Not so, it's perfectly possible to release a game without a publisher so long as there are plenty of people who want to buy it, therefore it's in all our interests to publicise X2 as much as we canThe Doctor wrote:Well at the end of the day, if there is no publisher, there is no game. Simple.

That's not quite what was said. The Doctor wrote: Well, they never said in the latest X news that it was going to be out in March, just completed.
And not before March can mean any month, starting with April, at least in my understanding.X-News 8 wrote: We can tell you that it will not be available before March 2003

Absolutely the 'games' retail sales are having a bumper year like you say driven by console sales, pjknibbs wrote:Eh? I thought the games market was actually doing pretty well this year, albeit driven mostly by consoles.robroy wrote:Retail sales (in general) across europe (especially in germany) are low, could this be a cause for concern to publishers buying into games ? bearing in mind that space games are usually seen as a niche market.
i was just considering if i was wearing the hat of a publisher then looking at the whole picture of retail sales it is a risky period to take a chance with a niche pc game,
on the other hand games like Mechwarrior or Freelancer with the backing of mighty microsoft might seem like a surefire success especially when you look at the level of exposure these games are getting when you visit any game site.
I also think and agree with the earlier poster that a christmas release would have been a mistake getting lost in the rush

I think publishers are holding off investment or promotion of games till march at the earliest only to see if things pick up on the retail front

If you look at the states or japan even (second largest economy next to the states) things are not lookin good for media entertainment worldwide.
However nothing lasts, ups and downs who needs them ?

Oops! Sorry, it all sounds the same.carran wrote:I guess you mean me, Caruso / carran
It all depends upon whether your cup is half full, half empty or the wrong size cup!
Believe me, X2 will be worth the wait, though I wonder how long it will be before the posts wanting OU arrive...
karen and carran sound exactly the same. Have an idea for future though, if a word needs spelling like Carran, if I get it wrong that is, could it be spelt like this? c a r r a n because then would hear the individual letters.
Again, apologies!
Was wondering where Caruso had dissapeared, the forum not let you use your old name ? i see a lot of peeps changed their namecarran wrote:I guess you mean me, Caruso / carran

Some nice German chap has taken the name - and never used it - which is why I'm stuck with carran - an old UNIX username!robroy wrote:Was wondering where Caruso had dissapeared, the forum not let you use your old name ? i see a lot of peeps changed their namecarran wrote:I guess you mean me, Caruso / carran

I for one am not dissapointed that we have to wait for this game for the simple fact that weather they are holding of for the market to pick up or not it alows them to go back have a wee look and fix or add new things that they might have overlooked due to time restraints and official release dates known to others.
Just look at GTA3 for the PC they rushed it out so quickly they didnt even bother to test it on all types of systems which caused a lot of people (me for one) not to get the best enjoyment out of the title due to choppy gameplay all because of one feature they believed to be a great addition but was pretty much no use to anyone.

It seems THQ is a favourite with financiers in the publishing world of games, nevertheless this makes for interesting reading regards target sales / release dates

i'm sure that if the mags give x2 a decent rating the publishers will come out of the woodwork
it doesn't worry me in the slightest
unless that is, everybody around here who's had a sneeky peek is talking bolloxs, something i doubt.
@karen, it suits you much better anyway
