- Load times for start menu and game are cut in half.
- Seta now disables right if you press a button on the keyboard where as before u would have to press it 5 times,
- All menus seem smoother
Havent tryed all the other stuff in the game but this is a good step in the right direction
P.S norton AVG sucks, it can detect them but dont remove viruses. Try zone alarm, it has a virus scanner and spyware scanner built in.
KarlHemmings wrote:nothing changed between 9:02 and 9:04. It has to be a timed task - every x hours do this... I suspect Norton but can not be sure.
Do yourself a favour and before running X3, disable your link to the internet, and then shut down Nortons. Nortons is more of a virus than any virus at times, and by itself reaks havok on the computer at the best of times. The last thing you need playing X3 is Nortons running in the background.
Do that every time along with closing down the non required services - good tip for those that do not.
I'm part of the X3 random freezing company since the beginning, and am very glad to report that this patch seems to fix the problem ! I won't say for sure before I have time to play more, but it really seems stable as of now. I have played like 5 hours mainly fighting pirates, while also playing with the settings of my Ore belt complex. Great work Ego-dudes ! This should allow me to easily fail my exams . Anyway, just two things : Was freezing just codec related or was there something in the code ? And pretty please, make the savegames compatible with the upcoming 1.3.1 release patch
I don't know if this is useful to you as the issue seems to be solved here, but here are my PC Specs : Pentium 740 (1.73 GHz), 1024 MB DDR2, i915, X700 mobility 128 MB (catalyst 6.1 based omega drivers)
You can't catch them using strength,
eels are like women, if you hold them down forcibly, they'll just run away
yeebok wrote:Ah, Norton's .. The most invasive virus like anti virus program on the market. About as much fun as an unwanted rootkit !
Upgrade to something free like AVG which is much less intrusive .. and works better too
The best antivirus/firewall I've found so far is Kaspersky. Since intalling it over a year ago, I've had no problems at all.
Nortons before that, something would blow through the firewall as if it wasnt there every few months and I've have to reinstall. Eventually I had reinstalled Nortons so many times it refused to register again (not my fault) and so I went else where and havent had a problem since.
Nortons cannot be successfully uninstalled. Once its corrupted, you basically need a new harddrive. Trying to edit out all the Nortons stuff in the registry is an endless frustrating task I dont recommend.
Since I've got my 1gig upgrade, I can even run X3 with the net and firewall/antivirus going, they are that unintrusive, but when starting a long session in X, I shut them down first.
Not thread jacking, just adding some info.
For anyone having tech difficulties with X3 and is running X3 with Nortons or the like running in the background, half your trouble is probably there.
The main problem I see with the beta is my ships now have problems docking with auto-pilot. Especially when trying to dock with my Complex Hubs.
The only way I can dock at my Hubs without crashing in to them is to manually fly around to the side facing the docking bays before I activate the autopilot-dock command. Other ships trying to dock at my complexes seem to be crashing into my stations quite a bit more often as well.
Haven't seen the problem with anything except docking at my complex hubs. If I'm approaching from the wrong direction my ship seems to home right in on the connection tube and tries to turn at the last second, but too late to avoid crashing into it.
1.3.1 has fixed the problem with immobile ka'aak clusters as well as PSG and mass driver slow downs but suddenly i've noticed that all of the sectors are flloded by hundreds of civilian ships where there were few before. Its not a problem however it just means there must be more killing.
Going to war over religon is like having an argument over who has the best imaginary friend!!!
I sat here a little while ago, docked at my complex hub.
Next to me on one side was a Dolphin Superfreighter, on the other side was a Toucan.
I gave a move order to the Dolphin and watched as it sped straight into the station dock, executed a strangled turn against the dock, the Toucan and my M6, then rush away. This is a standard Dolphin with standard speed upgrade, and the collision cost it about 20mj of shield.
Next, I gave the Toucan an order to go the other way, and it too, drove straight forward into the dock, scraped around via my M6 and then flew off with about 20mj of shield damage.
