I am at the moment compiling an independent automatic installation of the xtended mod and lots of the most popular scripts from these forums(and I mean lots). The scripts and the mod have not been changed in anyway, just combined into a single, easy to use, installation. I am doing this for the very reason that was stated in the first post. People new to either X3, or to just scripting and modding, are often put off trying these excellent extensions and additions to X3 due to the sometimes complex nature of installing multiple scripts or mods. This package will only have stuff in it that works and works well, both independently and as a whole. Hopefully this will encorage people new to this scene to have a go 'cos there is no hassle.

A list of included scripts ect. will be posted sometime over the next 2 weeks in the scripting and modding forum. If anybody sees their script and does not want it included for any reason, please say so on the thread I will be placing there. About 2 weeks after this thread is placed the package will be available for download with appropriate exclusions if needed.

I like the way XFP does this, but it is designed to be a group of scripts that work with XFP and in some cases are designed for XFP. I think Morgothporter has a more general script set in mind that are not necessarily to be used in any mod. Not a bad idea IMHO.

You are exactly right. This pack is to be a general script pack. All scripts are separately downloadable and installable. The only purpose of this pack is to simplify this process for people who are not usually (for whatever reason) confident enough to do this normally.

(It's also to save me time if I have to reinstall X3 for any reason  )

(I think it took me 18 month of X2 before looking at scripts)
Awesome! I've been looking at X3 for several days now and finally purchased it over the 'net (arrives Wednesday), and have been hoping that it's one of those games that you can get ALOT of play-time out of. I was a bit disappointed with my most recent purchase (Company of Heroes), in that I finished it so quickly. Has everyone found this to be the case with X3: Reunion (that you get months and months of play-time w/o getting bored/sick of it)?

As for the topic at hand, I completely agree and although I'm familiar with mods, being new to the game it would be great to see a list of "must have" mods. As has been stated, some mods unbalance the game, or can be buggy, or are just generally not very useful. As for waiting 18 months before looking at mods, I personally would rather get mods right away, especially if they "fix" or "enhance" the original game release. Many mod authors come out with mods to address what they feel are shortcomings in the original release, and playing with them right from the get-go can make the game that much more enjoyable.

I'm sure I'm not alone in these feelings, and although there's now an "officially supported Bonus Pack" of mods, I'm sure this small handful of mods are not the only ones here that can be great additions to the X3 gaming experience. This forum definitely needs some kind of list of "Must-Have" mods (ones that are proven stable and working with the latest patch, do not unbalance gameplay, and make the gameplay experience better/easier/more enjoyable in some way).

The problem with a list of must have mods, is that its all down to oppioion, everyone thinks different mods and scripts are must have, so if you make a list of al lthe mods everything think are must have, u'll end up with a list simlar to the community scripts sticky.

however, there is some discussion about what ppl think are the best mods here
