Edit: Sorry, misread your question. The demo has to be copy protected to ensure that the game executable is encrypted in the same way as the full game. Unprotected demo executables are one method used by pirates to break the copy protection for full games.
Roger that! Makes perfect sense! Thanks! :)

Has anyone who played the beta got any hints. Its been ages since i played x2, and while the demo plays fine for me on lowest levels with 512MB of ram, i wanna upgrade to 1 gig for the full game.

So, any demo hints and tips would be awesome! :D

Sure don't want to say anything about all the hard work you all do. I know you all do your best, and try to give it all.
There might be something wrong with the demo I downloaded. Or atleast my download. I have the game ofcourse, just had nothing to do. Anyway I put it on my x64 partition, which the full game works fine on. But I keep losing my 01.dat file, I notice it after it crashes. I don't lose it all, it's still there, just at 0 bytes. Then the game (demo) needs to be reinstalled, if you don't have the 01.dat that's over a gig. After reinstalling it several times, I made a backup of the 01.dat and transfer it after the game crashes. But I keep losing the info in the .dat file minutes after playing it .

I was looking forward the the constant ka'ak invasions, but I can't get ten minutes into it before it crashes.

Have you all had any problems like that? Is there an update to the demo I don't know of? Or do I just need to redownload it?

I'm confused why I can play the demo and communicate with players without having any audio/video lip sync errors but in the retail game it's so out of sync it makes me not play the game. Movies play fine but player video communication is horrible.

This is a very unusual problem and was unknown until today. Unfortunately you do not appear to be the only one having this problem. We are looking into it.

In the meantime, could you try to mark the file as "write protected" in Windows Explorer and see if that prevents the file from being reset to 0 bytes?

I had that as well! (I am kind of lingering in this forum still), I was impressed by te graphics, but still doubtfull if I should buy a game where the demo shows that its pretty buggy, so ill take the advice given by a few people in another thread and wait with buying the game until I hear some positive sounds after the 1.4 patch is released.

Everyone affected by the 0 Byte 01.dat file / File Not Found issue, please download the hotfix from our demo download section (don't worry, it's very small)

Direct link:
http://dl1.egosoft.com/X3PDemo1.3.1_HOTFIX.exe

An updated demo installer will be available soon.

EDIT:
No, there is no new music in this demo.

EDIT2:
Link fixed, sorry about that.

That's pretty much the first time I heard of Demo having a patch, no beta test on it?

@Titanx3
I bought missiles and drones although I never needed nearly the ammount I bought.

Thunderbolts are fire and forget Khaak M3 killers (range I have no idea but I used them upto 20 km away)
Tempest are equally adept in taking out Khaak M4's.

And drones.....use em tell em to stop and scoope em back in. (in short fights that is)