Now, as it happens, 50% of the time I undock, my ship immediately goes to full ahead, and only emergency joystick action saves me from blowing up on the station.
Same problem !!!!
I'd say a good percentage of the destroyed ships were actually destroyed as they were LEAVING the station, not as they docked as we all thought.
installed the patch last night and played for about 4 hours (realtime)
i noticed the following
the UT "no jumpdrive fuel in range" bug seems to be fixed! (YAY!)
the PSG lag problem seems to be fixed,
i have however noticed a very slight drop in overall performance. slightly worse framerates in some sectors (although nothing i cant live with, or rectify by turning "glow" off, but it looks so damn nice with it on!) and some mild stop-starts of about half a second, again i can live with it!!
got invloved ith a small Xenon force too that jumped into the system just as i was entering the sector, had a small fight with them and there was no slowdown! (although i died quite horribly when i ran out of missiles!!!)
if the devs can sort out the lag problem, that people are experiencing in some sectors (ore belt, argon prime etc) I think they could be on to a real winner of a patch!
I've been running this for a few days and no freezes. I have had a couple of CTD's but that's all.
A couple of minor things, the sound level on cut scenes is disproportionately low compared to voice and music. I went into the last cut scene and couldn't hear a word of any of it as the music drowned it out completely.
Ore Belt still very low frame rates, particularly when doing combat in that sector.
Other minors; when meeting up with Saya in Emperor's Mines the ship I'm piloting is completely out of my control as soon as I enter the sector. Which locked the speed at 13 mps. Not very convenient when the TS that jumped in behind me ended up ramming my ship twice and then going hostile just for the sake of a few seconds of banter between Saya and Julien. Needless to say the music that tells you you're under attack kicked in and I couldn't hear the briefing when it came up.
Request: During Xenon Invasion missions, I sort of resent that the 'helping ship' is invincible. M2's tend to really drop the frame rates down with the amount of firepower they put out. Okay make them tough, even have them jump out of sector to give their shields a chance to recover if they're taking a pounding, but give the Xenon some chance of destroying them.
Strange how X2 and X3 taxes my system that badly, while Far Cry, Doom 3, ect, doesnt. I remember when we used to be able to run 286's off a single lump of coal. Regardless, I just ordered a Hercules 450 watt PS, and will be installing it sometime next week. Thanks for everyone who gave their thoughtful input. I hope it helps others. Tootles!
450 watt PS installed, no voltage issues detected. Uninstalled X3, clean Install of X3 1.0 -> 1.3 -> 1.3.1. No codec issues detected. Game boots fine, however, under 1.3.1, my first save is about 700 MB. Can someone give me a heads up if they see the same thing with 1.3.1 and their save file sizes?
If Im not the only one (I didnt turn on script logging, or installed any 3rd party scripts), can CBJ or someone from EGOSOFT confirm this is a feature of the BETA patch to help devoplers debug a save file?
Otherwise I'll start seeing if the CTD's and resets occur with the more powerful 450 watt PS. Hope this helps others with the same issue ...
I've been using the beta patch for 7 days (approx. 4-8 hours game time each day).
I don't experience freezes only ctd's, though I can usually just restart the game since I rarely experience reboots. I also don't experience slowdowns due to any type of weapons fire even before the beta. Essentially, the only grief I have with this game are random ctd's.
My ctd's consists of :
1) passing though jumpgates (frequent with 1.3 - sometimes with beta)
2) loading game for the first time (always with 1.3 - sometimes with beta)
3) loading game after ctd (frequent with 1.3 and beta)
4) just flying around (rare with 1.3 and beta)
5) combat (never with 1.3 - sometimes with beta - seems like just before the ship explodes)
I've been reading this forum for quite a while - especially with threads that deal with freezes and crashes. I've tried almost all the suggestions listed (only the ones that involve installing 3rd party drivers I've not done).
