i didn't need to completely stop, just slow enough to give me time to get the cargo bay open.
500 metres, i was quite excited by this point, i was turning into a space pikey !!
Sensors all round the control room started going postal, a message flashed up on the computer, warning me that the cargo bay was open. I pressed some buttons on the computer screen and set up a scan of the cargo hold to run every 30 seconds.
When the computer told me that the cargo bay was re-pressurised i headed straight down there, leaving the ship on low speed so i knew it wouldn't crash into anything, we'd already cleared the asteroid field and i could see the space fuel complex.
The lift to the cargo deck seemed to take forever to reach it's destination, as soon as the door opened, i headed straight into the hold. A rather delapidated looking machine of some kind was laying on it's side. Cool, i thought to myself, i've just depressurised my cargo bay for a big old chunk of metal. I headed back up to the control room and set a course for the Argon Trading station i'd not long left, one of their engineers would know what that thing in the cargo bay was and would also probably know how much it was worth..
Good call SOTS, i'm really enjoying this story, so get back to it Orion! Lol. I'm actually doing something similar to this at the moment in game, so it's nice to visualise stuff like the interior of my mercury.
