In case you didn't realize this (and it's fairly obvious), those who don't register the game are assumed to be pirates.
Your principle of not registering a game here is not going to work, because it's pretty much mandatory.
No, those who don't register their games are not assumed to be pirates and it is not mandatory. The site features that are available to registered users has varied from time to time, but currently patches are available to everyone. Currently only the X³ Tech Support forum and Scripts and Modding forums are for registered users only.
Registration is optional, but great lengths have been gone to to ensure that there is no reason not to do it. The registration code does not provide any personal information, and just allows moderators providing Tech Support to see which version of the game you have. However, the choice is with the user, and any insinuation that someone who has not registered is automatically a pirate is not acceptable.
I have to agree with InfectiousDust. Its about principle.. The gaming industry is gearing towards Console games and less so to PC's. Plus pressure from investers, company deadlines etc. I can remember buying a game and never having a patch. These days its almost impossible to use software without a patch.
The way I look at it if someone invests $1 or 1million dollars in a product it should at least work properly. Now should a $1 dollar product have the same quality? In prinicple yes in the real world no.
Anyhow its cheaper for them to use buyers to find there bugs rather using beta testers to do there job with a ample given time to finish the product.
So I give two ! X2 was so much more stable as a finish product..

Thank you for clarifying that CBJ, and you have my appreciation. It's a concept that not everyone understands. The problem with these forums is that people who haven't registered do not have a post count, so that makes them easily identifiable and a target for flame bait.
Thanks for the words Wolfehunter, I think we both share the same sentiments here. I still have hope for X3 though, it's in this new patch!

Thank you EGOSOFT i need this patch before i updrade my motherboard & video card i am loyal & devoted
the reason you used to be able to buy software and not need a patch is because it was alot simpler wheather its was a game or a OS.
the complex nature of todays hardware & software and there interactions is why not all problems can be found before release if you were to delay untill you had found all the problems the beta testing would take a year or more on its own.
way to long for us gamers & the money men and i will admit the deadlines EGOSOFT had to meet did not help but thats the world we live in and i will say THANK YOU to EGOSOFT because they tried there best, they made mistakes yes but im sure they have learned from them just be patient
Why didn't you just release this game in december instead of end october.
Because if they would have had a December release date, that would mean that the game would go on sale in March with an April distribution date and a May arrival date. This way you get the privilege to buy an early beta in September, beg for patches to make it work in October and finally get the finished product sometime in December.
was there any mention about the "freeze bug" that prevents a significant amount of people from playing at all? or did i miss it.......
all these shiny fixes are fine and dandy, .... but will we be able to play with the new patch? or will it still lock up our computers all the time like the last Patch did.... ?

I've actually given up on the game for now. Rather than piss about playing something that is incomplete I've put it on the shelf and will reinstall sometime in the future when bugs AND content are fixed. Don't get me wrong, I fully expect X3 to be one of the best games ever, it's just that it's far from that now. Besides, Civ IV and Quake 4 have arrived and my time is limited
and Call of Duty 2... which runs perfectly out of the box, and even has support for DirectX 7. Who'da believed!
Thanks Abyss for this pathetic attempt at keeping the community abreast of the situation. We've been asking you for this sort of news for a VERY long time now, as you well know. . . and the reason you gave for not delivering this information was that 'you didn't want to commit to a date.'
Well.. funny that, seeing as yet again.. no date.. just a rough time frame. Which is totally fine by me, BUT, why didn't you just do it last month instead of waiting till now?
I don't expect an answer, as I've found, responses from you folk only escalate this debacle.
Penfold153 It wasn't easyer before.. It was simpler true. Hardware and software was more so less 100% compatible then than today.
If it takes a year for beta testers or programmers to root out the problems, fine do it. We buy this game for entertainment and not to fix it.
I hate console games. If you look at a console games today? Did anybody have to patch a game? You don't have to answer it. I'm sure Egosoft and friends have more valid reasons for not truely finishing this game. I still believe that X3 will improve. But a finish product is a finished product and X3 isn't it!
If thats the way this world works? Do you buy a 3/4 burger or a whole hamburger for the same price?
Don't worry Egosoft I'm also a devoted fan of X series. I will appreciate your 1.3 patch christmas gift!