Irregardless of the type of crash, I have noticed a common cause/effect of the crash. I will always see some type of graphic corruption after a crash. The corruption is either in the current sector or in the sector I'm trying to enter - as often seen in jumpgate crashes. The 2 most prevalent graphic corruptions are :
1) a triangular wedge extending from a station out to the horizon
2) missing station but docking port intact
The corruption does not affect the use/docking of the station and it seems to only manifest itself with one station not multiple stations. The probability of additional ctd's increases while in a sector where the corruption is active. The corruption is not permanent. After some time out of the sector (and later returning) the problem is gone though it will eventually migrate to a different sector. Re-loading a game where the corruption exists does not fix it. Even exiting the game and re-loading does nothing but going through a cold boot will remove the corruption. Though the cold boot does nothing to reduce the ctd's.
I don't usually do a cold boot after the corruption since I can still play (until the next ctd) by leaving a bad sector and stay in clean sectors.
The odd thing regarding the patch was that the first 3 days after the patch, the game ran smoothly. After that, the frequency of crashes started to increase. Now the crashes are creeping to pre-beta levels. This pattern is similar to the experience I had when I purchased the game and installed the 1.2 patch - played fine for several days then ctd's started happening.
I've disabled page filing to check if the problem was due to virtual memory corruption - it's not. I've replaced my memory sticks - did nothing. PSU and heating not an issue. Could be bad graphics memory but since other 3D games don't experience this it is unlikely. As a mentioned earlier, codec, driver, background apps, bios, etc. have been tested/updated/disabled/changed/tried/etc.
My system : Windows XP SP2 (fully updated)
P4 3.0 (nothing overclocked)
ASUS P4C800 mainboard (latest beta bios - can't remember version - started with latest non-beta but hoped beta could reduce ctd's - didn't)
1.5 G Corsair RAM (2x512 2-3-3-6 & 2x256 2-2-2-5)
6800GT Leadtek
2x40GB ATA-133 Maxtor hd (raid-0)

465W Enermax PS
Gaming Stats : 1280x1024
textures = high

AA = x2
AF = none
AG = on Glow = off
difficulty = X-treme (finished plot)
mod = lessroids (ctd's existed before using mod and predate game ver 1.3)
Still crash to windows when I try to load 1.3 savegame after instaling 1.3.1 beta.
Today I tried this on secon computer (checked that savegame isn't read-only after transfer) and the same.
I cannot install 1.3.1 and continue with 1.3 savegame.
Sempron 3000+, 1Gb Ram, GF6600GT 128, Asus K8NE-Deluxe, Windows XP SP2 HE (polish version), Nvidia drivers v.81.98.
Clean X3, without any scripts/mod/cheats
It still pauses 3-4 seconds each time before I fire a PSG, so in my case; no change I guess with new patch.

Without wishing to seem rude, could you please check that you have actually installed the 1.3.1BETA patch correctly. It should say the correct version in the top right corner of the first screen you see.
Just thought i should mension that i have experienced very brief pauses of half a second after patch 1.3.1 , nothing i couldn't live with but mension it anyway. They seem to happen when a passed by other ships while just flying arround, but not shure thats the cause...
Hi there EGOSOFT.
Your newest patch (1.3.1b) seems to have solved my freezing problems.
However, given that i have at least the recommended specs found at the back cover of the dvd case, even at the lowest graphic details and having the graphics card with antialiasing and blah-blah features off and set for the best performance, the game runs at rediculously low framerates, even at the starting screen of the game (mouse moves with a delay/hysterisis).
My system details:
Athlon 3100+
2x512MB dual RAM CL2.0
6600GT 256MB
Here is a small list of some more bugs that i have noticed in my games:
Nova turrets dont work.
Computer freighters do not buy from my factories.
My HUB (Solar plant+Crystal factory) does not produce either crystals or cells although it is full of the needed resources. Also, in such kind of HUBs dont offer the option of setting a selling price for intermediate products.
Regards.
