We watch each other.

Hence: I haven't posted my opinions in this thread, despite wanting to on several occasions. Whist eladan is a moderator, I hope it's clear enough that his views posted in this thread are his own and not representative of an official 'Egosoft' of 'community' viewpoint.

No, it wasn't. Any such news will be metaphorically 'shouted from the rooftops' so it's really a waste of time asking.

Vayde wrote: It has been suggested that Ego don't have limitless resouces when developing the software. I dissagree. With the thousands of beta testers they get for free on each new release suggesting changes for the game, that would seem to be unlimited.
i think you are missing the point, if egosoft lack the resources the fix the problems, then how is adding thousands more testers going to help with this ?

even if they can find and report more problems or changes, egosoft will still have the same number of ppl that are fixing them with even more to do.

reporting bugs or suggesting ideas is the easy part. Actually fixing them and adding them to the game engine is what takes time, and its this that has a limited number of ppl working on

Wow, some post.

Just a few comments.

Considering the huge complexity of the game, I’m totally in awe of the achievement.

I haven’t had any game breaking bugs. Only minor ones.
Terran missions completed okay.
Goner missions completed okay.
Final fury coming up next…..

I’ve died far more times crashing through gates / my own ships than by enemy action but that’s hardly a bug.

A few slowdowns with the big missions, need to find these missions in border sectors, empty sectors, no roids, and then its okay. I like the mad odds as well, screen full of enemy ships, its taken me weeks to think out good strategies for tackling it, and last night it paid off 2x v.hard simultaneous sector patrols DONE. SORTED over 2hrs. HUGE fun doing the impossible. Again hardly a bug to complain about...

My biggest gripe is the Hub mission, I’m nearly done with the game, got 600mil, M2, M7M, M7 etc yet only half way through the crystals phase with 370,000 to go. It should have been 1/10th of what was needed. I would have loved to finish this mission and see my shiny new PHQ. I’m a real fan of this game, but do I really want to build another 50 chip plants plus 50hrs of seta !!!

I’m nearly done with the game
:? Really? You think the game is just the plot missions? HAH! You've just begun to play. And why SETA? There's tons to do without waiting on SETA. :P
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

All eyes front then :)

I guess that 2nd part is a general 'forum procedure' quote,
you don't mean 'you' as in me, do you?
cos I've no problems here with opinions the being stated.

As a general rule, if a moderator wants to say something to you specifically, they will send you a PM. Otherwise it applies to 'you and everyone else'. Rather than us having to specify this in every post, it's best you assume this to be the case unless it obviously isn't. If you're really no sure, then send them a PM to ask. There really isn't a need to ask in the open forum (it's spam to all but two people).

You omitted the time needed for figuring out the actual bug based on the haphazard bug reports. Sometimes a player (and I assume betatester) can point out the exact line causing a bug in a script, but there is no way to be that helpful with hardcoded issues.

OT: Was it not so that every occurrence of "when" on forum entitles the postponing of next release by a day? :P

That make release date June 09 then.
(Actually I wouldn't complain even then - it's 'free')

I agree, I'm treating the Hub/PHQ as a long term goal that can rumble on in the background. I am assuming this is the intention, which is fine by me. In fact I would have liked several more long term goals. As someone who builds stations because I simply feel I should rather than I want to, this long term mission will successfully shift my attitude towards building in a more purposeful direction

That's exactely how I'm looking at the hub mission as well.

When I saw the huge numbers of resouces needed that people were talking about I actually thought “great, that’s what I want”. In previous X-Games I have built some pretty impressive complexes, but because cash forms an increasingly less important aspect for me as the game goes on (I quickly have more cash than I need) my heart really isn’t in building. This gives me a long term purpose to building and I won’t be using SETA to speed it up.

Despite some of my moans about the game I think there’s still a hell of a lot to commend it for which is why I still look forward to playing it when I get home.

This thread was a good read!

Mods valiantly endeavouring to defend the indefensible, customers putting forward valid complaints.

Mods directing the complainants to the dev forum (colloquially known as the "shut the **** up and leave us alone" forum)

Egosoft still not listening

Egosoft, I am your customer, without me and others like me there will be no X universe, just crazy AI ships crashing into each other.
We may stop buying your game. Think about this. Who would you have to torture with your notoriously bad programming?

Good luck with your dastardly deeds

It's good to be king. Wish I could say my piece and then lock the thread ;)

To the OP: one good thing about buying the game early is, you might get a few bugs, but at least you'll be reporting them when the bug fixing activity is at full tilt and everyone benefits from the input, whereas if it's something specific to your own computer, months later, Egosoft aren't going to be too worried about your plight. Address the issue now, and they might come up with a solution to your problem even if it doesn't end up on a patch.

Don't mean to antagonize anyone, and correct me if i'm wrong, but that is the job of the BETA-testers and Quality-Assurance people.

This kind of practise is rampant in the gaming-industry, which wasn't the case right until the early-to-mid 90's.

I just meant that, as well as those users not catching everything that might go wrong, customers might have a better chance of getting 'specific to their computer' problems sorted out ;)

Just in passing, I have an email notification of a PM from a mod early this morning, but nothing from them in my Inbox...
